Meet Keiko!
Some of you may know that I (Amie) work at a local vet. This sweet 2ish-month-old boy was dropped off at the hospital as a stray and he was on death’s door. Before examining him, when the Dr saw him brought to the treatment area, she thought he was a DOA. He looked lifeless.
The finders could not financially afford to treat him. The hospital ran diagnostics - bloodwork and ultrasound. His combo test was negative. Bloodwork indicated an infection and ultrasound ruled out FIP.
The diagnosis: dehydrated, emaciated, upper respiratory infection, eye infection, covered in fleas and a large load of intestinal parasites.
Prognosis: good. Just needs some TLC
The Dr knew I was on intake hold but asked if we could help. I couldn’t say no to his sweet face so now, Keiko is at my house receiving supportive care and he’s doing very well. We do not know how long he was in that condition but we are very thankful that someone found him and brought him to the vet.
It’s unclear if there is any sort of brain damage or consequences from the condition he was in. He seems a little “off” but that may go away with time. He does not understand litter at all which is strange. Even strays typically instinctively know what a litter box is. He will instead go on his food 🤢.
I do not know if he came from inside or if he was a stray. I don’t suspect abuse (at least, not intentional abuse). I believe he was accidentally trapped somewhere away from food/water for an extended period of time. For example, he may have been trapped in someone’s garage. I do not think he was a feral kitten since he enjoys being pet and around people.
He does not have a lot of energy, yet. So please keep Keiko in your thoughts and prayers. While we hopefully don’t need to run further diagnostics, supportive care costs still add up. Fluids, meds, rx food (Critical Nutrition), baby food, etc. Any donations are appreciated 🙏🏻
