On 13 June 2023, we welcomed baby Silmarillion (aka Rillo) into the world ✨️ he's a chestnut c**t, likely to go grey.
Luna had him at around 21:30, but needed a bit of help. It was day 349, which is slightly later than the average 340 days, but well within the normal range. He's a big boy with particularly long legs, so it was no mean feat for her! Luckily she was in very good hands. We did get the vet out to check her when she was struggling to get comfortable for a while afterward, and in no time she was ready to focus all of her attention on her beautiful baby boy.
They are both doing very well and he is already such a character. We are hoping and praying that he continues to get stronger and that it's smooth sailing from here. We absolutely adore him ❤️
P.s.
We are Tolkien fans, and Rillo's sire is Silvester. Luna's registered name is Pearl of Phoenix, so we were inspired along those lines. The Silmarils are the jewels made of pure light and the Silmarillion is the collection of legends and stories around them that create Tolkien's world (Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, etc). That's how we settled on his name, and we haven't come across another horse with anything similar, so it really stands out!
