That’s the right spot in double time. Clearly our micro minis’ socialization is going well!
It seems that every day, someone is complaining that they were scammed trying to buy a mini highland. Either they put down a deposit on a calf that doesn’t exist or wasn’t the seller’s calf to sell, or they received a calf that was a standard highland and is not a miniature.
Sadly, I see so many posts with incredulous claims about calf and cow sizes. It only takes a video or photo with a person or a tape measure and a discerning eye to verify such claims. If it seems to be too good to be true, verify it.
Better yet, buy from someone that you know produces the real thing.
Trouble is, the goal of too many buyers seems to be to buy something really cheap and then breed it and sell calves for a higher price than they were willing to pay for breeding stock.
If you plan to breed, do a service to this developing breed. Your first calves will be the foundation of your breeding program and will be the start of your reputation as a breeder. There really is no mini highland breed yet, so it is even more important that quality proven animals/lines are utilized as breeding stock. Sadly, the scammers are really hurting the chances of mini highlands ever becoming s real breed. But the buyers who purchase from scammers are equally responsible for all of the standard highland genetics making it into the mini highland genetics.
We’ve been breeding to create miniature sized highlands for 20 years. Our goal was to make our highlands the same size as our Dexters, which were already small for the Dexter breed. In the video is micro mini sized registered Dexter bull Lakeport Dylan and 87.5% Highland micro mini sized bull Lakeport Guinness. Since this video, we’ve made even greater progress downsizing both breeds.
