✨Exciting News✨

Keys Pet Nanny is partnering with Marrvelous Pet Rescues - MPR to provide essential training services to our Upper Keys community. The KPN x MPR collaboration includes programs opened to the general public as well as services catered to helping adoptable dogs, dogs in jeopardy of being surrendered by owners because of behavioral issues and families navigating their new life after adopting from MPR.

Since I’ve started training I have provided services and tools free of charge or at a discounted rate to help support some of our most vulnerable pups. I can’t do it alone! With your help, we can raise money to keep these services free for families seeking help with dog training. I am thrilled to continue to build programming and services with MPR!

Keep an eye out for some fundraising events coming your way this Fall! Let’s raise money to help MPR provide training services to the community we all love so much! 💜

Please share this post!
PS: MPR is a non profit animal rescue so donations are a fantastic write off😉

✨Hi, I’m Sarah!✨
I’m so happy you’re here.

Growing up, I was the animal kid. Catching lizards, snakes, bugs, you name it. While I was in elementary school, my mom taught 3rd grade and was a part of The Wild Kingdom. In her classroom were animals from every animal group. I loved watching her use animals to connect and teach her students. There is magic in the way teaching allows her to reach people and I have carried that feeling throughout my life.

After graduating from UCF in 2011, with a degree in psychology, I decided to move home and accept a job offer working with at risk teens, helping them navigate education, employment and life after graduation. I later transitioned to child dependency, working with local families, foster/adoptive children and parents. Once again I found myself wanting to move on to the next thing. I took a job as a nanny/assistant for a family that I still work with today.

Although I had been pet sitting regularly since graduating high school, in 2019 I took the leap and Keys Pet Nanny was officially established. In 2020, I decided to expand our services to dog training. My degree in psychology was put to work, even more than before. The study of human and animal behavior fascinates me and I love to share my knowledge with others! I couldn’t wait to help people create better relationships with their dogs, and live a fulfilled life together! Private Lessons allow me to work with families individually and help create a plan that is most realistic for their life style and their commitment level. Board and Trains allow me take on the foundation work and give families a jump start to the training they are seeking.

Keys Pet Nanny has an intimate team of locals, who have strong ties to this amazing community. We work with pet parents who see their pets as cherished members of their family. KPN provides individualized luxury pet care and top on the line dog training with a team you can trust. We are thankful for the KPN pack and the outpouring support we continue to receive near and far. We wouldn’t be here without YOU. ♥️🐾

Thanks Monica Sheehan Photography for always embracing the chaos I bring and helping me bring a vision alive! ♥️🐾

Cooper’s foster family and I worked together on some important training that would help him find his forever home. Big shout out to Marta for putting in the work and giving this guy the best chance of being adopted. His forever home has kept up with training and Cooper is thriving! So excited for this guy🥰

Happy Adoption Alert!!
Cooper came to MPR at 11 months old and 88 lbs. He had been loved his entire life but his father received a tough medical diagnosis and could no longer care for this big rambunctious pup. He was being fostered when his new special people saw his photo on Facebook. Lorie fell in love with him and cut her vacation trip short so she and Rudy could welcome Cooper into their home. He is now running with Lorie, playing fetch, and swimming in the bay. We can see all the love! Congrats to Cooper, Lorie, and Rudy!

Kim has worked with multiple trainers, but very little has made a difference in Hazels behavior and temperament. Hazel has become more and more pushy recently and is beginning to act out aggressively. The family can’t safely walk Hazel because she is not engaged and is extremely strong! Kim was desperate to find a way to work with Hazel, but most important keep everyone safe.

During our one on one, we talked about goals, tools, what we are willing to do to get there, what are realistic expectations, physical and mental needs and where to start.

The session started off messy. Hazel was very overwhelmed by being held accountable. She was trying to do everything she could to flee. She was introduced to commands and movements she has never had to do before.

But guess what we did…

✨WE WORKED THROUGH THE MESS✨

The videos in the comments show the progress we made with Hazel at our first one on one. Prior to this, she was at the end of the leash pulling as hard as she could, whining, frantic and listening to nothing we were saying. Then, with clear communication, guidance and accountability, she started to understand.

So proud of Hazel’s humans for working hard to show up for her!

“I feel like all I’m doing is yelling at her.”
“Every time someone comes to the gate/door, I have to get control of him and make him stop jumping/barking”
“When we see someone on our walk he pulls so hard to say hi and then I’m scrambling to regain control”

Who can relate?🙋🏻‍♀️

Balanced Dog Training is all about finding a way to communicate with your dog, so they understand the expectations you’ve set.

✨Communication, Clarity & Guidance✨

🐾If you know your dog is going to react to someone coming to your home. Set them up for success. Give them the job of *place*.
🐾If you know your dog is reactive on walks or seeks out anything with a pulse to get attention. Set them up for success. Teach them *heel* and be clear that while they are walking in heel, their focus is you and they are neutral to distractions.

Without structure your dog is left to decide on their own what should be done, and honestly their impulsive decisions are usually not your first choice when it comes to behavior!

Prevent those unwanted behaviors with communication, clarity and guidance. Provide them with the structure they crave. Stop constantly correcting. Create the relationship you want! You’ve got this🩷

FOSTER NEEDED!!! Our foster family network is composed of absolute angels! Sadly, we are always in need of more foster homes This sweet boy was found as a stray, but when the owners were contacted after the microchip was scanned, they said they just didn't want him anymore. 37 lbs, and seemingly good with other dogs and people too...we just don't get it. One look into his eyes, the one floppy ear ~ we are already in love!! Please send us a text to 305-735-2795, or call Mon -Fri, 9 to 5, apply online here https://mprescues.org/adoption-application/ if you can foster this sweet boy or any pet in need🐾🐾

We had the pleasure of doing an intake evaluation for Cooper to join the MPR pack.
What a sweet guy! He is still young, so has some of those puppy tendencies. But let me tell you, this guy is eager to learn and please. His family is struggling tremendously with having to rehome him, but due to health reasons, they are making the brave decision of rehoming him because it’s the best decision for Cooper! Let’s help find this awesome pup a forever home.
