Are you or someone you love a “cat person” who has seriously considered adding a dog to your life?

Dyna could be the perfect gateway pet into dogdom.

She is small (17 pounds) and loves sunbathing and eating. That is it—really, that is all she likes. She not only tolerates other dogs but can also live with them harmoniously. However, if you are thinking you want a new play buddy for your current dog, she won't be it. She likes two things—see above—and playing with other dogs isn’t one of them.

She is 3 ½ years old and is currently on veterinary care. Her name is Dyna (sounds like Tina but with a D).

I just want her to live her best life, and be appreciated for who she is. In our home there are too many dogs and people doing too much and always on the go for her to be happy, she goes with the flow but a quiet low activity home would be an ideal place for her.

If you want to know more about this little Frenchie girl, please send me a private message.

The much anticipated Goldie & Dyna litter was born a week ago today.

Unfortunately two of the three little ones passed within hours of joining us on earth.

This is our beautiful brindle girl just starting to open her eyes. It’s too soon to decide if she will be staying with us forever or could be joining another family.

There will not be any more litters until mid to late 2025. If you would like help finding a new Frenchie puppy I would be happy to refer you to other ethical preservation breeders.

In the meantime we will enjoy raising this little singleton.

Goldie will soon begin trialing in scent work and will continue with rally obedience.

Dani will be shown in conformation and will try fast cat this fall.

On Thursday while visiting the vets office, he asked how Scrapple was doing. I excitedly mentioned how she was gaining weight, and her p**p had been great. (If you remember, she came to us with a two month old stitch still in place from a prior prolapse repair) We had her spay scheduled for next week, and were hopeful she’d soon be ready for adoption. Well, as usual the universe got jokes.

Scrapple suffered a significant re**al prolapse sometime last night. Luckily our vet graciously fit her in today, saving us an ER bill. While she survived her surgery, she suffered significant damage internally and we have a rough couple of days ahead of us, and she’s definitely not out of the woods.

Scrapple is the sweetest dog, and it infuriates me that people continue to recklessly breed Frenchies with zero care and consideration for their long term health. Please stop buying dogs from BYB’s and puppy mills. They are literally dying due to human ignorance and greed.

If you can spare a few manic Monday dollars, we would greatly appreciate it. And because I will never miss an opportunity to say this, FRENCH BULLDOGS DONT COME IN MERLE!!

As always, many thanks. ❤️

Hankie warning.

This irresistible breed was first bred in Nottingham in 1800s by lace makers who wanted to create a small, miniature version of English Bulldog; at first, some called these dogs, “Toy Bulldogs.” In the 1860s, the craftsmen, now casualties of the Industrial Revolution, moved to France, and settled in Normandy with their dogs, puppies often acquired from breeders who considered them to be too small, or didn’t care for ears that – gasp – stood up like a bat’s. It is there that the dogs were given the name, French bulldogs.

But did you know where the breed got its nickname?

French Bulldogs first appeared in the United States in 1896 at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog show in New York, and that was when they got their nickname, ‘Frenchie.’

Frenchies went on to become hugely popular among American society ladies who first noted how fashionable the dogs were in Paris. It wasn’t unheard of for a French Bulldog in 1910 to sell for $3,000. To put this in perspective, the relative inflated value of $3,000 today is $81,827.87. Needless to say, it was the well heeled with names like Rockefeller and J.P. Morgan who could afford these dogs.

One of these affluent owners was Robert Daniel, a 27 year old banker who was returning to the United States from France with a brindle French Bulldog named Gamin de Pycombe for whom he had paid around $16,000 US dollars. Gamin was sired by CH Charlemagne of Amersham, a French import to Britain who was Britain’s first pied champion Frenchie, and who later became the first French Bulldog to be a champion in both the UK and the United States.

Sadly, the pair were coming home on the Titanic. Gamin was said to be staying in his owner’s cabin, and when another passenger, Edith Russell, walked down the hall on her way to the upper deck after the ship had hit the iceberg, she remembered hearing him whimper. Russell went into the cabin to calm him, and added in an interview given in 1966 that that the dog was so scared that she petted him and laid him down on his bed. Gamin was very obedient and looked at her ever so sweetly as she left the cabin. Had she known how much danger they were in, she would have taken the dog with her. Another surviving passenger later reported having seen a French Bulldog swimming in the ocean, so evidently, someone did let Gamin de Pycombe out of the cabin, however, the little dog drowned.

Robert Daniel survived and went on to become a Virginia senator.

I was planning to save this photo to announce 📣 receiving the bronze level versatility award from the French Bulldog Club of America 🇺🇸 but….. because of a significant (like a year long) delay in my membership status we won’t be eligible this year. The good news is with this extra time we have now we maybe able to earn enough titles to be eligible for the silver level award…. Regardless of awards and the alphabet soup of titles I’m super proud 🥹 of this dog and have been having so much fun 🤩 doing all the things with this guy at my side 😎.

We already know French Bulldogs are the best, but with the recent extra publicity promoting our beloved smooshy-faced big-eared friends, more potential owners will seek out their next new companion. The suggestions in these infographics are a helpful guide when looking for any new puppy and are especially important now for Frenchies.
