Tonight’s thoughts while cutting peonies in the rain:
I used to think heat moved peonies fast—but this rain? Holy water from above. The pink field went off this evening. I couldn’t help but laugh, having flashbacks to the 2010 era when hot pink and animal prints were back in style like the 80s. Makes sense now why over 1,000 of these bright pink roots were planted back then.
Here’s the thing about pink: it’s made a comeback. People, women especially, are reconnecting with it. My sisters joke and call me Tour Guide Barbie when they visit—because I’ll go on and on about plants, places, and random facts. If you want unsolicited info about the flora under your feet, I’m your gal.
But for now, we’re offering peonies—hoping they bring you joy, beauty, and maybe even a little fellowship in your day.
Over the weekend, we held a little bucket sale. Here’s a handful of things people shared with us (paraphrased from memory):
• "Oh wow, I’ve always wanted to plant peonies."
• "We were thinking about growing some!"
• "I’m visiting from the Midwest—this is my third time seeing you. I have to bring one home!"
• "How do they open?"
• "Those tight buds open up to this? Wow."
• "Here’s extra—pass more around, they’re beautiful."
• "I used to have peonies at my old house. I’d fill every room with them. I need a couple of each color."
• "How many would you recommend to fill a vase?"
• "So glad to hear that farm is being worked again."
• "We can’t wait to see what y’all do with it."
• "Can we come see it? Can we pick our own? Do you do tours?"
• "How many is too many?" (lol.)
The folks who’ve come out these past few days? All ages, all walks of life. Truly, everyone to enjoy peonies.
Peonies speak for themselves.
You just have to plant them… and let God water them.
