So good to be back up and running (with obviously social distancing and PPE put in place 😊 )

Recently tagged in the the following post, so happy to help this beautiful boy xx

Susan’s super photo showing why Bobby had been lame for the last month or so.

Nice horse hoof print to his shoulder, he is a big boy so would have been done whilst he was lying down.

With big thanks to Philippa Darbyshire for Thereplate Sessions, Bobby now seems to be back to normal and ready to hack out.

Did you see any suspicious vehicles or activity in the area of Middleton Lane and Downey Field Road between 2-3am this morning? Do you have any CCTV in the immediate area that may assist us with our enquiries?

LAMINITIS

ITS DESTRUCTION OF THE LAMINAE

A very Brief look -

As we now understand laminitis is not a foot disease, it is a WHOLE HORSE INFLAMMATORY DISEASE.

Laminitis in the hoof is a symptom of a much bigger health picture that is going on inside the horse.

The problem starts from within the lower intestine and can be set off for a number of reasons.
Many common factors include high fructan , sugar, carb levels grain overload, medication, vaccines, any substance that’s not natural for a horse.
Of course there are other factors that can include injuries, retained placenta trauma and emotional stress or physical demands .

But commonly an overload of substances of an unnatural kind are the biggest factor.

BACTERIAs SHOULD LIVE TOGETHER IN HARMONY,
THIS IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE HORSES DIGESTIVE SYSTEM.

There are good and bad bacterias that normally live in harmony together but when these overload of substances are digested or absorbed they can create a damaging impact on the digestive system causing the healthy bacteria to die and the harmful bacteria to aggressively proliferate overpowering the beneficial good bacteria that is essential for a healthy digestive system.

When overloading the small intestine with high levels of fructan in say pasture/ hays , grains , ete , this cannot be adequately digested and ends up in the hind gut where the bacterias that live there will ferment into an acidic and toxic mix , eroding the gastric and intestinal mucosa that is responsible for the vital digestive and nutrient absorption.

From here the bad bacteria is absorbed into the blood stream where they overwhelm the body’s natural immune system and cause a cascade of events and many health issues that can wreak havoc through out the body .

This then causes tissues and cells within the hoof being starved of vital nutrients causing the breakdown and destruction within the hoof capsule.
Circulation then becomes impaired and virtually becomes non functioning and stops .
This is what damages the laminae .

The laminae inside the hoof is made up of leave like structures that knit and interlock together they form a vital part of bridging the connective tissues between the inner hoof wall and the outer face of the bone low in the horses hoof called the coffin bone or pedal p3 .
The fibrous tissues of the dermal leaf contains blood and nerves and is attached to the lower face of the coffin bone .
The other side interlocking with the epidermal leaves that are also fibrous but do not contain blood or nerves.
These two sets of leaves are connected and bridged together this is called Lamellar attachment mechanism.( LAM)
When all is fully functioning and healthy this allows the hoof wall to grow down past the coffin bone in a healthy development .
If all is not fully functioning then this LAM can result in destruction breakdown pulling apart the sensitive laminae from the coffin bone resulting in possible rotation.

When laminitis strikes A Very painful Inflammation is endured .
Digestive health is so very important to a healthy system.

*** Finalist 3 ***
I’m Jade and these are my 3 lovely boys. Carrhouse Get Smart, 5 year old large hack. Rookery Randall, lead rein/fr M&M. Caeisarbahn Star, 4 year old Connemara.
We compete regularly throughout the year, with focus at the minute on the baby hack, getting him out seeing everything in hand, and progressing to the novice ridden towards the end of year.
Randall and Tyler are also showing throughout the year at some of the county shows.
This sponsorship would mean the world to us as we thoroughly enjoy the theraplate and would love to help promote wherever we go! Thank you 😊

*** Finalist 2***
My name is Eleanor Boden and I am delighted to have been shortlisted for this wonderful opportunity. I am particularly pleased because I regularly use the theraplate as I believe it makes a real difference to my young horse Tallulah. Tallulah is a Irish Draught homebred 6 year old and I regularly compete at dressage County level showing and general fun activities. However like most big horses all is not simple when it comes to joints and feet therefore before any competition activity or hard exercise I use Philippa to assist with performance I tried to take Tallulah out at least once a week in the box to hack compete or show. I am active on social media and generally try to keep everybody up to speed with all my activities not only do I have my own horses but I work in the horse racing industry and therefore karma I could wax lyrical about the benefit of the theraplate.

***First finalist ***
My name is Christine Bowdler, I'm 28 years old and have been riding all my life. I compete up and down the country in disciplines from working hunter to riding horses and retrained racehorses. Last year was my first ride at HOYS and it was magical! I work hard to compete and provide for my horses, many holidays are spent on showgrounds. I am new to using the theraplate but can already see how beneficial it is, the positive impact it has had on my older horse with a ligament injury and how much it speeds up recovery. I would love to promote Union Equine Therapy and share its benefits with people on social media as well as out on the show circuit. I would really appreciate it if people would take a moment to vote for me. Thank you.
