Today I rescued two females that are severely thin and weak. Hopefully they will pull through and can then be moved to our sorority then adopted out.

They need names! So leave some suggestions in the comments🙌🏼

What we are faced with😔

Siamese fighting fish, Betta Fish.. whatever you like to call them, are the most mistreated fish in the aquatic industry.

Commonly sold as being suitable to be kept in jars, plant pots & bowls without heated tanks, these fish are 8/10 times kept in the smallest tanks in Fish Stores/ Pet stores, sometimes even cups.

We can’t let this go on anymore!
These are lives. Living breathing animals.
Would you keep a puppy like this?
No, because you would face fines or possibly jail time!
But to most people these are “just fish”, so “why should they be treated with compassion?”

It’s ridiculous.
These fish are up there with one of the most intelligent fish you can keep, if you’ve ever owned one you will know this!

So next time you see a fish store or friend keeping their Betta’s in poor condition, educate them that this isn’t the humane way to keep an animal.

Betta fish require:

-Minimum 20lt tank
-A heater set between 25c -28c
-Quiet water, NOT a strong current
-Proper food- NOT flakes
-Suitable tank mates (google this)
- NEVER put two male bettas together, they WILL kill each other

We can’t let animals suffer anymore, no matter how small!
And just because they are alive, does not mean they’re thriving!

IMPORTANT 2022 UPDATE

We are now back up and running and eagerly searching for new adoptee's along with fish in need of rehoming.

Unfortunately we had to downsize earlier this year, resulting in the rescue coming to a closing point. We will now have limited space for male fighter fish - though our female capacity has stayed the same.

In order for the rescue to stay up and running we will rely heavily on active adopters and donations. If we do not have enough adopters we cannot help and take in more fish.

This year we aim to start SHIPPING as soon as the weather gets warmer. We will only be shipping within the UK.
Collection and drop off will still run within the North West, stretching further afield if we have multiple fish to deliver.

If you would like to be added to the adopters list and have first refusal when fish become available, please inbox us your name & location.

We can't wait to get back up and running! We have missed this so much!

Lucifer is a stunning male dumbo eared plakat.
We rescued him from a store that has insufficient tank space for him and he was fighting with other males.

He isn’t ready for a new home yet, but I thought I’d update everyone about him!✨

In April we rescued 2 male bettas.. Lucifer & Lil Hero.

Well they’re still here & are not ready for new homes just yet. They have really been the hardest we have had to rehabilitate.

Lil Hero was in the worst condition (video of him is on a post below this one). I have never known a fish, in particular a betta, to be so petrified of people & so skittish.

He has come on SO much, but it’s impossible to get photos of him as he has a melt down if you bring a camera near him!

Lucifer is a male Dumbo Plakat, and a stunning one! We will be posting pictures of both following this post💕

Scooter...
Our longest resident here at Forever After Betta Rescue.
We rescued him from awful conditions (photo in comments), he fortunate recovered to full health, but was never able to swim properly again. That doesn’t stop him though!
I have never met a fish with so much personality .. & love for food. Scooter basically jumps out of the water reaching for food as soon as he see’s you!
He can hover rather then swim & is 100% healthy and happy in all other ways.

It would make us extremely happy to see Scooter go to a forever home.
He would need slightly different conditions (ie a smaller tank with lower water & a betta hammock to rest on) which we will give you with him.
We have a tank available to go with him if the right person comes along.
If not, he will stay and live out his days with us💙
