Anolis bartschi, commonly known as the Cuban cliff anole, is a fascinating species with easy care and intriguing behavior. They like to spend time on vertical surfaces, hence the name, and benefit greatly from a terrarium designed specifically to their liking (though not required for success in keeping or breeding). A mid size species, males getting 7-8 inches and females an inch or so less. A male pictured here, females have similar pattern but sport a “fish bone” 3 tiered back pattern while the males have those wider diminished saddles. In the enclosures with multiple females I have found they will create communal nest spots. Babies hatch out large and cartoonish, looking like their parents but with enormous bobble heads and goofy giant feet. One of the most subtly beautiful species in the anolis genus.
