Hi everyone!

I’ve had a lot of new customers lately so I thought I would formally introduce myself! My name is Bre and I am the owner and creator of Mutt Stuff! Pictured with me is the dog who was the inspiration for this business. His name was Silas and he was a sweet Great Dane Mix.

Si was my very best friend. He has since passed away due to old age. The original idea was just “Si’s Bow Ties” and the purpose of it was going to be to help me raise money for all his medical bills that started to pile up as he got older. However, I didn’t actually end up starting the business until after he had already passed.

I never imagined for the business to go beyond Bow Ties. Now in addition to Si’s Bow Ties, we have Sarah’s Scarfs, Filson’s Friendship Scrunchies, and Tarly’s Treats! Sarah has also since passed away due to several health issues, but also due to old age. She was a sweet old Beagle who would have loved to model her scarfs if she was still here! Filson (a Red Setter) and Tarly (an English Setter) are both current dogs of mine. I also have a dog named Mulligan (Golden Retriever Mix) who doesn’t currently have a product… but trust me… it’s on it’s way! 😉

I opened Mutt Stuff on Easter Day 2022. As we are approaching the one year anniversary, I have been reflecting on those start-up days. I actually self-taught myself how to sew thanks to YouTube videos and lots of practice! I was going through a very tough loss at the time and I couldn’t go to work, but I also wanted to keep my mind busy. And so, Mutt Stuff was born!

Now, anytime I see someone else going through a tough time I feel drawn in to help! Mutt Stuff has had two benefits so far. The Rudy O’Donoghue benefit (if you all remember - he is my baby nephew who was badly burned in an accident - he is doing so well now!) and the most recent Merlin Van Zee Benefit. I plan to have many more of these in the future!

Sewing became something I do in mourning or when I’m having a bad day, because that’s what started this whole thing! Now it is like therapy to me - a healing session if you will. You know that feeling you get when you visit a loved one’s gravesite? You also know that feeling when you stand in the shower for those extra five minutes just staring at the wall deep in your own thoughts? And then you know that feeling when you’re home alone and you start singing and dancing to your favorite songs like you’re the star of your own show? If you were to marry those three feelings… that’s how I feel when I sit at my sewing machine. Reflection, remorse, joy, motivation, freedom, and so many memories flood over me.

As I have mentioned before - I am a very very small business and I am my own boss, but I am also my only employee. 😆 I also have a full time job - so Mutt Stuff creations happen during any free time I can find! I started out sewing at my kitchen table, but a few months ago my husband and I transformed our guest room into my new little Mutt Stuff Shop!

I absolutely love what I do. And every single order I receive puts a huge smile on my face! As the orders come in, my dreams grow bigger and bigger. Right now I am still only on Facebook. But I do plan to get a website up soon! You can, however, order Tarly’s Treats on Etsy as well!

Yesterday, I got a shocking call that a Veterinarian, mentor, and friend, whom I had the honor to work with for 3.5 years, had passed away.

All of the doctors at Summer Street Animal Clinic are “color coded” to keep things in order.

Dr. Merlin Van Zee’s color was green. 💚

Mutt Stuff will donate 50% to Dr. Van Zee’s family for every Si’s Bow Tie, Sarah’s Scarf, and Filson’s Friendship Scrunchie ordered in this beautiful solid green color (pictured). We will call it “MVZ Green” for Merlin Van Zee. (Picture of Filson’s Friendship Scrunchies in the comments).

Let’s deck our pets out in green in remembrance of Dr. Van Zee, who has left this Earth too soon. 💚
