Olive Rose has had a successful spay and will be coming home to rest this afternoon.

I have been struggling with this decision for a year. However, I have made the vet appointment and I am moving forward with spaying Olive Rose.

I had such high hopes for her, and she is absolutely gorgeous, her temperment is beautiful, I love everything about this girl, but I cannot breed her if she does not hunt well, or consistently. There are way too many puppies as it is, and the Llewellin breed has been so saturated with bad breeding practices I refuse to be a part of.

I will not breed if it is not for the betterment of the breed. At this time, we are not planning on obtaining another prospective pup because our personal lives are a bit busy to plan trials and breeding. This may be in the future, nut for now it is not what we will be aiming for.

I am planning on fostering setters the next couple years from organizations that really could use the help.

12 years ago, a military family moved and decided to ditch this beautiful husky/Shephard mix. 12 years ago, I went to the shelter with my extremely dog selective coydog, Sunka. I was hoping to bring hope a lab I saw, but this Shepski was the only dog in the entire shelter that Sunka didn't hate, so he came home with us.

We named him Loki. Loki's birthday was 11/22. He was the perfect gentleman. He loved everyone so much, for 12 years. Loki was my rock when I was going through some of the worst battles of my life. He was my best friend every time Kurt deployed or went on a training exercise.

Loki was loved by all of our children. All of our family pets. Loli was genuinely loved by anyone who met him.

While I have my girls, and they are so so special for their own reasons, Loki was my familiar. He leaves behind some huge shoes to fill even though he passed the torch to Cookie a couple years ago.

He was never just a dog. He was my personal angel that played the largest role in healing me when I honestly didn't think I was going to pull through with my PTSD. No other living thing did what this beautiful soul did, he just loved me, truly unconditionally. He let me cry, be angry at the world, Grab his leash at 2 am just to go running because night terrors woke me. I wouldn't BE where I am if it wasn't for Loki.

Run well Loki, may you play with Pandora, Sunka, and our family across that rainbow bridge. Make sure they know you are still the ultimate boss dog.

The girls and their snow dog friends were all sprayed by the concealed carry stripped kitty last week.

The setters have learned their lesson.

The snow dog took and addition 3 times of being sprayed in the face, and I'm not entirely sure she has learned.

If you were wondering what the girls have been up to:

I had to undergo a surgery and the recovery has been a bit rough. The setters have been spending time snuggling myself and the kids, and when weather allows running through our property to their hearts content. Cookie and her human sister are currently 7 movies into their Halloween movie fest.

Olive Rose made a break through and started pointing! There may be hope yet. She also just had her first heat cycle at 2 years old.

We have a 17 yr old Husky/Shephard mix named Loki.

Loki has been with our family since my husband was stationed in Fort Hood, TX(now renamed Fort Cavosos). Loki was a military PCS dump dog. Meaning, the family moved an decided to dump him instead of finding him a home or taking him with them when they moved. We have had Loki 12 years. He has been through everything with us. Birth of children, Military moves, retirement move, death of family, difficult times. The best of times. We are currently monitoring him every week to determine if his bad days outweigh the good or are frequent enough to negatively affect his quality of life. It is heartbreaking because he means so much to me.

When you get a dog, it is for life. The theme the past couple years amongst our dog advocacy groups is other people thinking dogs are disposable. We have had a run of what we call "covid dogs" because people got all these dogs during covid but did not bother to put any work into these dogs. Now they are crated all day. Have separation anxiety. And eventually get dumped off to whoever can take them, or found on the side of a country road lost and confused.

We have got to do better. The shelters are the worst we have ever seen. Fosters are exploding. Many dogs are without basic veterinary care, no Vaccines and people are not spaying/neutering as they should. Back yard breeders are still pumping out puppies with no health testing and tons of genetic issues.

Are puppies cute? Absolutely, but you can also find the best dogs through a rescue or shelter too.

No fluffy toy is safe.
Nothing is safe in the eyes of the surgeon.

Human needs some time to get these girls out working. However, we have tiny humans heavily involved in winter sports that require all of the adult human free time.
