How to Get Rid of Fleas in the Yard Part 5

Don't forget Puppy

Follow these steps to treat your pets for fleas:

Start by bathing your pets with flea shampoo. This is an excellent way to quickly get rid of fleas on heavily infested pets.
Maintain ongoing flea control by using a flea collar, pills or topical flea drops (I prefer the last one).
Some people also bathe their pets once or twice a month and add a little vinegar as a repellent for extra protection.
Keep your pets on a healthy diet, rich in biotin, omega essential fatty acids and B-vitamins.
Groom your pets regularly using a flea comb. This is great for discovering and removing fleas in the early stages.
When walking your pets, avoid grassy trails where fleas reside. This includes long grass in your yard. Brought to you by Fleabites. net

Use cedar chips to keep the fleas out of your yard

Buy large flat cedar chips. You can get them from any gardening or home improvement store.
Start by putting the chips along the fence. This will deter fleas from your neighbor’s yards.
Keep in mind that cedar chips deter cats as well. So this is not a solution for cat lovers.
Generously sprinkle the large, flat chips under bushes and shrubs, as well as along the perimeter of your home. Do not forget to add chips under your deck or patio. Brought to you by Fleabites. net

How to Get Rid of Fleas in the Yard Part 3

Use nematodes to get rid of fleas

Mix the nematodes with water. They usually come in form of sponges. Fill up the entire bucket with water and place the sponge in the bucket. You might have to squeeze the sponges to get the nematodes out.
Pour the water into a spraying can. Discard the sponge
You can add some more water to the can to dilute the suspension.
Start spraying the bushes, shrubs and lawn. Be thorough in application.
Keep the soil moist for the first 7 days after spraying beneficial nematodes. This will allow them to reproduce and their offspring will look for more fleas and bugs in your garden to use as hosts. Brought to you by Fleabites. net

Keep kids and pets away from the home and yard for the duration of the treatment.
Remove clutter from the yard such as old bikes, tires, children’s and pet’s toys etc. If possible, cover up slides and swing sets with tarp or sturdy cloth.
Cover your face with protective gear. Use hand gloves when handling the spray equipment.
Begin spraying the yard with insecticide.
Make sure you cover all areas such as under the decks and patios, shrubs etc.
Repeat treatment if needed to get rid of newly hatched larvae and eliminate flea eggs.

How to Get Rid of Fleas in the Yard Part 1

Flood The Yard with Water

Flea larvae and flea eggs cannot survive a flooded lawn. Therefore, the easiest way to end the life cycle of the vicious flea is to periodically flood the entire yard. Besides killing the fleas, the water will also wash away all the f***s from the adult fleas (this is what flea larvae eat), decreasing their chance of survival to zero. During rainy seasons this shouldn’t be necessary as Mother Nature takes care of the problem, but if the weather is mostly dry and sunny, you have to cut the grass, remove debris and flood the lawn often to get rid of fleas and prevent them from breeding. Be sure to flood the whole area with water, especially around trees, fences, garden furniture and the doghouse. All the grass in the yard should be slightly flooded to ensure that every flea larvae and flea egg is covered in water.

Grooming: A**l Sacs at Home
Brought to you by the American Kennel Club

A**l sacs are located on each side of your dog’s a**s; they are glands that exude scent when your dog has a bowel movement. If you notice your dog scooting along on his rear or licking or scratching his a**s, he may have impacted a**l sacs. Ask your veterinarian how to treat an a**l sac problem.

Tooth Brushing at Home 🐶
Brought to you by the American Kennel Club

Clean your dog’s teeth frequently with special toothbrushes and toothpaste designed for dogs. If your dog balks at having his teeth brushed, get him used to it by rubbing his teeth and gums with your finger. Then put a little of the toothpaste on your finger and let him sniff and lick it; do the same with the toothbrush. Make sure to provide chew toys that will help clean his teeth. As your dog gets older, he may have a buildup of tartar that requires special cleaning by a veterinarian.

Ear Cleaning at Home
You should clean your dog’s ears once a month, more if he’s prone to ear problems. Clean the outer part of the ear only, using a damp cloth or a cotton swab soaked in mineral oil. Never force anything into the ear. Some dogs need the hair plucked just inside the ear to keep air circulating; ask your veterinarian if this is necessary for your dog.

Eye Cleaning at Home
Clean slight discharges with a moist cotton ball. Do not put anything irritating in your dog’s eyes.

Grooming: Brushing 🐶😃
Brought to you by the American Kennel Club

Several brushing sessions a week will keep the average dog neat and clean; daily attention is even better. Brush all the way down to the skin, letting the massaging action stimulate blood circulation and loosen and remove flakes of dandruff.

The kind of equipment you need depends on your dog’s coat texture and length. Longhaired dogs need pin brushes, which have long, round-ended stainless-steel or chrome-plated pins. Short-, medium-, and some long-coated breeds need bristle brushes. There are also slicker brushes for removing mats and dead hair; rubber curry combs to polish smooth coats and remove dead hair; clippers, stripping knives, rakes, hairdryers, and other grooming tools.

When brushing, always check for burrs and other stubborn plant material; mats, which most frequently form behind the ears and under the legs; and any cuts or scrapes on the skin itself.

All dogs shed, though some definitely shed more than others. Regular brushing will help keep shedding under control.

Bathing at Home

Your dog should have regular, but not frequent, baths, depending on the breed and coat of your dog. Too-frequent washing removes natural oils and causes the coat to become dry and harsh.

When necessary, use a mild shampoo formulated for dogs. Stand the dog in a tub or basin, and put cotton balls in his ears and a couple of drops of mineral oil in his eyes. Wet the dog with warm water and apply shampoo from the neck back. After lathering and scrubbing, rinse your dog thoroughly with warm water. Rub vigorously with a towel (he’ll help you with vigorous shaking!), and then blow-dry if necessary. Comb or brush as required.

Grooming: Nail Trimming at Home by the AKC.

Nails must be kept short for the feet to remain healthy. Long nails interfere with the dog’s gait, making walking awkward or painful. They can also break easily. This usually happens at the base of the nail, where blood vessels and nerves are located, and precipitates a trip to the veterinarian. If you can hear the nails clicking on the floor, they’re too long.

To trim your dog’s nails, use a specially designed clipper. Most have safety guards to prevent you from cutting the nails too short. You want to trim only the ends, before the “quick” which is a blood vessel inside the nail. (You can see where the quick ends on a white nail, but not on a dark nail.) Clip only the hook-like part of the nail that turns down.

Many dogs dislike having their nails trimmed. You can make it a painless procedure by getting your dog used to having his feet handled in puppyhood. Start trimming gently, a nail or two at a time, and your dog will learn that you’re not going to hurt him.

If you accidentally cut the quick, stop the bleeding with some styptic powder. If you find it impossible to clip your dog’s nails, take him to a veterinarian or groomer.

🐶Are You Forgetting to Brain Train Your Dog?🐶

Many owners are not aware of this, but when it comes to dogs, idle minds are the devil’s workshop. Yet many owners are happy to leave their dogs bored by the fireplace all day, leading to untold behavior problems. The simple secret to a well-trained dog is engaging their mind and getting them thinking.

In the wild, before domestication, dogs would spend much of their lives performing tasks necessary for survival.

Even in more modern history, dogs had special roles to perform in their relationships with humans.

You can still see these natural drives in dogs today! For example, you will notice how beagles love to follow scents, how some terrier breeds love to dig, and how treeing coonhounds bark upon noticing prey up a tree.

Unlike humans who perhaps dread the 9 to 5 grind, dogs actively WANT to work, and when they do not, they become prone to behavior problems, disobedience, and poor psychological well-being.

Many owners spend THOUSANDS on dog training when the solution could be as simple as providing Rover with more mental stimulation!

Fortunately, Brain Training for Dogs offers a solution to this problem.

Feeding guide is to the rule of 10%. Fruits or other treats should not be the staple of the dog’s base food they can make up to ten (10%) of the total daily consumption. Offer small pieces to start as some dogs may not tolerate the food. Have fun start small and build and watch your doggie.
