Stenophylla lobivertex, Peruvian Dragon Mantis, Female, ooth, and babies. So I had decided to leave a couple ooths with the female, in order to let her guard and have a hatch with mom. It being their fourth ooth, their end of time is near, so wanted the last ooth in a more “ natural” way to hatch. These guys have been so fun and such a cool species. This time last year, only a select few had these, and now, I think we are set for a long time to come, providing everyone with the chance to get a dragon! That’s what it’s all about. Letting everyone get a chance at rare species 🖤🔥🐉

Metallyticus splendidus, or Iridescent Bark Mantis. Just a quick update post. Started with only a couple that hatched, and they have stayed strong, and a M/ F pair. So we still in the game, to breed these soon. I love the colors they have coming in, and his different angles cause new colors to show through.

Prohierodula ornatipennis, lovingly known to some and by my immaturity, as the blue Pennis mantis 😂 , bc of their slight blue/ turquoise color they give off. this one here is a fairly freshly molted female. They are aggressive hunters and already feeding on adult red runners. Hopefully they will be reaching maturity soon so we can try and get them bred! ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Panurgica fratercula, i4, these little guys have some really cool eyes, and weird little movements. When a dog started barking in the background, it took this, low to the leaf, 🦂 looking pose caught in one of the photos. Once the dog stopped. It resumed its inquisitive search along the plant. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Vates weyrauchi, ahhhh.. So about a year ago, I wanted this species to be a first project for a frienD and I. It never hatched, so then four more times, i tried, and would never get a hatch when I would try again. Ha ha. Anyways, I gave it one more shot, and it’s fitting it hatched now. Finally! Let’s talk about this living nightmare. Helvia cardinalis, or Yellow Orchid. So far, this is a fail, first male was eaten with the quickness, and then she displays at me always, all defiant. Thanks for the ladies) She is extremely well fed, yet wants that blood. Helvia are maneaters. And figured I’d show, to this point, an epic failure. Luckily, back in the saddle with a couple more helvia boys ( thanks ) and one is up to the task at the moment… this boy is getting tossed like a cowboy on the back of a Brahma bull. May the odds be ever in your favor, dude. To be continued…..

It’s our job as breeders, especially of more uncommon species, to spread the word, when something that was questioned, is proven wrong or right. With only a few of us working with Stenophylla lobivertex, the Peruvian Dragon Mantis, there’s been not much information about them. One of the questions that has come up, was the fertility of the females, and if they needed multiple breedings to produce multiple ooths. Here is the second ooth from one of my females, and if you look closely, a following hatch right behind it, from another female and her second ooth. These two females were bred one time, one connection, and was not introduced to a male again. Before i had to leave, this first ooth had 26 nymphs so far, so a very large hatch as well. Hopefully after working with these, and trying different things, and tweaking the diet, conditions, can keep answering certain things about an otherwise very unknown mantis in the US hobby. 🐉🔥🖤

Somehow, this idiot ( swipe right) male got it done. Here’s the finished product. Metilia are not a fun breeding. Males die a lot. This male made it out alive and then passed on to mantis heaven from old age. Thanks for the tips on how to get it handled! I’m excited! Gives males everywhere hope.
