The weather was beautiful and a fun, supportive and engaged group of horsewoman made the most of it this weekend attending A Horsewoman’s Retreat at the lovely Shepparton Equestrian Centre.
Some wonderful moments of learning occurred for both horses and riders/handlers this weekend as sessions covered ground control, ridden skills and mind set exercises.

A Horsewoman’s Retreat held at the beautiful Shepparton Equestrian Centre- just out of Shepparton. The facilities include indoor riding space perfect for colder/wet weather.

A Horsewoman’s Retreat is a full weekend covering mindset work, ground work and ridden work well surrounded by like minded women. Fully catered with limited numbers making for a relaxing and enjoyable weekend - all about you and your horse. This Retreat is for people who've not been to one before.

Our most recent A Horsewoman’s Retreat- Next Steps was held at Horse Shepherd Equine Sanctuary over the weekend. With beautiful weather this lovely group supported each other other as each individual reached some awesome goals.
The over arching theme of the retreat was identfiying and addressing training gaps - with horse and riders leaving with new skills and exercises to continue improving at home.
A last minute cancellation means we have 1 spot for A Horsewoman’s Retreat- Next Steps. This Retreat is to be held at the lovely Horse Shepherd Equine Sanctuary in Gordon Victoria next weekend, Feb 17-18.
A Next Steps Retreat is for participants who have already attended one of our retreats - it covers new content across mind set, ground skills and ridden work.

At our most recent A Horsewoman’s Retreat we had an attendee wishing to upskill but unable to get her current horses to the venue. With the help and offer from Horse Shepherd Equine Sanctuary we were able to utilise the lovely HSES Rolex - giving this Horsewoman some new skills and boosted confidence.
A Horsewoman’s Retreat is suitable for a variety of horses with sessions covering mindset, groundwork and ridden work (where appropriate)

The facilities provided a relaxed environment for both horses and riders to learn new skills, be challenged in their thinking training techniques and to build trusting relationships with their horses.

DO I HAVE TO RIDE?
Not at all! We’ve often had unstarted horses come along for exposure as well as small ponies and horses people don’t choose to ride for a variety of reasons. Because there are two coaches we’re able to adapt exercises to continue giving you valuable content, even during ridden sessions. Retreats are a great opportunity to expose a young horse in a safe and supportive environment.
WHAT IF I HAVE CONFIDENCE CHALLENGES?
Please come along! We prefer to market these weekends as an opportunity for you to build new skills. We understand that most of our attendees will be feeling challenged in some situations and we’re here to help you through those challenges at your pace and level.
I DON’T FEEL LIKE I HAVE THE SKILLS TO ATTEND
Yes you do! We work with you at the level you’re at. We practice in an environment of zero judgement of yourself, or others. Our attendees are always there for each other, cheering everyone’s successes, however small or large.
DO I NEED TO HAVE A HORSE TO ATTEND?
As a general rule yes, you do. We may have some very limited opportunities to provide horses in the future. These will be limited to one space at each Retreat when they occur.
WHY CAN’T YOU DO A RETREAT IN MY AREA?
We very carefully select venues to suit our wonderful clients. We know you don’t want to stand out in the wet and cold all weekend (neither do we!) and we know you want some creature comforts at the end of the day. We also want to offer you opportunities to put your new skills into practical settings. Our venues are selected to cover things like obstacle courses, warm lounge areas etc.
Two upcoming Retreat dates have been confirmed with spots available for both - inbox and deposit to secure your spot.
Both retreats to be held at the beautiful Horse Shepherd Equine Sanctuary with facilities including small indoor/large outdoor arena, obstacle course and camping (horse and rider)

Each retreat is slightly different to the last as we allow flexibility in the content to suite all individual combinations that attend. These retreats are all about the attendee's!
Some common topics covered, both on the ground and in saddle are (but not limited too)
⭐️Leadership skills for both horse and handler/rider.
⭐️ Confidence building for the horse including the use of obstacles.
⭐️ Mindset activities/sessions.

Created for horsewoman who have attended a retreat previously, this version of a retreat focuses on revision and extension of topics covered at the original retreat. Each Next Steps format and topics change to suit the group and horses attending.

Fiona has been a riding coach for some 15 years. She has primarily worked with women returning to riding and nervous riders. She’s passionate about riders developing the skills and confidence to truly enjoy their riding and time spent with their horses.
More recently she’s also worked as a bit fitter across pleasure, performance and race horses. Fiona also continues to enjoy starting standardbreds to saddle after their racing life.

Elle from Hilltop Horsemanship has a background in a variety of equine disciplines- riding dressage as a youth rider and now competing in cow sports.
With Elles involvement in the racing industry (C grade trainers liscence and becoming a clerk of the course) retraining of OTT Stb and Tb is one of her areas of expertise.
Elle enjoys being one of two clanicians at our retreats where she is able to help people find connection, confidence and control with their equine partner.

A Horsewoman’s Retreat is fully catered with two clanicians and a small group allowing for each individual to be engaged and supported over two days.

Kookaburra Park provided a lovely warm and dry environment for 6 horsewoman to attend our most recent retreat over Thursday and Friday.
