Prince and I safely taking a blind bend.
You have to treat walking your dog like driving a car.
Look a head read the walk look for others that might not be paying attention and ready to react.
Treat blind turns like stop junctions exercising the control and basic fundamentals you train for. Never forget to thank others and return kind turns.
A good way to train recall is to call your dog(s) between you and another whilst on a walk. You can extend distances and even hide for them to find you.
An active training walk where we would stop and do short heel work and positions.
Here Ruby is comfortable remaining where I left till I want her to move on command taking the shortest route to return.
CONTROL IS NOT A DIRTY WORD.
You can add little exercises in to routine walks just to mix it up. Little and often adds and your dog learns without it being a formal set up training session.
I like to exercise control/obedience and if I don’t intend to carry on I release him with ‘ Finish’ which means go and be a dog again till I talk you directly again.
Sounds muted due to the wind 💨
Barry has loved this mornings walk in the snow
Up and out with Barry on this lovely morning 🐾🐾🐾 #happydogs #dogsofinstagram #Dogs #bordercollie #frostywalks #cold #winter #dogwalker #dogwalkersofinstagram #gooddogs #adventures
Looking after Barry boy for the next couple of weeks 🐾
Remaining in the down with a recall with a little twist.
The many moving parts that add up to do something like this would surprise you once you de compartmentalise it. Lots of bricks make a big wall 🧱
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch for training or walking assistance with Matthew for training or jess for walking.
Some heel work with Hattie whilst she’s in season making the most of the 1 on 1 walking.
Proofing Dukes obedience around prey items.
This week I have been teaching owners how to play with their dogs and stimulate them. We take the dog up and we bring it down by the end the dog wants to give you the high value object back to go again.
We don’t shy away or surpress drive we harness it.
Less than a minutes training on a 3 mile bike ride is enough. Challenging the mind when physically under stress. Training is easy when working in hype and adrenaline but take the dog out of it and still see if it understands a few basics.
Who knew filling up the swimming pool would be so difficult, Bella loves the hose 😆 🐾 🐾 🐾 #happydogs #dogsofinstagram #labrador #summer #hose #labsofinsta #crazydog

I love this video of some of my own dogs. Fun, fitness, recall all in one moment.
These guys help on lessons as they basically blank other dogs which allows nervous/pro active aggressive dogs or dogs with bad recall to work around a dog(s) with a calm level of energy being given off.
Using dogs in the street/park to tackle issues at the start is useless. As you will be doing great and then a person chatting on speaker phone not paying attention with a dog at the very end of a retractable lead doing what it wants barking at everything just blows the dog in trainings mind. Set them up to win not fail then it can be made harder.
It’s hard to believe this time last month Ruby had been poisoned and we were looking at loosing her. Now she’s back helping with training like nothing had happened.

It’s great to let my dogs have a good blast and express themselves.
I will soon be running group walks which will focus on dog interaction and freedom with basic obedience interspersed.
Merlin loves to bring his toy on a walk so we incorporate some fun games with it. This is what we did today and he loved it

Confidence breeds confidence and the less you speak the more they listen. 2 golden points in having dog(s)
5 young search dogs in training with a clients dog they are socialising whilst for filling two very different breed type functions. The spaniels are pinging about looking for muck and trouble whilst the GSD is over watching and then started to monitor how many even came out of a bush not moving till the last one came out. Bot breeds enjoyed themselves to the fullest whilst not ‘ playing together ‘ in the obvious sense.
