Video is just 1 minute of what walks look like with my dog. I believe everyone can learn and teach their dog how to walk like this❣️
When I go on a walk with a dog it is important to me that:
⭐️ I am not getting pulled everywhere
⭐️ We are walking TOGETHER
⭐️ My dog is HAPPY to be by my side
⭐️ If my dog gets spooked by something, she can work through it and look to me for support
⭐️ If we get rushed by other dogs, I know how to deal with it and keep my dog safe
⭐️ My dog can stop barking when I ask her to
⭐️ My dog knows a ‘sit’ command for when cars come by
⭐️ I don’t have to use high value treats

Not all dogs are made equal.. This felt like a real treat!🥰 this sweet girl is named Izzy and is available for adoption at Weber County Animal Services - check the comments for updates on her adoption status🫶. #husky #shelterdogs #huskyplayingfetch
Here they are👇
🎾PLAY - whatever that looks like for you & your dog
Some dogs don’t like traditional fetch or tug, and that’s okay! There are no rules except the ones you come up with😉 find any way to have fun with you dog🥰
💖Learn who they TRULY are -not who you wish they’d be
Watch your dog while they experience things. Try not to interfere too much. What is your dog like? Shy? Curious? Confident? Learn about who your dog is outside of what you hope they will be.
⭐️Give them opportunities to express natural behaviors - think of the things dogs like!
- chewing
- sniffing
- digging
- running
- itching their back on the grass
🌱Spend time in nature - it might not be realistic to do this every day for some people, especially if you live in a city. But even if it is only once a week or month, try to go somewhere you can enjoy nature together.
❗️Learn how to use & teach MARKERS for clearer communication - having a way of telling your dog when they are doing good and when they are not, can be life changing. This will help you AND your dog be less frustrated and will help you clearly tell them what you want.
QUALITY > QUANTITY 💞
Make sure to spend some time fully engaging with your dog at least once a day. Even if it’s as little as 15 minutes total in a day.
Giving your dog undivided attention is extremely valuable to our canine companions. The more we do things that involve our complete attention, the stronger the bond will grow between you and your dog.

My house may be messy with cardboard shreds everywhere.. but at least these guys are happy, healthy, and can cohabitate in peace 🥰

As someone with a not-super-toy-motivated-dog: it’s still possible to find ways to play with your dog!
Start small and build from there!
If your dog likes food, maybe try throwing pieces of food for them to chase so you can start building towards chasing toys😉
Absolute worst case scenario: just go outside and hang out with your dog in the sunshine☀️

DISCLAIMER: We are winging it 😅😂
I have been wanting to use more toy rewards with this pup for a long time, but her lack of motivation -and my lack of skill let’s be honest- really made it hard to push through the struggles.
I decided to say F it and play with HOW I play until I find something that works for this dog😂
I know she has always loved a good Flirt-Pole, so I got the idea to tie a string to this tug toy, and using it to mimic chasing prey👀
I’ve been playing with Mochi without asking any commands for several sessions, and just recently started sprinkling in commands that I know she enjoys.
Sometimes there is slight hesitation, but that is perfect for us to work through and build an even stronger bond❣️
I had my phone up against a tree here, and asked her to go around before releasing her to the toy, and I am so happy with the enthusiasm she has when going to the tree, but especially coming back to the toy🥹
I can’t wait to see where this takes us😍
