Alex and Oliver had dentals done today. Oliver has had teeth removed in the past and just had a cleaning. Alex lost one tooth and has some pain meds to take for a few days. The vet office LOVES these boys and they hang out behind the counter with them! They fell asleep on the way home.

We received a sighting of Mr. Pibb at Miller Park this morning. He was following the spotter and she was kind enough to walk him home when we gave her the address!

Our dog Mr. Pibb or Peppo has gotten loose. He is a sheltland shepherd. Very long nose with one blue and one brown eye. No collar since he was washed, but is microchipped.

Poor Athena went outside for 5 minutes, ran behind the tree in the yard, and came out with a gash on her cheek. Now she has 6 stitches and has to be in the cone 😪 We aren't sure what she did! I'm going to blame the tree though!

Hey everyone! This is a bit of a long post, but please read all the way to the end, especially if you are interested in adopting!

We're happy to see that we've been getting quite a few people who are interested in adopting. It's great that you want to adopt! But before you think about sending in an application, please PLEASE read what is required of you and your home before we will consider adopting out one of these fantastic dogs to you.

The most important thing we need from potential adopters is this: A PROPERLY FENCED YARD IS A MUST, NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Many of the dogs we get are often dogs who have been through hell. They have been abused and neglected all their lives by humans, and they are not used to being a spoiled house dog yet! They are very scared, and if given the chance THEY WILL RUN AND NOT COME BACK. This is why a properly fenced yard is A MUST.

These dogs are not like a dog you've raised since they were a puppy. They don't know you, so they will be terrified of you and their surroundings at the beginning. They are all wonderful dogs, but they each have a past, and that past is not always pleasant. Even dogs who are owner surrenders from loving homes cannot be trusted not to run away. They are often just as scared as the ones from abusive situations, as they have been ripped away from everything and everyone they knew and loved.

Imagine if you were suddenly plucked from the only home you've ever known and were made to live with complete strangers in a place you've never been before, with no explanation whatsoever. You'd be pretty scared, wouldn't you? It's the same for these dogs.

Not to mention that shelties are HERDING DOGS. They will herd anything that moves. That includes you, your kids, other dogs, cats, scooters, bikes, and cars. If they see something they want to herd, they will run after their target to go herd them! This means they might end up getting into trouble by running in front of a moving vehicle or a bicyclist, or run up on an unfriendly dog. And they may not listen to you if you try to recall them. They can be pretty stubborn sometimes!

Shelties are amazing dogs. Once they get to know you, you will have a best friend for life! But those first few months will be the hardest for them when it comes to adjusting to a new life with you. It takes a lot of time and patience, but it's definitely worth the effort!

If you are interested in one of our dogs, that's great! But please make sure you read up on them first, to make sure that the specific dog you are interested in is the right fit for your home. Some of these dogs need to be only dogs. Others need a companion! Some are great with small kids, while others aren't so much. Some love cats! And others absolutely hate them. Each individual dog is just that: an individual, with their own wants and needs for a home.

Wednesday was vet day for sweet Alex and Oliver. They are both now caught up on vaccinations and got clean bills of health, though they will both need their teeth cleaned. They are also both a bit tubby!

Alex and Oliver are settling in quite nicely. They haven't had any accidents in the house, and sleep nicely in a kennel. They are very good with children too!

Oliver and Alex all ready for bed! They are very sweet boys. Alex is very friendly. Oliver is a bit more shy but not terribly. Both jumped in the car, ready to go on an adventure together.

We have two new boys in! They are a bonded pair, meaning they must be adopted together. They are brothers. Oliver is 8 years old. He is the one with no white on his forehead. Alex is 6 years old. He has the full white stripe. After traveling to their foster home they had a trip to the spa to get brushed out and nails trimmed and a bath!

This is Maizy. Maizy has healed from her spay several weeks ago. But you may notice on her front right leg there is a green bandage. It's called a bitter bandage I think. We finally had to wrap it because she would not stop licking the site where her IV had been. So we could not take her out of her cone! We tried doggie socks, but she took them off. We tried regular bandages but she took them off. These apparently taste bad enough to leave alone!

In other news, Maizy would still like to be adopted soon! She wants to be an only dog, and she is being fostered with dogs that really annoy her. She doesn't seem to mind cats so much. They tend to ignore her and are not in her space. Adoption fee can be negotiated.

This goofy girl (Athena) is still up for adoption. She is very dear to us. Must have a completely fenced in yard as she is a flight risk. Needs a very caring home. She will be afraid at first but will eventually be your devoted best friend. She is such a lover. We would love to keep her but she probably needs to be an only dog!
