Cat Action Trust 1977 Nuneaton & Hinckley We are a registered charity dedicated to the health and welfare of feral and stray cats. The charity is totally against killing for expediency.

CAT 1977’s policy is to help feral cats by limiting their numbers through neutering and returning to site, by providing veterinary care where necessary, and by finding homes for kittens and tame stray cats. CAT 1977 also helps to educate the public and other animal welfare organisations about the humane control and care of the feral cat population through its website, newsletter and leaflets. Fera

l cats are the descendants of lost or abandoned domestic (“tame”) cats. Because they have not been handled by humans as kittens, they grow up as if they are wild animals and are wary of humans. They are therefore invariably extremely difficult to handle, and specialised equipment is needed to trap and restrain them without injury to the cat, the trapper, or the vet. Cats are extremely efficient reproducers. Large groups of feral cats (colonies) very soon build up and are found in numerous environments, such as parks, hospital grounds, factory premises and the gardens of private houses. Uncared for and allowed to breed unchecked, the life of a feral cat is short, miserable and full of suffering. However, once neutered, and if there is some shelter and a reliable food source available, feral cats can live long and healthy lives.

FEBRUARY IS SPAY / NEUTER AWARENESS MONTH

To neuter or spay your cat is one of the kindest, most important things you can do for your cat's health and welfare - and for the future cat population. Neutering is a win-win all round, and need not be expensive either - see link below for low-cost neutering options.

The 4 younger cats rescued yesterday have all had a very settled night 😻

They’ve eaten well and are toasty warm in their clean, dry and heated pen.

They’re incredibly nervous and timid but have shown no signs of aggression and haven’t hissed once! 😻

Today, Carol and Alisha were finally able to go and trap part of a small colony. They were living on a small holding in abhorrent conditions, in Leicestershire 😿
We were initially asked to help last year, but the landowner was extremely reluctant to let us on the land to help. This meant that the colony has since grown.

Two of the cats are incredibly timid, but friendly. However, four of the young cats had been kept in an enclosure, which can only be described as a chicken run at best. The poor cats were sitting/living in their own faeces and urine 🙀😿

It was incredibly tricky in a tight and filthy space to catch the cats.

Carol and Alisha will be going back to site once we have room to trap the rest of the colony.
Updates and further photos to follow 😻

‼️IS THIS YOUR CAT?‼️

This cat has been found on the Three Pots Estate in Burbage.
He is covered in fleas and ticks, and is very dirty.
We will be keeping him in our care due to him being quite weak, and it being sub zero temperatures. He is neutered, but not microchipped.

Please contact the page if you know anything about this boy.

Over the festive period, one of our volunteers found this little one abandoned in a box whilst on a walk. How can people be so cruel?!

She has been named Holly, is healthy and safely in foster care. Holly is a very lucky girl, she is reserved for when she is old enough to be adopted 😻

Happy New Year to all our wonderful followers and supporters! 💕

2024 has been a busy year once again for us.

We’ve had a huge number of cats/kittens in our care who we have rehomed, whether that be to farms or to family homes. We’ve also helped, and continue to support, across several feral colonies throughout the year 🐱

We’ve suffered a few very sad losses as well,
which is the worst part of rescuing 🌈🕊️

We’ve had many generous donations from people fundraising for us, doing carboots, or simply donating cat food, so we can keep doing what we do best. THANKYOU, to each and every single one of you who donates, shares our posts or even just engages; we are so very grateful for your ongoing support ❣️

A massive thankyou to the team at PAWS Veterinary Health Centre, who at the drop of a hat will help us with whatever we need. Whether that be neuters/spays or emergency appointments for very sick cats. They’ve done a number of specialist surgeries for us throughout the year, and we truly can’t thank them enough!

Last, but by no means least, thankyou to each and every one of our volunteers.
Whether you help by picking up donations, fundraising, fostering, vet runs… We truly appreciate your dedication and absolutely could not do this without you 💜

🥳🐱 Here’s to 2025! 🥳🐱

A massive thankyou to our friends at Community Pet Food Bank, who dropped some presents off for the foster cats this evening! They’ve done a very successful shoe box appeal, and kindly chosen us to donate some of the cat ones too.
Thankyou again, the kitties are very grateful! 😻💜
