Focusing on pain management is essential. By treating pain itself, we can significantly improve a patient's quality of life, even when the root cause remains unresolved.

The goal is to reduce suffering and provide comfort, acknowledging that relief can be just as important as curing the underlying condition.

Of course our actions often have an impact on the way our dogs behave. But just because they act differently with a friend, family, dog walker, day care, does not mean it’s a reflection on you.

More often than not we are seeing suppression, the same way we might see children behave better around someone they don’t know well or even us as adults. It takes confidence and a feeling of safety to truly be ourselves. So once we are comfortable we are seeing our dogs feel safe enough to show us their true behaviours, then we can address them if necessary.

They are so often our emotional support and there for us when we fell angry, sad, frustrated.
So it makes sense we are there for them too.

When we struggle with the guilt, the worry, the compassion. It’s a sign of how much we care and much we give to our dogs.

It’s probably a sign you’re getting it right. Just remember to take care of yourself too.

Looking at the why behind a behaviour is the best thing we can do for our dogs, and ourselves.

When we see behaviour for what it really is, we realise it’s not personal, just practical for our dogs at the time.

We need our dogs to growl so we know when they are close to their limit. That they really need us to listen and things are getting serious.

They are never a warning we should seek to remove but one we should be glad to hear. Because that’s what’s going to prevent things from escalating further.

Cats rely on their sense of smell to assess their environment. Your cat will mark their territory by rubbing their face and body, leaving pheromones to create a sense of security. Learn more about creating a secure environment for your cat at https://bit.ly/2RFmBT7.
