*Texas Rescue Network doesn’t intake dogs, we focus on prevention through providing education and resources to our community and by helping other organizations with their life-saving efforts.*
With many local fosters having dogs in the double digits in their homes and adoptions at an all time low, fostering and adopting our way out of this problem is feeling like a bleak solution.
Unfortunately the city of San Antonio is so swamped with calls they are not even able to respond to all of the critical bite cases that are reported, how can we expect for them to make time for dogs like these two?

Thousands of dogs are born on the streets every year in Texas and thousands of dogs will die on the streets.... Never knowing a warm bed, a human touch, or a life without starvation.
While so many of us are quick to blame the high kill shelters, the people of Texas are at the root
of the overpopulation problem. Both lack of awareness and denial of the issue have plagued our streets with strays.
Texas Rescue Network is taking an upstream approach to this issue through education,
community involvement, and subsidized spay/neuter and chipping events.
Ways you can help us be a part of the solution:
💚 Sponsor one of our future spay/neuter clinics or donate at www.texasrescuenetwork.org/donate
💚Volunteer at one of our Photos for Fosters events or at one of our school / community workshops as a Pup Protector
💚 Spread the word through likes, comments and shares

Spread joy this holiday season! Help us expand our reach when it comes to education, boosting owner retention, and increasing access to vital resources like education and spay/neuter services.
Your contribution makes a lasting impact on education and the well-being of pets in our community. 📚🐶

With the severe dog overpopulation issue we are facing, Texas rescues and low income families are feeling the burden financially. Sometimes something as simple as a bag of pet food can allow someone to hold onto a pet just a little bit longer until a more permanent solution can be found.
To donate supplies, please email us at [email protected] for instructions 🧡 It takes a village!

One of the many shining stars that made an appearance at our last monthly Photos for Fosters event in San Antonio, Texas 🌟
Rem is a 2-year-old mixed breed available for adoption through @sapetsalive and is up to date on shots and spayed. Unfortunately she had pups at San Antonio Animal Care Services and they did not make it 💔 Although her journey was not easy, you would never know it.
Rem is easy going, very dog friendly (and polite!), enjoys exploring, and loves meeting new people - she has so much love to give 🥰 She is currently working on potty training.
Apply to adopt her here:

A 2019 study conducted by San Antonio Animal
Care Services estimated there were 35,000 roaming dogs at any given time in our city. Now the estimate is closer to 80-90,000 roaming dogs. Rescues and shelters are beyond full. We need upstream solutions.
Please donate to prevent more unplanned litters from being born: givebutter.com/trn 🙏🏼🧡

Please bring your dogs inside during this freeze 🙏🏼 This guy was abandoned on the side of the highway for who knows how long and he kept shivering despite being in the heated car for an hour.
If you hear your neighbor’s dogs barking, encourage them to bring them inside, be their voice. It is against the Safe Outdoor Dogs Act law of the state of Texas to not provide adequate shelter during extreme weather.
Dogs are domesticated, they RELY on us.
Don’t let them down.
We need your support to fund responsible pet ownership education programs and provide more resources within Texas. Anything helps 🧡 givebutter.com/trn

4.6 million dogs and cats entered shelters in the US in 2021. Five states alone account for half the number of cats and dogs killed in the US, with Texas in the lead.
Texas law deems dogs as property, which means that it is against the law to spay or neuter an owned dog without the owner’s permission. This, combined with the lack of resources, enforcement, and education increases the number of roaming strays and owner surrenders/abandonment.
We cannot continue like this. Rescues and shelters are exhausted and beyond capacity. We need change.
Join us in finding solutions 📧 [email protected] you do not have to be local to Texas.

5 REASONS TO FOSTER 🐾
🧡 When you foster, you are not only saving the pet that you are fostering but also opening up space for others so that they too, might have the chance of being saved. Due to pet overpopulation, many shelters have to euthanize due to lack of space.
🧡 When your foster dog is in the home environment you will be able to learn about them and help modify any behavioral issues that come up to make them more adoptable.
🧡 Personalities can really shine in foster homes! That means dogs will have a chance to show who they truly are - quirks and all. Cute pictures and videos in a home environment make expectations more clear for adopters.
🧡 Fostering is temporary! Which means you are not responsible for the dog long term - perfect for those who plan to be moving soon like military or college students that cannot commit to 15 years but still want a furry companion. Typically the shelter/rescue sponsor will pay for all vetting.
🧡 It’s rewarding 🥰 Watching a dog blossom and heal is a beautiful thing. Fun fact: when cuddling with your foster dog you also release oxytocin, a feel good hormone that can help with depression.
If interested in fostering, shoot as a message and we will share the rescues in your area in need!

Animals are at a risk of hypothermia and death when temperatures go below 32°F. Please advocate for animals that are stuck outside in this weather - whether that means talking to your neighbor, reporting a negligent owner, or providing temporary housing for a stray - animals need all of the help they can get during this time. The Safe Outdoor Dogs Act passed in 2021 gives harsher penalties for those who leave their dogs in extreme weather. Let’s do better Texas 👏🏼

Our pictures showcase each dog’s pawsonality and help connect them to the right adopter 💓 The faster dogs in foster or boarding can find placement, the more dogs can be saved from high kill shelters. Our next photoshoot will be on December 4, 2022 from 3:30pm-4:30pm at McCallister Park in San Antonio 🐾
