Cat Action Trust 1977 Nuneaton & Hinckley We are a registered charity dedicated to the health and welfare of feral and stray cats. The charity is totally against killing for expediency.

CAT 1977’s policy is to help feral cats by limiting their numbers through neutering and returning to site, by providing veterinary care where necessary, and by finding homes for kittens and tame stray cats. CAT 1977 also helps to educate the public and other animal welfare organisations about the humane control and care of the feral cat population through its website, newsletter and leaflets. Fera

l cats are the descendants of lost or abandoned domestic (“tame”) cats. Because they have not been handled by humans as kittens, they grow up as if they are wild animals and are wary of humans. They are therefore invariably extremely difficult to handle, and specialised equipment is needed to trap and restrain them without injury to the cat, the trapper, or the vet. Cats are extremely efficient reproducers. Large groups of feral cats (colonies) very soon build up and are found in numerous environments, such as parks, hospital grounds, factory premises and the gardens of private houses. Uncared for and allowed to breed unchecked, the life of a feral cat is short, miserable and full of suffering. However, once neutered, and if there is some shelter and a reliable food source available, feral cats can live long and healthy lives.

An update on the little kitten with the horrific leg injury.

The vet has said that sadly the leg will definitely need to be amputated 😔 At the moment he is still much too small and the leg is still very infected, so for the time being his antibiotics have been increased and he remains on pain relief.

Despite all of this he is a very happy little kitten, and although he tires quickly he loves to play with his siblings 😻 He has gained a little weight too so we’re happy with his progress.

Thankyou to everyone who has donated towards the cost of his surgery so far, we are extremely grateful for your kindness and generosity ♥️

Please donate if you can, even 50p will help 🙏🏻

We make no apologies for our anger in this post, this is so far removed from acceptable that even we, having seen the worst cruelty and abandonment cases, are finding this hard 😭

Two days ago one of our members was contacted about a mum and babies that had clearly been abandoned and left to fend for themselves. This is itself is a common occurrence that we are all very accustomed to 😭

Our volunteer wasted no time in going out to help, and brought the family safely into foster care. Thank God she acted so quickly as one of the kittens has a potentially life threatening infection/injury 😱

We don’t know at this point what caused this injury, our vets were also puzzled. He is currently receiving antibiotics and pain relief in our care in preparation for amputation of the leg.

‼️Photos will be in comments, please do NOT look if you’re squeamish ‼️

This tiny kitten didn’t ask to be born, didn’t ask or deserve to be cast aside so cruelly 😭 His mum and siblings are also safely in our care and so far appear healthy and well, no thanks to whoever dumped them 😭

We will be organising a fundraiser to help with vet bills in the next few days, assuming he survives that long 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Meet Smokey 😻

Smokey is a semi feral sweet girl. She is part of one of the large colonies we are currently working on. She will be going in for neutering tomorrow morning. Foster carer Adrian has already worked miracles, and now can brush Smokey twice a day 😍 She looks so much better than a couple of weeks ago, no more matts and tangles 💜

💜 Introducing… Bobby! 💜

So many of you wanted to name him Bob, but he’s so tiny, we think Bobby is better 😻
He is settling in well.
We will be updating our Wishlist soon to include weaning mousse, as he seems a little bit behind with his weaning!

NB: Please note the lillies in the background are silk, not real!

💜 Bobby (Bob) was the most liked and suggested name! So Bobby it is (he’s too cute to be a Bob 😹) 💜

We’ve just collected this little boy from the vets, after he was left there. He was found on a building site 😿
Around 7-8 weeks old. He’s timid, but seems happy to be safe and warm!
One of our foster carers has kindly got him in a cosy fabric pen in her living room.

We need a name for him! The most liked comment will be his new name 😻💜

Today is a very special day for our lead volunteers Carol & Alisha 😻

5 years ago today they took in these beautiful feral kittens, who they later named Winnie and Rupert. They then chose to formally adopt them, as they had fallen in love! This ignited a passion in Carol and Alisha, and they found their calling. In the last 5 years they’ve fostered over 250 cats between them. So many lives saved 😻 The rest is history!

Happy Birthday Winnie & Rupert ❤️

Today, on , let’s remember that the only difference between the cat in your home and the cat in your driveway is the walls of your home. Those physical walls shouldn’t preclude outdoor cats from receiving your love; we may just have to show that love and support in different ways. Outdoor cats deserve care and compassion too - let’s continue to find ways to support them in our communities.❣️

‼️IMPORTANT NOTICE - PLEASE READ‼️

We are currently working across 2 substantial feral cat colonies that desperately need our help. We simply can NOT take in any more cats and kittens besides these at this time 😔

Thankfully we are able to TNR one of the colonies, but the larger of the two need us to house, neuter and subsequently rehome the cats and kittens that are there. These 3 were caught this week and will be neutered asap, then hopefully we can find them safe placements 🙏🏻 We also have other feral cats in our care looking for their own safe spaces.

Please remember that we are a very small branch of the charity with only a handful of active volunteers. We all have full time jobs and foster in our own homes. It is very upsetting for all of us when we have to say no 😢

Please be kind, we’re doing the best that we can.

Thankyou ❣️
