Schnitzel prefers to be outside. This is the height of his activity level and he has a favorite tree he goes to once it gets hot out. He goes right back to the door when I dare to bring him in though 😃

Its not looking great for the July 4th weekend, the day that has the most lost pets...
We're closing the weekend and starting the week with only two empty kennels. This is distressing for our team because the days leading into and out of the July 4th holiday are some of the busiest of the year. Last year we took in 29 dogs from July 1-7.
If you can help us out by offering a temporary place to live for one of our shelter pets, please visit www.mcdogs.net and click on Foster a Dog.
Now is the time to make sure your dog is currently licensed, microchipped and wearing appropriate ID. Please keep dogs (and cats) safely inside during July 4th celebrations. Even the calmest of pets can be spooked by the loud noises associated with the holiday festivities. Thank you for your help!

Is your pet microchipped? If not please considering getting it done ASAP. It literally helps reunite lost pets and owners daily. You never believe it will happen to you until it does!! Let me share a story!!
On Mother's Day we helped a very sick black cat out of Sheridan. Someone found him wet, cold, lethargic and with puss coming from his eye. We knew he needed vet asap. The finder was willing to take him in and our rescue took over his bill and custody from there. The vet hospital worked quickly to make sure he was stable and then they let me know he had a microchip!!! It was registered but the phone number was not working so we took to social media. I now had the cats name.. Theodore. His owners name and roughly were they lived at one point. Thanks to that information his owner was found! While he was not with his original owner he was with his old owners sister. They moved you see and two days after the move Theodore got out. They looked for him but he wasn't found. Since he hadn't gotten use to his new home we assume Theodore got turned around and didn't truly know where home was. His mom saw the post called the vet, called us and rushed to go see him. Theodore was reunited with his owners after being MISSING FOR 6 MONTH!! Theodore is now at home with his family where he belongs!
This is the importance of a microchip. They truly work!! You can get it done at your vet for between $30-$60 normally. If your pet his chipped please look in to it at your next appointment.

Mabels first sight of snow. Ginne had snow her first year. They are on a morning walk now. No hostel guests this weekend/holiday.
Saturday morning. Helping me sell house plants and running around the office like they own the place. Gray Tabby is still looking for his family.
Pup Parade. Started our day this morning with moving a desk out of the office. This is the entrance and exit routine at every door.
Ziggy checked in for his vacation yesterday. He signed up for dog door operations class. Mabel was the instructor yesterday. You can see her nudging with her muzzle in this cartoon. Great instructor, Ziggy has been flying through the dog door like he created it.
Leggings is 14oz and started trying to use her litter box today. Her brother Socks, has been at the vet for 3 nights with urinary issues and catheters. We are able to pick him up in the morning! If you are able to help with medical expense, please donate to https://m.facebook.com/hazelshousepdx/ they have done an exceptional job at making sure Leggings and Socks are taken care of and rely on community support.
Yesterday the orphan kittens started meowing constantly at the door if we left the room they were in and have been trying to follow us or the dogs. (They try to follow Mabel mostly) We decided they have tamed down enough to be in the usual kitten corner of the common area. Haven’t moved their climbing post in yet but they have officially made the trek down the hall. They stopped the constant meowing too, so far. In a couple days I’m giving them a bath now that that they aren’t terrified of everyone!!
