Even though some cats do not tolerate grooming, a lot of them do and actually enjoy it. And guess what ??? we enjoy grooming them too!
Cats are well-equipped to take care of their own hair care needs. However, feline grooming has many benefits:

The 1st Grooming Experience is the key to “set the pet for success” 🏆 I have those words in my ❤️ and the voice of Jessica Wallace, NCMG in my head when grooming.
1. Always put yourself in the position of the client. Having a total stranger touching you and doing new things to you that you don’t know about?? 😳
2. Respect your clients personal space, curiosity and adjusting times ✋🏻
3. Place some cotton balls in their ears and a happy hootie (when possible) to protect your client form the loud noises of the dryer 🔇
4. Make them as comfortable as possible. Let them sit/lay down whenever possible; specially puppies, special needs and senior clients🛋
5. Allow clients to smell/feel tools. Allow them to get used to their sound/vibration even before using them: dryer, water hose, hidromasaje hose, dryer, nail Dremel; and monitor their reactions📳
6. Grooming training: little by little teach them how to get on and off the grooming table, how to turn in the tub and in the table. Pad them and tell them “Good boy/girl” when they got it right 👏🏻
7. Touch/pad their legs before nail clipping, when you are going to start working on that area so they know 👋🏻
8. Skipping a step is OK ✅ The first grooms are part of an adjustment period. Inform pet owner what was skipped and why
9. Regular grooming clients learn their grooming routine, step by step and even know when they are ready 👑
10. Let your client’s parents know about their likes and dislikes, true behavior and findings 😈😇
11. Building a trust relationship doesn’t happen miraculously. It takes time, love and commitment ❤️
