Meet one of our newest fosters who is ready for adoption! Hope is a Pit Bull Terrier puppy born on 5/4/2023. She is visually impaired and deaf. Hope and her littermate Faith came to us through another rescue who immediately pulled the puppies and their mother, who had recently given birth, from their local shelter.
Hope would love to be your lap dog! She loves to cuddle and sleeps right by her foster mother. She also enjoys playing with toys and running outside.
Hope is being fostered in LA; however BDRA will transport to an approved adopter within a reasonable distance. Please click here to learn more about Hope: https://blinddogrescue.org/hope, and if you'd like to make Hope a part of your family, please complete an adoption application here: https://fs8.formsite.com/blinddogrescue/form758585118/index.
Please email our Adoption Team at [email protected] if you would like more information about Hope, Faith, or any of our other dogs.

My name is Jessica and I am a volunteer with the Humane Society of Jefferson County and currently also helping Young Williams Animal Shelter (YWAC), based in Knoxville, Tennessee, with finding placement for a special girl, Juliette.

Juliette arrived at YWAC in the spring with one eye, totally blind and with a permanent locked jaw. She can physically eat but she cannot open her jaw all the way. The veterinarian team thinks she got an infection in one of the eyes and it went everywhere. A family adopted her and all seemed well until their adult son moved back home and stabbed Juliette 57 times as well as tried to kill his father. It took 4 hours for the authorities to get into the house and apprehend him. Everyone had assumed the dog had been killed but...she was alive. After receiving medical care for 6 weeks, she was returned to YWAC's custody. Now the trick is to find her the right home. There were a lot of people who "wanted" her but not really for the right reasons. More for the notoriety.

She is estimated to be 6-7 years old and healthy in spite of the history. She is a small Pittie and kind of a goof ball. She does seem nervous and growly towards other dogs however, her original foster back in April said that with verbal cues and time, she did well in her household. That foster is inundated with more dogs since then.

I suggested we reach out to rescues that specialize in serving blind dogs. As a blind dog owner myself (I have 9 so my household is VERY tapped out), I know special handling and knowledge are key to successful guardianship.

Would you all have any opportunities to take her in? I live in Tennessee and by God will take her to you or coordinate with friends to get her. She is back in YWAC and we would like her out of the shelter, in a home, and with knowledgeable people and potential adopters who would WANT a blind dog.

Let me know if you can help and thank you for your consideration,
Jessica

This one-eyed wonder is Rocky! He's 3 years old and loves to play, play, play. Rocky would fit in well with an active family who likes to spend time outdoors on walks, hikes, or even just hanging in the yard. In a previous home Rocky did well living with children and is reported to be housebroken to boot. He likes to play with other dogs and can come on a little too strong when he does, so we think he'd benefit from having some well matched dog friends to hang with in a calmer setting, as opposed to somewhere like a dog park. He's affectionate and loving towards all people, and his goofy personality and antics make it hard not to fall in love! To meet this goober, visit neas.org/adopt to learn how.

Lexi is a Blind, Fox Terrier mix, approximately 9 years old who was surrendered by her owner when she became homeless. Please read more from Lexi's Foster Mom....

The first thing you notice about Lexi might be that she’s completely blind and has a tendency to walk into objects in her path. It won’t take long, however, for you to notice her other winning features: Her tail is always wagging, her feet are always prancing and despite the blindness and frequent head bumps, she’s surprisingly adept at finding the nearest tennis ball.

And while we’re on the topic of tennis balls, let’s make one thing clear: Lexi cannot live without them. She loves everything about fetch, and the limits of her interest have been discovered by no mortal human. She will sniff around the floor until she finds a ball, approximate the location of the nearest human and proceed to rear up on her back legs and tap her front paws on the floor, as if to say “Please, I’ve done my part, it’s your turn!” If you tire of this game (as you inevitably will after many hours of her surprisingly quick retrievals), she’ll be more than happy to spend her time tearing every last piece of fuzz from the ball and then biting the fuzzless toy until it’s in two pieces. Then, she’ll find a new ball. Rinse and repeat.

When she’s finally decided to take a break from play, Lexi loves to cuddle up against her person. She’s a cuddly, kissy dog when she’s not in play mode, and she’s more than happy to receive pets. She also loves chew toys, chewy treats and sunbathing in the grass. She’s a sweet older girl with a lot of love left to give, and she’s looking for an owner who can give her loads of attention and understanding.

Some things to know about Lexi: She frightens easily (understandably so), and therefore requires a home without other pets or small children who could inadvertently startle her and cause her to panic. She wants someone who will stick by her side and not leave her alone very often, so that she can be out and about exploring the space around her and enjoying her golden years properly. While she can manage stairs, she does much better when she doesn’t have to, so a single-story home or a home with stairs that could be blocked off unless she has a guide would be best. Finally, she needs an experienced owner who will keep her safety top of mind and avoid moving the furniture around too often. She’s great at mapping out a space as long as it doesn’t change a lot or gets cluttered — it’s easy to trip when you can’t see where you’re going, so be ready to keep that floor nice and clear!

If you’re ready to make space in your heart and welcome a unique special needs dog into your home — along with immeasurable joy and lots and lots of squeaky noises — apply for Lexi today!

Biscuit

🔸3 year old cocker spaniel
🔸no small children pls read below

Biscuit is a 3 year old, neutered male, cocker spaniel that is full of sunshine and zest for life! He had to have surgery to remove his right eye, but he doesn’t let that bring him down.
Now he's a bouncy, happy-go-lucky pup that loves other dogs, playing with stuffed toys, and getting belly rubs! Due to his limited vision, he can a bit reactive to strange sounds and sudden movements, and will bark when startled. Recommend that he goes to a home without young children or small pets (he does like to chase ducks and cats at his foster home).

Our dogs are available for adoption every Saturday at Ramsey St. Petsmart, 4721 Ramsey St, Fayetteville Nc, 28311 from 10:30 am to 4 pm.

T.A.R.A's adoption donation is $150 for dogs and $100 for cats. Each pet is spayed or neutered, up to date on all shots (if too young to receive shot when the pet is 16 weeks old), micro -chipped and comes with an optional 30 days of free pet insurance offered through our micro- chip company.

Say hey to Famous Amos! Famous was found abandoned in a Walmart parking lot and has been with us for a couple of months. He came to us a matted mess that was in desperate need of some TLC. He is a Yorkie mix that is around 12 years old. Even though he's a little older in years, he is an active and high strung guy. He has mature cataracts in both eyes that leave him with extremely limited eyesight. He seems to see shadows of things that are moving but has been known to walk into a wall or two. He would also benefit from a dental cleaning. Famous has since been groomed and neutered while being with us and is ready for his furever home. If interested in adoption, please call us at (704) 784-7387 option 0.

AVAILABLE:

Everyone meet Bumper! Bumper is a 6-month- old BLIND Aussie boy with all the s***k and energy of typical Aussie puppy. No need to feel sorry for him though, he’s under the impression no one can see and is just as able as any other puppy and happy as a clam.

Bumper is a very smart boy and has learned a lot since joining his foster home. But with most puppies, needs daily reminders of his manners. Bumper loves working for treats and has most of his basic commands down, along with a few fun tricks. Although, he thinks this whole “stay” thing is for the birds.

Bumper LOVES walks and hikes and walks well on a leash but can pull when he’s excited (rightfully so) so he’s been learning how to heel on a leash, which is coming along nicely.

Bumper also enjoys car rides and meeting new people and dogs. He settles well when in public until there’s a new friend to meet and all bets are off. His energy level is on the medium to high side and he does require mental and physical exercise before laying calmly in the house - you just have to be a bit more creative to wear him out!

Bumper gets around houses and yards just fine and like any other Aussie, loves to get his energy out with zoomies (within his safe zones). Some of Bumper’s other favorite activities include wrestling with his foster sister, chasing bounces of a tennis ball, digging holes, and playing in the sprinkler (this boy loves water).

Bumper would do best in a home with a fence (so he can continue to safely enjoy his zoomies!), a playful and confident canine sibling, herding breed experience, and no young children.

Bumper is crate trained and knows how to ask to go outside for potty breaks if he’s familiar with the home. He is UTD on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on preventatives. Bumper is currently fostered in Charlotte, NC. His adoption fee is $350 and an additional $200 neuter and training deposit that will be refunded upon proof of neuter and enrollment in a training class by one year old.

If you are interested in Bumper and ready to give an energetic, differently abled puppy all the love, attention, and training he deserves please visit our website for adoption procedures and application. If you are a previously approved applicant and are interested in Bumper please contact the adoption committee.

It's been a while since I've posted about how our one-eyed dog is doing. Buddy, in the middle, is finally doing well. He is 14 months old and we have figured out his anxiety triggers (he has a lot) and solutions to make him feel calmer. My other two dogs still don't love him but we do. We give him a very mild sedative every morning which helps him through dinner-time. We have background music on ALL DAY to drown out any noises from outside. Last but not least, he stays pretty glued to me all day long so it's a good thing I work from home. He LOVES his crate so he does well when we go out. He is a 40-pound floppy dog who is just the sweetest. I'm so glad we chose to foster, then adopt him.

SC folks, please read and if you can find it in your hearts to help please reach out. I'm speaking from experience with a one-eyed dog...love them and their quirky personalities. :-)

❤️He may be deaf and only have one eye but Darren is a champion porch sitter and world watcher! This old guy loves nothing more than a good scratch and ALLLLL the cuddles. He has one speed - SLOTH. 🦥🦥 If you are lazy and couch surfing is your favorite sport (no judgement here- Darren is my spirit animal!) then Darren is the best friend you’ve been searching for.❤️

Leon

desperately needs help. The shelter is absolutely no place for this fragile senior. He's calm and loving, very easy going, spends his days just laying down and sleeping. At this moment he has very little appetite and also he might be deaf. He will be able to live happily with a good quality of life if given a chance.
The shelter staff thinks he's about 12 years old and he weighs 55 pounds.
