Vetradent products may help clean your pet’s teeth but at what cost?
Here is a list of the ingredients and known side effects:
Sodium citrate: at high doses can cause diarrhea, bloating, abdominal cramps, nausea and laxative effects
Citric acid: Synthetic citric acid is made from Aspergillus mold and may trigger issues in people sensitive to molds. Some potential side effects include: mouth and throat irritation, gastrointestinal upset, stomach pain and diarrhea, and rarely can cause allergic type reactions. Excessive consumption can cause tooth enamel erosion!!
Disodium EDTA: used a preservative but is also a metal chelator. If used in high doses or chronic low exposure, it can cause low calcium, muscle cramps and damage to the kidneys.
Potassium benzoate: preservative. Can convert to benzene (a carcinogenic substance) in high heat or acidic environments (like your pet’s gastrointestinal tract). Can cause nausea and irritation of the GI tract.
Zinc Chloride: an industrial chemical and dietary supplement at “appropriate doses”. In high concentrations or chronic low exposure, it can cause damage to the mouth, esophagus and stomach, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
