Hooves 🐄🐂🐃🐐🐑🦌🦒🦙🐪

Ruminants hooves are keratin just like our fingernails. Trimming is the single most important task to help prevent lameness, soft hooves, smelly hooves, and hoof rot. Checking the animal’s feet regularly and frequently gives you the head start you need to care of a bad hoof before the condition spreads.

In this case, Luna’s hooves were way overdue, and they were impeding a proper movement of the legs.

We trimmed them! And, we gave her some needed love. She is back running around in the farm :)

Surgery on a Sugar Glider

This female sugar glider came to the hospital after her tail got entangled in some toys/ropes hanging in her cage.

The tail was fractured in several parts and the tissue was already necrotic (lack of blood perfusion causing ischemia of the tissue).

We rushed her into surgery to perform a tail amputation at the base of the tail, where the tissue was healthy.

She did great! She went home with pain meds and antibiotics.

Kinkajou 💙

Beautiful animals not such a great pet 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Because they are not tame, kinkajous do not make good pets, no matter how cute you might think they are! Kinkajous have a painful bite and can be destructive to a home in the middle of the night, when they are most active.

Cockatiels 🇦🇺

Cockatiels are far less demanding than the larger parrot species. In fact, they are relatively easy to take care of, and, if well socialized, make very loving and amusing pets.

They can live up to 20 years. 😊

Are you thinking about getting a parrot?

At EXOVET we encourage you to get a cockatiel instead of a larger bird like: macaws, amazons or cockatoos. They are beautiful ( but loud) birds, but also the most commonly unwanted after the owners realize the amount of work, time and space they need.

Gloster canaries are beautiful pet birds. Due to their unusual (and quite funny) appearance, this species has gained popularity over the years.

Dr Pérez, brought this beautiful gem for an annual check up and nail trim.

Have you ever seen a pink parakeet? 🦩💗

Bourke's parakeet, Bourke or "Bourkie", is a small parrot found in Australia and the only species in its genus, Neopsephotus. It is approximately 19 cm long and weighs around 45 grams. They are definitely a gem!!

Recently we had the amazing privilege to have an avian vet house visit! EXOVET VETERINARY SERVICES] provided outstanding care for a group of gaia residents that desperately needed veterinarian care. It’s extremely challenging and stressful to take so many parrots to the vet one at a time. Dr. Torres was definitely heaven sent. Wet Tail in Hamsters

“Wet Tail”, named from the obvious sign of wetness around the rear end and tail of the hamster from diarrhea, comes from a bacterial infection that is generally brought on by stress. This stress could be from a change in environment such as bringing a new hamster home to a new habitat, too frequent handling, housing with another hamster, keeping in an unclean habitat or not providing a habitat where your hamster feels secure.

Primates 🙈🙉🙊

We see all kind of monkeys and provide medical care for them. But we DO NOT recommend them as pets and we encourage people NOT to get them!

Monkeys are social animals, they do not enjoy to be in a cage or alone, they have very specific needs ( diet, environment, social activity and interaction), and once they reach sexual maturity they will show aggression and frustration.

If you are thinking on getting a monkey or you already have one, do not hesitate to contact us to guide you on how to take care of them!

Aural Abscess 🐢

Ear abscesses, also known as aural abscesses, are common in turtles and tortoises and are usually caused by bacterial infections. The infection begins in the mouth and moves up into the ear canal through the eustachian tube, which is the ear’s opening into the mouth.

Surgery is required to remove the hardened pus from an aural abscess, but this is rarely life threatening.

Rabbit 🐰

Coccidiosis is a common and worldwide sporozoan disease of rabbits caused by the protozoan parasite Eimeria ep. Up to 25 species of coccidian have been observed in rabbits, with two main forms seen, hepatic and intestinal.

This baby came to us with diarrhea, after checking her f***s, she was diagnosed with coccidia. We encourage a physical exam and a yearly f***l to check for parasites in your pet rabbit.

This beautiful Owl was found outside with a broken wing. After checking on it and taking some radiographs, We decided to send it to the wildlife center for surgery.

We are hoping for a full recovery so he can go back to the wild soon!
