Sachi pupdate!
This morning, Sachi began declining again. With Quinlee so thin she wasn't producing enough milk and he was getting too weak to get enough milk, even through a bottle. We brought him to the vet first thing this morning. At this point, Quinlee was beginning to push him away and reject him.
He needed intervention fast if he was to make it. The vet determined he would need to be tube fed until he was strong enough to go back go a bottle 🍼. By then, Quinlee would be dried up. The vet techs suggested we bring in Lola, since she was still full of milk from her birthing the day before. We called her foster momma, and she rushed over for a trial.
When Lola arrived, we moved Sachi to her, and with a little coaxing she quickly accepted him. And Sachi latched on!
The switch was made! And now Lola was a surrogate momma, and Quinlee was free to rest and get her health back up.
Since this morning, Quinlee's appetite has improved and she is eating homemade food. She has settled in and is thankfully not having any emotional issues without her baby. She has used this as an opportunity to talk her foster momma into letting her nap in the bed with her ❤️
Lola and Sachi are figuring out the new arrangement. He is nursing better than ever, and with supplemental tube feedings, he has already gained some weight back! Lola snuggles him and helps keep him warm, but hasn't taken on the full momma role yet by cleaning him. We are hoping she continues to accept him more and more.
We are so thankful for our team of fosters and the veterinary team at Northwest Austin Vet Center for spending hours together this morning to help prevent Sachi from fading.
More updates to come!
