Asteroid Needs Your Love & Support 💕

Asteroid came to us from RocKats TNR after they pulled him from an abandoned home. He had been living in the attic with a few feral kitties when they caught him. Once trapped, they realized he was not feral at all. They asked us if we had room for him and we were open for intakes at that time. We had to say yes for this sweet boy!

He’s been living at The Scratching Post Cat Cafe for a few months and recently, his abdomen has been very tense and bloated. I was worried about FIP or something equally bad so we were able to get him into the vet. An abdominal ultrasound was performed and the Dr also looked at his heart and thankfully, he had no abnormalities. An xray was performed and hr was diagnosed with bronchitis. He was given a steroid injection (depo) and an antibiotic injection (convenia) and we should see improvement over the next few days.

The xray also revealed a shocking surprise. Asteroid was previously shot! He has a pellet still in him. Thankfully, it’s not affecting anything but it goes to show how tough living on the streets can be for cats.

All that matters is that he’s going to be ok. We are so appreciative of Katie at the cafe for constantly monitoring our kitties and reporting any concerns. Bronchitis can get bad quickly but fortunately, it was caught early.

This was a very unexpected vet bill in between a ton of appointments. We had 6 cats spayed/neutered yesterday, 14 cats in for vaccines today. Another 7 are scheduled for vaccines for Monday… it’s adding up fast. Please donate to help cover his bill and to help more kitties in our care 🙏🏻

🌺 Happy Mother’s Day! 🌺

Today, we also want to recognize these eight incredible momma cats who have raised their last litters. They will never have to endure pregnancy, labor, or the stress of caring for kittens again. Instead, they can focus on what every cat deserves: safety, comfort, and love.

Spaying and neutering saves lives. Every year, countless cats enter shelters and rescues because there are simply not enough homes for them all. Preventing unwanted litters is one of the most important ways we can reduce suffering and help control the homeless cat population.

All it takes is one intact male to cause serious damage. We recently took in four moms and 21 (😱) kittens after one male got everyone pregnant. Please spay/neuter your pets 🙏🏻

We are grateful for every supporter, adopter, foster, and volunteer who helps make this work possible. Thank you for helping us give these mommas a better future.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us!

Tonight we are saying goodbye to one of the ferals we care for. We manage a colony on Webster Ave and we have about 7-10 cats that show up consistently. This evening, one of them was hit by a car. He is not handleable/treatable and I made the tough decision to euthanize him at Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services

This is the unfortunate side of cats living outside. Their death is inevitable - whether by car, wild animal, weather, people, etc. Life outside is cruel and our hearts hurt for this baby. He did not choose this life.

RIP “Short Tail” 💔

Everyone is doing well! Another foster took one of the moms and her six kittens so now the group is 3 adults and 11 kittens. While the kittens don’t love the eye meds, their eyes have significantly improved. They will receive treatment for 10 days.

Treating that many kittens is not easy. We have to put everyone in a carrier and then we release them one by one as they receive treatment. This also creates really cute photos 😻

Please donate to their care. Even $5 helps. Every dollar matters. We have raised about 10% of our $4k goal. Thank you to those who have donated 🙏🏻

🚨 Our biggest intake ever 🚨

We picked up 21 cats from the same home. Four mommas and their kittens that are between 4-8 weeks old.

The mommas are remarkably clean. No fleas, no ear mites, no upper respiratory symptoms. The kittens are a different story. All of the kittens have eye infections that need to be treated twice daily for 10 days. They received their first round of eye meds this morning and when I checked on them this evening, they already are doing much better.

These guys were also dehydrated. Not intentional by the previous owner but this is why it’s so important to have a lot of water sources for your pets. Other than that, they seem relatively healthy. No fleas but they do have worms and they received their first round of dewormer.

Huge shout out to The Scratching Post Cat Cafe for coming out and helping with this intake. It took us about 4 hours from the time we picked them up to the time we were done. We document everything - medical concerns, weights, treatments, etc and that takes a lot of time to enter into our database on top of getting pictures. But everyone is all settled for now.

For now, they are all together but we will be separating the litters into different foster homes. The moms don’t seem to mind co-parenting for now 😻

These guys are going to cost over $4k to fully vet. Thanks to your donations and a few adoptions, we have about $650 towards our $4,000 goal. Please donate to help these kitties 🙏🏻

Update: $335 raised so far between venmo and facebook!

‼️ DONATIONS NEEDED - $4k ‼️

This weekend, we are taking three momma kitties and their babies. Possibly a fourth and her babies as well. That’s 20+ cats and kittens all from the same home.

This is the result of ONE intact male in the home with intact females. This is a perfect example of how things can spiral out of control so quickly. And the nursing moms are at risk of getting pregnant again, too.

This certainly isn’t what the owner wanted but they didn’t understand how fast things would get out of control. They are heartbroken to give these guys up but it’s best for everyone involved. We offered to get a couple of the adults fixed and returned to them. We have taken cats from this family previously and all of them were friendly, happy and healthy. They were clearly well taken care of and loved. We just want to help and if we can place some of these cats in a home that they already know and love, then that’s what’s best for them but we need to set them up for success.

Vetting all of these cats is going to cost a LOT. Each cat costs about $250 to spay/neuter, fully vaccinate, combo test, microchip and give dewormer and flea/tick preventatives to. We need to raise roughly $4,000 to fully cover everyone’s vetting.

Please donate. This is the biggest intake we have ever done and we need your help more than ever before 🙏🏻

Over 3 years in foster care 😿

Petunia has been in the rescue for over 3 years and the only reason we can think of is because she needs prescription food. That’s it. That has to be the only reason…

Petunia is a very loving cat. If you enjoy sleeping with a cat cuddled up in your arms, she’s your girl. She often doesn’t give me enough space to sleep! She also likes to park herself on my lap when I am playing video games or watching tv.

She can co-exist with other cats and some dogs. She is often bullied by my cats, not the other way around. Petunia can be sassy so her new home needs to be able to give her space when she is feeling overstimulated. Despite this, she does do well with strangers and kids.

Petunia has Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and as a result, she needs a special prescription diet. She only eats wet food and we are prepared to give her adopter 3 cases of EN wet food so she’s set up for success. She only eats one can per day.

Two years ago, we paid for a dental which resulted in most of her teeth being removed. We also brought her to Rochester Veterinary Eye Care for cloudiness in one of her eyes. It was determined to be Idiopathic Uveitis - inflammation with no known origin. We did some tests to rule out some different causes but everything was negative. The specialist said there’s nothing that we have to do and that it’s not bothering her.

Reasons why she will make the purrfect companion:
1. We have had her for a long time so we know what her true personality and medical history is
2. We have paid for some of the most expensive medical treatments: dental, eye specialist consult, vaccines, bloodwork, etc.
3. She’s a total sweetheart. Loves to cuddle and play
4. Not aggressive with other animals
5. Extremely photogenic!
6. By adopting her, I will be able to take on more fosters so you’re not only helping her, you’re helping future fosters in need

Petunia’s adoption fee is waived! Please adopt this sweet girl or share this post far and wide so we can find the purrfect home for her 🙏🏻

Charlie had his enucleation last week and is doing very well!

About a month ago, we took him to the vet because he was excessively urinating. Testing revealed he had a UTI but during his physical exam, the Dr noticed something weird about his left eye. There was a white lump over his pupil and there was a red circle around his pupil as well. Another Dr looked and agreed, it looked weird.

They initially recommended trying steroid eye drops, however, Charlie is semi-feral and there’s no way we would be able to give him eye drops 2-3x daily. The next recommendation was to remove his eye and send it out for testing. We could have left it alone but he is FIV+ which makes him more susceptible to infections and certain cancers. We didn’t want to take a chance so we chose to remove his eye. It was sent out for histopathology and we are still waiting on the results.

Charlie is recovering well. His bill wad roughly $1,200 (there was an error with our shelter discount). We were able to afford it, thankfully, due to recent adoptions but we need to rebuild our safety net. Please consider donating to cover future vet bills. We have several kitties who need to be spayed/neutered and could really use the funds to cover those!
