I am 10 years old and it’s Thursday afternoon the day the bookmobile comes! I have been asking my mom all day if it’s time yet. ⏰ It was a long day waiting. I read all 4 of my books from last week. I always get a Trixie Belden book I don’t know what I will do once I read them all! I don’t like Nancy Drew as much as I do Trixie. I kinda feel like we are friends. 😃 I read a book called The Box Car Children this week I loved it! When I read a book it feels like I am there. It is hard to stop reading and go back to my life. Even if I am all alone I will never be alone when I have a book to read. My Daddy told me that. I don’t see him much he lives in another city and has a new family 😞
It’s time! My mom calls out. My sister is going to come with me this week she doesn’t always come along. Sometimes I have to take her books back when she doesn’t want to come and they are heavy! I like to go by myself anyways. She is 8 and doesn’t read as much as I do 🤷‍♀️sometimes she doesn’t even read the books she picks. That’s really dumb! Then why pick them? Why even go? Well this time she is carrying her own books. She’s my friend sometimes but sometimes she makes me so mad! We fight with words a lot! Sometimes she pulls my hair or scratches me with her fingernails. It seems like she always gets me in trouble when she’s the one who started it. 😡 I hope when we are older we can be good friends….❤️
The bookmobile parks 2 blocks past our school down a big hill next to a corner store. It’s 6 blocks away but doesn’t seem far at all. Sometimes we have to wait to get on because there is already 6 people on there. Once we get down the hill I see it! It’s really big and blue and says Racine public library Bookmobile on the side. I am happy we are the only ones today! We climb up the 2 steep steps and go inside….the smell of books is everywhere! 📚 I love that smell! The air is cool inside. I can hear the hum of the motor and the black carpeted floors shake a little when we walk.
Not even 10 min later my sister already picked her books and is telling me to hurry up! I am on my first book and still looking in the Trixie row. I tell her she needs to give me time. The library lady says 🤫 shh. The quiet rule ugh! We have to whisper. We can’t argue on the bookmobile cause who can argue with whispers certainly not us 🤭. I choose my 4 books and we head home. I cannot wait to start reading. I know I will finish all 4 of my chapter books by next week and cannot wait to get more! When I grow up and have kids I hope they love books as much as I do! I cannot wait to read to them ☺️
