đâ𦺠Whoâs serving who? đâđŚş
âThis was a critical training experience. This pup, a very expensive service dog, was unable to perform his job because the original trainers didnât do theirs.
We stepped in to ensure he could fulfill his purpose and meet his ownerâs needs. This is why itâs so important to get training done right the first time.
Your dog has unlimited potential if youâre willing to put in the work. Let us help you unlock that potential.

𧏠Genetics do have a role đ§Ź
Whether itâs Temu or Petland, donât gamble on a âdiscount dogâ with mystery genetics. Sure, that cute face might get you through the checkout, but bad genetics can lead to ruff times ahead. đž
Genetics matter. They shape your dogâs potential for greatnessâor gremlins. Especially if youâre looking for a family dog, donât roll the dice. Find a reputable breeder or rescue to make sure youâre starting with the best odds for success.
Because no one wants to pay for a bargain pup... and then spend twice as much fixing everything else. đđ¸

đComparison is the thief of joy.đ
As I write this, knowing many might not read it, I want to share something I often struggle withâcomparison. I catch myself comparing my life and work to the polished, curated versions of others on social media.
The truth is, the reason I became a dog trainer was because I saw so many integrity issues in the industry. From the condescending âhigher-than-thouâ approach of some âscience-basedâ trainers to the constant highlight reels others post, the reality of dog training often gets lost.
This leaves dog owners feeling stuck and frustrated. But the truth is, lifeâand trainingâis full of ups and downs. Dog training isnât overly complicated: itâs about inputs and outputs. Reward what you like, correct what you donât.
At Sky Soldier Dog Training, I believe in showing the reality of trainingâthe successes and the strugglesâbecause thatâs where hope lies. When you see the process, the progress, and even the mistakes, you realize youâre not alone. Without you, the dog owners, none of us trainers would even have jobs.
So, enjoy Kimoâs second duck walk video. Watch the mistakes he makes and how he recovers from them. Remember, nothing in this world is perfectânot dogs, not life, not even our social media feeds. And thatâs okay.
Have fun with your dogs. Train your dogs. See you out there!

đŚThe duck walk đŚ
Kimo has been quite the dog to train with. Not because he is all to problematic. Not because his behavior is dangerous. Or that he himself is dangerous. Because heâs like a little kid.
I often tell my clients how itâs more than just dog training. I find training dogs to be a reflection of how I carry myself. A reflection of how I respond to things. Do I respond or do I react?
Kimo has been the perfect dog for that. Heâs not aggressive. Heâs not assertive. Heâs a dope. Heâs child like. He doesnât get things the first time you ask him. Sometimes he forgets what heel means.
Heâs not quite sure what birds are but he thinks they should play with him. Sometimes we look at raising kids/dogs as creating obedient robots. That would never disobey or stray.
But the reality and the beauty is much more complex. Itâs taking the essence of this dope and helping him to fall into a more reliable setting. Not changing who he is but changing his perspective on taking direction.
Today we set out for Home Depot but found that it would be too much for Kimo and too much for me. So we hit up this local park and gave it a go. We hit some snags and we made some strides. Thatâs life. Love it or hate it. Just enjoy the ride. âď¸âď¸

đ Day 3 & 4 đž
Letâs talk training progression!
For **Place to Place**, I got this gem of an idea from my good buddy @thegooddogtraining . It adds an extra challenge and variety to the traditional place command. Instead of just sending the dog to a single spot, it teaches them to move between multiple places on commandâflexible, precise, and fun! The goal is to ensure the dog can confidently follow instructions from anywhere, not just in one context.
Next, we tackled the **Down command**, which is far more important than it might seem. Some argue that obedience isnât the solution for complex behavioral issues, but I respectfully disagree. Obedienceâwhen approached with patience and consistencyâis the foundation for trust, safety, and structure.
Think of it this way: just because certain parenting styles arenât working doesnât mean parenting itself is ineffective. The same applies to obedienceâit isnât optional or suggestible. In the world our dogs live in, hesitation or inconsistency can put them in danger.
Teaching the Down command can be challenging, but with perseverance and clarity, dogs like Kimo rise to the occasion. Kimo worked hardâletâs give him his props!

đž **Kimoâs Incredible Progress!** đž
In just two lessons, Kimo has made amazing strides. During the **initial lesson**, we focused on addressing his resistance and fear, starting with a prong collar and taking plenty of breaks to build trust.
By **lesson two**, we introduced low-pressure e-collar training. The results? **Less resistance, more willingness, and a happier, more cooperative dog.**
This is the power of balanced training in the hands of someone who knows what theyâre doing!
