There are a lot of things to consider when bringing a YORKIE into your family. Believe me, YORKIES become family, no questions asked! The more welcome they feel the more their little tails will wag for you.
There is the question of whether you want to bring in a little boy or a little girl. As with most things, people have their preferences. In my opinion, boys sometimes, really, more often than not, get a bad wrap. Many people believe that a female will make a better family member. It is believed that the little girls will be better behaved, have better manners, will be easier to potty train, won't lift their leg and mark territory, display sexual behaviors, etc.
Some people think that only the males want to be the boss of everybody or the "alpha" in charge.
Just to be clear, a little girl is just as likely as a little boy to have these behaviors. As a matter of fact, usually it is the girls who determine the basic pattern of social organization within a family of dogs where the others submits to another lower in the scale without fear of retaliation. In other words the dominance hierarchy in a group of social animals. IT's the girl that will be being the boss of things! Imagine that! :)
A little girl may become more stubborn, independent, and territorial than little boys. Little boys can have more of a tendency to be more affectionate, exuberant, attentive, and even more demanding of your attention. Little boys tend to become very attached to you. Little boys tend to be less moody, tending to be more dedicated and reliable. Little boys are often more sociable than the little girls with the little girls being a little more yappy!
Little boys are also more accepting of other pets, remain playful for years, and take quicker to children. Most boys are easily motivated by treats/food, words of praise and are so eager to please that training actually becomes easier. Their playful nature, however, can make males more easily distracted. The boys are more likely to act silly and more puppy-like, always wanting to play games, no matter what their age. The boys are fun-loving until the day they die, whereas girls tend to be more standoffish and dignified the older they get.
Neutered males rarely exhibit secondary sexual behavior such as marking and lifting their legs or hu***ng. Once the testosterone levels recede after neutering, most of these behaviors will disappear if they ever existed. Some people believe that spaying a male dog early will prevent unwanted behaviors. Please do your research on that. Spaying or neutering your little boy too early can affect his growth and maturity. Spaying your dog too early can also result in health problems later on since her hormones should have some time to work. Early spaying can increase the risk of hip dysplasia, torn ligaments, bone cancer, and urinary incontinence.
Always take some time and research the pro's and con's with issues affecting your Yorkie, whether you have a little girl or little boy. I have both and I love them all the same. My little boy is over the moon in love with me and is very content to just sit with me as long as we can just be together. My little girls are sweet as sugar too but it they hear a noise, they are on it! No one will get close without me knowing.
Have I had some ooops moments with my little boy... Honestly yes. Have the little girls had ooops moments...HONESTLY YES! They're my little children, so to speak... They love me and I take good care of all of them.
