When you are starting to train agility some of the early skills just seem so far removed from what the end result may end up to be. It involves a lot of shaping behaviour ( where the dog thinks and makes decisions on their own) vs luring a behaviour ( where you lure the dog into position with quick results but you are doing all the work ). The ultimate goal of any agility training is to have the dogs perform skills with a lot of drive and confidence in what you are asking them to do . Confidence and clarity will increase speed . I have to admit I had SERIOUS doubts about these methods until I trained the weaves to my dogs that way. The end result were dogs that know their job when they are sent to perform the weaves . They do it with speed they know their job and they are confident to power thru.

Thank you to all of you that have encouraged me to jump into this venture of providing some basic dog training services in the Sussex area.

To all of you who do not know me, I have been involved in training and competing dogs in agility for the past 8 years and have been lucky to have had some great coaching and support along the way. I have taken a number of online training courses such as "Recallers" , "Handling360" and "Agility Nation" for the past 5 years and have helped friends and family with their dogs over the years. I have also had some "crazy" fun learning and teaching my dogs to be involved in mushing sports such as canicross, bikejoring and ski joring.

Not only are there few services available in our area , but to be quite honest some of the more traditional Puppy classes I have taken were quite boring. My plan is to offer something a bit different and hopefully a lot more fun for you and your dog.

Another issue a lot of people have asked me about is the lack of training available for dogs that are a bit older and do not fit the "puppy" class age requirements . There has been a a large influx of rescue dogs into our area that are deemed too old for the traditional "puppy" classes and have no great place to start their training journey. My plan is to start by offering a Beginner Good Manners class for pet dogs as well as a Beginner Sport dog class for those of you that may be interested in becoming involved in a variety of dog sports in the future , since training for both groups is just a little bit different . Both classes are available for dogs regardless of their age.

I am located on a 100 acre farm property just outside of Sussex and classes will be held on my 100x100 fenced agility field ,although location can be negotiated based on interest and availability of other suitable locations. All training will be game based to jack up the fun for both you and your dog .

Just to be clear, I am NOT a DOG BEHAVIOURIST , I do NOT train aggressive dogs or those with other serious behaviour issues. You will need someone specifically trained in that area but I can help you find great trainers in our area that can help with those issues

Follow this page for updates on classes offered and other fun activities. Please feel free to reach out anytime with any questions or training needs that may interest you.
