Happy Earth Day from all of us at Hello Ralphie! Ready to celebrate with your dog? Here are 3 easy ways you can celebrate today.

1. Go on an eco-friendly hike: Find a nearby park or nature reserve that allows dogs and plan a hike. Remember to carry a reusable water bottle, bring biodegradable p**p bags, and avoid littering along the way.

2. Make DIY eco-friendly pet toys: Instead of buying new toys for your pet, consider making some yourself using recycled materials. For example, you can make a tug-of-war toy by braiding old t-shirts or create a treat-dispensing toy using a cardboard box (make sure to remove any tape from the box first!).

3. Plant a tree or create a garden together: Planting a tree or creating a small garden in your backyard is a great way to celebrate Earth Day with your dog. Let your furry friend help you by digging holes for the plants or sniffing around while you work. Just make sure the plants you choose are safe for your pets to be around!

Are you curious about whether fruit should be included in your dog's diet? While fruits like blueberries, bananas, apples, and pears can provide a variety of vitamins, minerals, and fiber, they shouldn't make up a significant portion of your dog's diet. Rather, most vets typically say they should be considered a treat and make up no more than 10% of their diet.

But not all fruits are safe for dogs to eat. Grapes and raisins can be toxic and cause kidney damage, while cherry pits contain cyanide and can be harmful if ingested. And while citrus fruits aren't necessarily toxic, they can cause upset stomachs in some dogs.

So next time you're thinking of giving your pup a fruity treat, remember to do so in moderation and only after consulting with your veterinarian. And if you suspect your dog has eaten something toxic, don't hesitate to reach out to your vet for help.

Dental care is just as important to our pet's teeth as it is to our health! Without regular care, your pet's teeth can accumulate plaque and become hard calculus, which can cause serious dental diseases that spread to other organs.

Prevent costly and painful health issues by brushing your pet's teeth 1-2 times daily with pet toothpaste and toothbrush. If brushing is not an option, try dental food or treats.

Don't forget to schedule annual dental cleanings with your veterinarian to catch dental issues early and if you want to learn more tips and tricks, check out our Dental Care article linked in our bio!

How much water do cats need? The general rule for cats is 4 ounces per 5 pounds of lean body weight. This means that a 10 pound cat requires approximately 1 cup per day. Cats who eat wet food may drink less, while cats who eat dry food may drink more.

Rather than pulling out a measuring cup and giving a precise amount, keep in mind that a healthy pet can generally regulate their own water intake.

The cat parent's daily task is to keep the water bowl clean and filled with fresh water. Fill your cat's water bowl to about the same line every day, and you'll notice if they're drinking significantly more or less.

If you are concerned that your cat is not drinking enough or is drinking too much, consult one of our Hello Ralphie veterinarians by making an online appointment.

Our Tail

Being a pet parent brings endless joy to our lives, but it is not without its frustrations. Taking your pet to receive its wellness visit or for a sick visit can be both time consuming and expensive. Felicity, our founder, struggled with this reality when her cat Tiffany was diagnosed with cancer and needed regular veterinary care and checkups. Felicity had to request to work from home and take time off during the day to take Tiffany to the vet.

While in-person visits are absolutely necessary for some veterinary care, we believe that some of this care can be given outside of the veterinarian’s practice. So, we created My Virtual Veterinarian.

My Virtual Veterinarian connects pet parents with veterinarians for video and chat appointments. Through our platform, pet parents can access their primary veterinarian, or find a different veterinarian who is available for virtual veterinary appointments.

Our mission is to help pet parents access virtual veterinary appointments so that pets are able to receive the care that the need, when they need it.
