Support in Rescue, Rehab, Rehome through patient&professional behavioral and emotional intervention.
(1)
At Project PAWS we wish to create an organization as well as a community that allows an owner, rescue, shelter a safe, anonymous, and non-judgmental environment to discuss the potential re-homing of their beloved canine. It is during this decision that a family must make one of the hardest, but in some cases, best decisions for both their family and canine companion’s future. With Project PAWS, we
are a stepping stone in providing support in rehabbing and re-homing tougher cases that deserve patient & professional behavioral and emotional intervention. We are a New York State registered Non Profit 501c3 organization.

We are learning so much more about our sweet girl Poppy as she’s moved to her next step in training - lifestyle work. We have learned she is terrified of a TV, coffee maker, and well many day to day things we do in a home. The first three months we spent working to decompress, relax, and formulate 2-3 consistent patterns for her to feel safe. We worked and are still building trust. This past week we took her into a more “home life” foster with Lora to help her begin her next step in rehab. Every day we learn a few things as well as see her progress!
We are so happy to announce that our senior boy Buddy has been ADOPTED! With an amazing and incredible new home with loads of afternoon naps awaiting him.
In just a few sessions of guidance and LOADS of patience, support and calm understanding this girl is actively jumping into a car crate AND a car. Only a few months ago she was beyond terrified of them ( and still is when they are moving - that comes from living on a highway for over 5 months)
What does this mean for a dog like poppy? Well for her this opens the opportunity for more adventures out and about. It means we don’t have to restrict her environment. It means we don’t have to socially pressure her to pick her up or load her via crate to take her places.
This for her, is a HUGE step in a good direction as it will allow her to learn further how to live aside a human companion. As Poppy genetically is independent and does not seek much from humans this was further enhanced with her past trauma. We are working hard to show her a space where we will work with her - this has comprised of NO OBEDIENCE at all. It has simply been patience, time together learning each others movement and behavior, understand pressure, and giving as well as celebrating every single tiny thing she does that may seem so small. For her confidence and resetting her nervous system will take us MONTHS to do, and husbandry items such as getting in a car not only builds her opportunities but allows her to make the choice, to feel accomplished and to build confidence and trust in her handler through cooperation.
Another incredible moment with this girl.
Welcome Buddy to our adoptable residents!
Buddy is a 14 year old male Lab mix seeking the full life of retirement. He is sweet in every single way you can think of. In good health and simply loves to be loved by his human companion! Please help us in sharing him with the doggo work in finding him a beautiful home!
His adoption fee is our senior adoption of $100 this helps to cover his veterinary care.

These babes found their next adventure!
We knew they wouldn’t be with us long - but found perfection.
Good morning world. 🌎 We hope you have a beautiful day.

This look looks good on you poppy ❤️
What adventure will you tell us about this week?!
Love at first sight ❤️ Our two sweet boys found love tonight with their foster to adopt homes.
Today was a REALLY REALLY big day for our CTP residents. These pups have been attending a 13 week program at our local corrections facility where they live and are assigned to a handler. They work diligently and are, we hope, are adopted!
Congratulations sweet sweet BaLoo, Radar, Oliver from Project Paws and Queen Pheebs and Yuki from Barks and Rec Boarding and Daycare
This week we are so happy to announce that our organization has only one long term resident and one short term resident. What does this mean for us - it means that in the future - the very near future we will be looking to welcome new residents into our programs. Whether they will be short term or long term we will wait to see.
Project Paws Inc, allows owners, organizations, trainers, etc a safe space to discuss the rehome of a companion that may need training intervention, a different outlook, or a foster-based environment to flourish. Our short-term residency allows residents 3-30 days to decompress, transition, or foster to adopt into their next chapter. Our long-term residency provides an in-depth behavioral intervention to some extent. We only take on 2 at a time as our these residents typically take many resources to accomplish and will remain with us until we know and see they are ready for their next chapter. Our short term residents typically received tune-up training and work closely with North Country Paws for Obedience and their staff to ensure we know they are ready for adoption. We are proud of the last year and our residents, our fosters, and our board. Thank you to our community for everything you have done to make our organization such an amazing and unique opportunity!

Simply pure, whole, and free-spirited. I don't wish to conform you, to change you, or to make you something you are not. I wish to learn you, to connect with you, and to simply be with you. To share with you a world that we can live in together in harmony that allows you and I to understand one another deeply and fully.
To return to our most natural state -
Thank you Britt for capturing her for all that she is.

Be amazing woody! You will do wonders with these girls!
Who remembers the Handsome James!?
Here is a little update on what his adopter's have to say:
He’s amazing! One of the sweetest, most loving dogs I’ve ever met. Very friendly to every human and dog he’s ever interacted with and he’s always happy. Super big goofball though, my mantra when it comes to him is “no thoughts, just vibes”
“Another pic to show how derpy he is. Can’t emphasize enough how glad I am that I adopted him “
And we say congrats to the sweet Melanie! We are a bit jealous as this girl will be local yet heading to CO in other months 🤩🤩
POPPY IS ON 🔥 FIRE 🔥
Over the past week we made a few adjustments to Poppy’s training plan. After being with us almost four months - progress was being had and it was time for phase three - transitions to real life and moving away from just existing. This plan has included utilized three conditioned cues we’ve worked hard on with her
👉 Let’s go - we are moving forward together
👉 Box up - go into your crate (she loves a little too much currently)
👉 All done - slow down and relax what your doing ( useful for her frantic behavior)
We have have spent time giving her lifestyle cues in regards to the “what” we are doing when we do it such as we are getting up now, we are going inside/outside, and time to go potty etc.
We have worked to keep ourselves neutral in many ways as well as the dogs she interacts with. Her handlers have all worked to build a strong trusting relationship with her while building confidence and boundaries. This has taken many hours of sitting in nature, floating in the pool, laying in the grass, etc. She, as many fearful feral dogs and just fearful dogs in general do not need obedience or to be rushed - they need understanding, they require patience, they require a professional that understand every single moment in which is spent with them! Poppy will remain in our care and training program until we feel she is fully ready to take in the world, BUT also the RIGHT person to fulfill her needs and our requirements enters her life.
We now work to put her in more life-like situations such as moving her to a different location allowing her more exposures, involving her in regular training sessions, allowing her to interact in field socials, pack hikes, household noises and beginning to introduce new faces to her world with positivity yet ease. She will engage in a few new adventures over the course of the next 45 days many of which we hope will lead to potentially more success for our girl!

Pure joy floods our hearts and soul this week as the journey of our Aussie babes concludes and begins with their new families. There are no words for the ultimate rollercoaster of emotions these past 8 weeks have brought us. One thing is certain the community of support is overwhelming. Eat. Play. Sleep. Our two babies are growing fast! Our prayers and support are with their brother tonight.
