Princess is on the Prowl

Please keep an eye out for our escaped bottle baby, Princess. We thought she was a Maine C**n mix due to her size. We had no idea she would become a mountain lion until the food bill tripled and the baby gate she leapt over shattered like a toothpick.

Found as a cub wandering the outskirts of the Finger Lakes, she had been taken in by a foster who raised her alongside their house cats. Princess became as affectionate as a lap kitty—purring loudly, chasing feather toys, and curling up with fosters during nap time. She loved cuddles, adored belly rubs (yes, really), and could be coaxed into wearing pink accessories without protest.

Unfortunately, her foster accidentally left a gate unlatched. In came the smell of fresh air and freedom as Princess slipped into the night.

Her disappearance has caused a stir throughout Rochester. Rumors spread like wildfire—“big cat sightings” near Cobbs Hill, pawprints in Highland Park, a flash of tan fur by the Genesee River.

As the city keeps watch for its unlikely feline fugitive, remember:
Princess is sweet, but she’s still a wild animal. If you see her, please do not approach—call 911 immediately. Help us bring her back safely.

*this is satire but do call 911 with sightings. Please do not call in false reports

Hey everyone,

We want to share an important update about a new challenge we’re facing—and how you can help us continue saving lives.

Recently, our long-time vetting partner, Rochester Community Animal Clinic, announced a significant price increase for their spay/neuter and vaccination services. While we understand the rising costs that veterinary clinics face, these hikes have real and heartbreaking consequences for cats in our community:

🐾 Higher costs mean fewer pets get altered. When spay/neuter fees go up, many owners skip those crucial procedures, which directly lowers the probability that cats will be vetted.

🐾 Unaltered cats often end up homeless. Intact females can become pregnant quickly, and unneutered males are more prone to fighting and marking—behaviors that lead to abandonment or rehoming.

🐾 Overpopulation spirals out of control. Every intact female contributes to more litters, and each new kitten adds to the struggle for space and resources in already overcrowded shelters.

🐾 Kittens suffer and die without homes or affordable care. With so many without families and limited access to low-cost vetting, countless young lives are lost.

🐾 Rescues will have to limit intakes. With vetting costs climbing, rescues like ours are forced to say “no” more often. That leaves desperate owners with nowhere to turn, and those cats often end up on the streets. Most rescues are already full, and the city shelter is drowning in cats, too. There is simply nowhere for them to go.

🐾 Rescues are forced to raise adoption fees. To absorb these higher vet bills, organizations like ours may need to increase our fees—making it even harder for deserving cats to find their forever homes.

🐾 Rescuers are burnt out. The problem gets worse every day and there’s no end in sight. Many rescues are either taking breaks or shutting down due to the lack of affordable and reliable vet care.

In effect, these price hikes at Rochester Community Animal Clinic aren’t just a number on a bill—they’re contributing to the very overpopulation crisis we’re all trying to solve.

That’s why we are asking for your help. If you can, please consider making a donation to our spay/neuter fund. Your gift will help cover these increased costs so that we can keep rescuing, vetting, and rehoming cats—without passing more fees on to adopters or letting another kitten slip through the cracks.

🙏 Please donate below to support affordable, life-saving vet care for our community cats. Every dollar makes a difference!

Thank you for standing with us—and with the cats who need you most.

Note: it is unclear if the prices below are for low income families or for rescue partners. However, below is what was sent to all local rescues… For reference, cat neuters were $66 and spays were $90 for rescues… 😬

Cross-eyed grumpy cat has been looking for his forever home for almost 500 days!

Meet Beasley. Beasley is a 3 year old boy who has a big personality. Our friends over at rockatstnr saved him from a feral colony and we took him on.

Beasley was a tough case at first. He started having behavioral issues with me and would try to attack my legs when I got close. He would also pounce on me if I was sitting near him. For months, I didn’t feel safe working with him - to the point where I considered behavioral euthanasia. However, after months, he finally settled down and we have been besties ever since.

We don’t know why his behavior changed. Perhaps he had a bad experience with humans in that past. Maybe that’s why he was on the streets… All of that is behind him and he finally feels safe and gets to relax now.

Beasley is a lonely boy. He seeks attention constantly and is a talker. He loves to play with cat nip toys. He’s also a chonk - has the big boy cheeks and huge paws.

Beasley is FIV+ and while normally, they can be around non positive kitties, unfortunately, he is not cat-friendly and he would likely spread the disease to others. Dogs are unknown. He would likely do great with anyone 15+. He’s very strong so I would not recommend a young child with him. He does get overstimulated sometimes but he will let you know before he gets upset.

He has made a huge improvement and we feel confident that he is safe to adopt out. We are offering indefinite foster to adopt and his adoption fee is waived. He is neutered, microchipped and is up to date on Rabies and FVRCP vaccines for another 2.5 years.

If you would like to meet Beasley, apply below!

I have been MIA for a bit and I appreciate everyone’s patience while I try to get everything under control. My mom was recently diagnosed with cancer but thankfully, a hysterectomy should take care of it. Bloodwork and a CAT scan show that it is unlikely that the cancer has spread.

We are ok. But that doesn’t stop rescue work and we have upcoming bills to pay. We recently spent $281 to get Ponyo, Orchid and their litters their first set of shots.

The next round of vaccines are next week and will be $100 per litter/mom. Their alters which includes their final FVRCP vaccines, Rabies and microchips are scheduled for the end of July and will cost about $125 each.

Please donate. We need at least $1000 to cover all of their vetting. 🙏🏻

People suck! 😡

We are still on intake hold and yet, the community does not always respect that. The lady who owns the holding space we use is also a landlord and manages 100+ properties around the Rochester area. At this point, most of her tenants know she likes to help cats. Many reach out to her for help and often, we are able to help.

Several times, tenants have either left cats and dogs behind when they moved, or they guilt trip us into taking the cats because they will “throw them outside,” if we don’t take them. It is very common for people to threaten rescuers with harm to their pets if the rescue doesn’t help.

Today, this tenant did just that so now we have a very friendly (despite the picture) momma cat and her two four-week-old kittens in our holding space even though we aren’t taking more cats in.

We will be reaching out to other rescues for help as I am still not at the capacity to manage more vetting for additional cats. I am so tired and angry with people. Don’t get a pet if you aren’t going to keep them and ffs get them fixed!

If you are a rescue and are available to help these three, please message us. They are thankfully healthy with no obvious concerns.

💔

She was supposed to have a happy ending. She was rescued, she was safe, she was going to find a wonderful forever home. It wasn’t supposed to end like this.
Thank you to everyone at Rochester Emergency vet today for your help and kindness.

Huge thanks to Dr Raspante at Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services for her expertise last night.

The cafe owner is one of our fosters most of the time but with us on intake hold, she took this momma in. The next day, she gave birth and at first, everything seemed ok. It’s been about a week since giving birth but suddenly, she became very ill. Her temperature was over 105° and her breathing was labored. She still tried to nurse her babies but was so dehydrated, she wasn’t producing much milk. I was able to administer fluids which helped bring her temp down to 102.9° but I didn’t like her breathing and recommended emergency.

The cafe owner is on a tight budget and Dr Raspante really helped work within that. She was placed on oxygen and only a calcium panel was ran. Her calcium is low and she has an infection - possibly from a retained placenta. She needs to be spayed as soon as possible but for now, she is on antibiotics to hopefully clear the infection. While she was being monitored, their staff were feeding the babies and the Dr even took a look at one of the kittens who has a large hernia. The Dr said she has never seen one do large where the heart beat is that noticeable. Please pray for that sweet baby boy 🙏🏻

Please donate what you can. We were able to contribute $100 towards her care. She is not out of the woods and may need additional testing🙏🏻

This sweet girl is STILL available for adoption!! Gracie would be best in a home with no other animals or possibly one cat with parents who are understanding that she might need a few months to totally adjust. Gracie is the sweetest girl and is a snuggle bug! Apply for Gracie with Right Meow Rescue!

This is a situation we were alerted to last night and our friends at ROC The Dogs Rescue were able to assist with. This was a very dangerous situation and we are so appreciative that they were able to help.

We will be reporting the abusers to Lollypop Farm. There are more animals in the home that need help but it was too dangerous to stay to get more out of there. Please donate to Roc the Dogs if you can 🙏🏻
