Cat Action Trust 1977 Nuneaton & Hinckley We are a registered charity dedicated to the health and welfare of feral and stray cats. The charity is totally against killing for expediency.

CAT 1977’s policy is to help feral cats by limiting their numbers through neutering and returning to site, by providing veterinary care where necessary, and by finding homes for kittens and tame stray cats. CAT 1977 also helps to educate the public and other animal welfare organisations about the humane control and care of the feral cat population through its website, newsletter and leaflets. Fera

l cats are the descendants of lost or abandoned domestic (“tame”) cats. Because they have not been handled by humans as kittens, they grow up as if they are wild animals and are wary of humans. They are therefore invariably extremely difficult to handle, and specialised equipment is needed to trap and restrain them without injury to the cat, the trapper, or the vet. Cats are extremely efficient reproducers. Large groups of feral cats (colonies) very soon build up and are found in numerous environments, such as parks, hospital grounds, factory premises and the gardens of private houses. Uncared for and allowed to breed unchecked, the life of a feral cat is short, miserable and full of suffering. However, once neutered, and if there is some shelter and a reliable food source available, feral cats can live long and healthy lives.

What a day! 😩

Poor Pumpkin (who is a forever foster due to health issues) was rushed to the vets this morning and ended up being admitted and having urgent surgery 😪

A week or so ago, Pumpkin caught his claw on the carpet. He quickly freed himself and seemed absolutely fine. A few days ago, Pumpkin’s foster family noticed he was limping intermittently. Last night they got home from work and there was medium sized amounts of blood dotted around the house.

They rushed Pumpkin to Paws Vets this morning, where he was quickly admitted and sedated. The vets have had to cut his claw all the way back to the base, and also cut the claw next to the poorly one. Pumpkin is now on rest, antibiotics and pain relief, and will be going back to the vets Saturday for a check up.

If you are able to and would like to donate to Pumpkin’s vet bill today, please message us for bank details. Or you can send to:

https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/cat77nh

Please send him your love and well wishes! 😽🧡

If you have borrowed any of our equipment, please could you message us as soon as possible to arrange to return. We only have limited equipment and are running very low.

Thankyou!

‼️Now home! 😻‼️

Please keep your eyes open for this beautiful cat. He answers to Leo. Escaped from his carrier on the way to the vets for a leg injury.

Last seen going into Triton Showers car park in Nuneaton. He is very timid and is likely hiding.

If you think you’ve seen Leo or have any information please message us 🙏

An update on Sweet Pea and her 4 beautiful kittens from our fabulous foster carer, Bernie 🥰

Mumma and kittens are doing very well. Sweet Pea has had a little hiccup and has been having trouble with her tummy. She started to refuse her food, both wet and dry, when the babies were a week old. She is very slender and needs the food to help produce enough milk for her kittens. I became concerned when this continued for several days so took her to see the Vet at Paws Veterinary Health Centre.

Very carefully, Sweet Pea and her one week old kitties were placed into a large cat carrier with all of their blankets to help minimise stress. The vet prescribed some tummy settling medication and some ideas for different food to try.

Once at home, I found a selection of donated tins of Applaws wet cat food along with tins of Gourmet tuna fillet with vegetables. Knowing that these are pure meat, Sweet Pea was given some to try. Success! What a relief, Sweet Pea began to eat again, although she was still fussing around her dry food. Her tummy began to settle two weeks after having her beautiful babies. This was such a relief, although unfortunately her tummy is still quite delicate and a decision has been made to give her the more expensive wet food and gastro dry food.

Moving the little family to and from the vets caused Sweet Pea some stress. She began to hide her kittens, meaning each little check in involved a game of hide and seek! Eventually Sweet Pea found her spot. She placed her kitties underneath a wooden futon frame, in between the wood slats! I decided to place all of the blankets and the cooling mat underneath the futon so that the kittens have some comfort and Sweet Pea can lie on the cooling mat whilst feeding her family, as you can see in the video.

Look how beautiful they are!! 😻😻😻😻

A visit to Carol and Alisha yesterday has done me a world of good, checking in with them is so helpful and reassuring - plus I got to have a look around their lovely new home and admire the amazing catio. They made sure to send me home with a boot full of special gastrointestinal dry food, a big bag full of cat tins PLUS a wonderful, much needed new cat tree ready for when the kittens begin running around with their foster sister and brother in a few weeks time.

Thank you to all the donations, Sweet Pea has benefitted from them and sends a little meow chirrup to all of CAT77 supporters. 😻

Here they are, the beautiful family rescued over the last 2 days 😻

We simply cannot understand WHY these beautiful cats were dumped and left to fend for themselves 😭

Mum is understandably quite wary after her ordeal, we can only imagine how frightened she must be. The kittens are playful, friendly, and definitely used to being handled. The two smaller kittens, although eating solid foods, are also still nursing.

This family were lucky, they were spotted and we were able to help them. So many others won’t be so fortunate. PLEASE don’t abandon your pets, there are other options.

Very special thanks to Paul Proctor and Nat from Community Pet Food Bank for helping us to monitor the traps 🤗♥️

How can people be so cruel? 😭

We were contacted early this morning about a mum and kittens dumped in a box in a car park in Hinckley. We headed straight over and assessed the situation and formulated a plan.

Two of the kittens, aged around 4/5 weeks, are now safe. Mum and a 3rd kitten are still evading us but we have traps on site which will be monitored around the clock until we catch them.

If you have any information on this little family please contact us urgently. We will NOT be revealing their location until they are all safe.

Around 10 days ago we were contacted by a concerned member of the public about two feral cats who were initially co-nursing three kittens.

The lady had been in contact with several rescues but none had space or time to help. Initially, we also had no space for them and were unable to help.
However after a lot of juggling, we were able to create pen space for them.

Two of our volunteers went and set traps, however the Mum cats were very wise to us and avoided our stinky sardines, preferring to sunbathe instead.
Thanks to the patience and dedication of the feeders, they were able to trap the Mum cats with our guidance, and they are now all safely within our care.

The Mum cats are slowly getting used to us, and are booked in to be neutered. The kittens are becoming very sociable, playful and will already allow us to handle them.

More updates to follow 😻

NB: The ginger & white kittens nose has been confirmed as a sunburn blister by the vet.
No adoption enquires for the kittens at this time please, they are only 5-6 weeks old 😻

The power of a microchip strikes again 💜

A short while ago we rescued a feral Mum and her 3 kittens from an industrial estate in Hinckley. We’ve gained her trust enough this evening for us to scan her. Lo and behold, she’s chipped!

We’ve just rang the owner, she’s been missing since September… From Coventry! She must have got into a van/lorry.

Delighted and very emotional owners are now on the way to take her home after 10 long months 🎉🤍

Before you agree to reserve/adopt any of our cats/kittens, particularly if they are feral, please think carefully.

It is not okay to back out at the last minute, or change your mind and then not contact us until after the agreed adoption time 😢

We want what is best for the cats/kittens in our care, and it’s very disheartening when they are let down.

Please remember we are all volunteers who do this around our jobs and families, we also go out of our way to accommodate your availability, simply because we love cats.

We respectfully ask that you take the time to think long and hard before you make false promises.

Several weeks ago we were contacted by a lady regarding a cat who had brought her two kittens into the garden. They were taken in by one one of our fabulous foster carers who named them Sweet Pea, Matilda and Bert 😻

The odd little family were given a thorough vet check, thankfully both Sweet Pea and Matilda were both well. The vet said that Bert couldn't possibly be Sweet Pea's kitten, as he was considerably younger than Matilda. Unfortunately little Bert was clearly struggling to feed from Sweet Pea so the vet advised to start bottle feeding him. After four weeks of love and care, poor little Bert gave up his fight and sadly passed away 🌈

A few days later the vet confirmed that Sweet Pea was definitely pregnant again, carrying at least a few big kitties and advised the fosterer to prepare for the imminent arrival of Sweet Pea's second litter. At this point, Matilda was 9 weeks old and ready for adoption; there was a lot of interest in this beautiful girl. On the 12th of July, she was adopted and taken to her new forever family who named her Perri. Perri has settled in beautifully, bringing a lot of kitten love, fun and play into the home.

Sweet Pea was now able to settle and prepare for her second litter. In the early hours of Saturday 20th of July, Sweet Pea went into labour. It was a long night for her, she was amazing and gave birth to five little tabby kittens. Sadly the fifth kitten didn't survive and has been buried next to little Bert by the roses in the fosterers garden.

Sweet Pea is a fantastic Mumma, she is so attentive, protective and loving. All four kittens are feeding well, keeping Sweet Pea very busy.

Thanks to the lady who notified the charity, Sweet Pea was able to have her second litter in a safe and loving home. Sweet Pea will be neutered in a few months time, she will never have to go through this again and all of her kittens will be neutered and adopted into wonderful homes ♥️

Last week we received a call to help a mum and babies living in an industrial unit in Hinckley.

The unit itself was difficult to access as we only had very limited time slots that allowed us to be on site.

On Friday morning our volunteers were given a 30 minute time slot to assess, plan and set traps. Thankfully we hit jackpot and managed to trap all 3 kittens quickly. Sadly mum cat hadn’t been seen for 48 hours, and because we never leave traps unattended we had to leave 😢

Yesterday, we had a call to say mum cat was back, so as soon as we were allowed access to the site early this morning we set the traps again. Mum appeared and was caught within 20 minutes 🙏🏻😻

Mum and her 3 babies are all doing very well. Mum is understandably very nervous and shy but we think given time, patience and a lot of love this beautiful family will be just fine ♥️

After an early start trapping this morning we have mum cat! 🥳❤️ Full story later, it’s time for work now 😃
