Phoenix is doing great. She is such a pretty girl. She is very sassy when I go to get her out of her enclosure, but is a sweet heart to handle once I get her out.

Keeping a new animal can be a learning process for anyone

But there's learning off of a base of at least minimal research, and there's "I just rescued this from [pet store], what species?"

My inbox/comments are open if you have questions about the care of crested geckos, or any species I've kept. I'm willing to help. Yep, even if you didn't get yours from me.

I am less willing to help when you ask for assistance rudely, or argue with advice given. It is not the fault of the person who is trying to help you that things your animals need cost money.

This is a fun hobby, but it's not super cheap. Don't skimp on what your pet needs. Impulse buys are only a good idea if you have the space, time, money, and knowledge to keep the animal alive.

Plants are cool too. Don't have time to research animal care? Get a plant. They brighten a room, make oxygen, and don't scream when they die.

So today I brought home Basil Ratbone. (Basil like the actor Basil Rathbone, not like the herb. 😂😂)

Dear sweet Basil was adopted from Bairds Nest Exotic & Farm Sanctuary, like his big sister Phoenix. He is a very sweet boy. I got a couple of quick pictures before tucking him in to his enclosure to settle in for a week. I weighed all three just to see where we stood on weights. Basil is 792g, Monty is 1748g, and Phoenix is 2261g. Monty was just over 500g when I first bought him. 😲

It has been a while since I posted. I had some health issues for a while, and during that time I lost Neville. I don’t really want to go into it, but I blame myself even though no one else seems to blame me for it. It made even looking at this page too painful so I just packed it away and pretended it didn’t exist. But… I am ready to get back to it. Monty and Phoenix are doing great. And it looks like they will soon have a new brother. Watch this space for updates.

That feeling when you have a case of ”The Sads” and you really want to spend a half hour with your noodlebabs giving you a neck and shoulder massage but you just fed everyone yesterday and it would be terribly irresponsible husbandry to handle them until tomorrow.

Today has just been a roller coaster of emotions. Heartbreak then joy then heartbreak then joy... But my ever calm and soothing reptiles have helped me calm the wild swings of emotion. Can you believe how grown up Neville is getting? He was just a tiny BB when I brought him home. Now he is so handsome and growed up.
