Lily's Second Chapter: Foster-to-Adopt and Rewrite Her Story 📖💕

Meet Lily, the brave mama who gave her all to raise her eight adorable puppies at the Ontario SPCA Sudbury . Now it's her turn to be cared for and loved as she embarks on a remarkable recovery journey. Lily needs a special foster-to-adopt home where she can regain her strength and be nurtured back to health. Due to her needs, Lily would thrive best as the only dog in the home, where she can receive all the attention and care she deserves.
She's a resilient soul with a heart of gold, and she's looking for a patient family willing to help her flourish. If you're ready to open your heart and home to Lily, you'll not only be gaining a loyal companion but also playing a pivotal role in her second chance at happiness. Could you be the family to give Lily the love and care she deserves? 🌟🏡

If you have any questions or would like to meet Lily please reach out to us at the Ontario SPCA Orangeville and District Animal Center at 519-942-3140.

Our dog kennels are completely full. We are at the point that we need to consider doubling up dogs in kennels or placing new animals in crates to make space for any new dogs coming into the shelter. The stakes are high and unfortunately when we are at or over capacity, we need to start having difficult conversations regarding animals with extended medical or behavioural needs and whether or not we have adequate time, space and the budget to meet the needs of these animals.

It’s stressful for both the animals and staff. We never want to get to this point but the sad reality is that there are just too many dogs coming in on a daily basis and our adoptions have slowed significantly. Dogs who would normally be adopted within a matter of days or weeks are sitting for months and some almost a year without finding homes. We need more animals to go into, or stay in homes, in order to keep the animals in our care safe and healthy.

One of the immediate ways that you can help is by adopting a pet from the shelter. Not only does this give a loving home to an animal in need, but it also frees up valuable space and resources for other animals in the shelter. You can view adoptable animals on our website by visiting https://www.brampton.ca/EN/residents/Animal-Services/Pages/Adoption.aspx

If adoption is not feasible, consider fostering a pet temporarily until a permanent home can be found. This provides a home environment for the animal, reduces overcrowding in the shelter and helps socialize the pet for future adoption. We will provide all food, supplies and medical care. Fosters provide love and a safe, temporary place to stay. Find out more or sign up to foster by emailing [email protected].

We're asking people who find friendly, healthy pets to make efforts to get the pet home without them entering the shelter. Most lost pets are found very close to home. They have a higher likelihood of being reunited with their family if they have a safe place to stay in the neighbourhood they were found for just a short period of time. If you find a pet, or have questions, please contact us at 905.458.5800 or [email protected].

If you are unable to help directly, consider spreading the word about our space crisis. Share our social media posts, tell your friends and family and encourage others to get involved. Every little bit helps and together we can make a difference in the lives of these animals in need.

Have you heard of a scratchpad? 🐾
If you have a dog that doesn’t like their nails trimmed, it’s a great alternative. Your dog scratches at the pad and while doing so, their nails get trimmed!
They are widely available. 😊

What is a slow feeder bowl?? 🐾

If your pup eats their food very fast, this might be the bowl for you! My Jack Chi was a voracious eater who would gulp her dry food down then end up choking and coughing some of it up afterwards. We got her one of these and its a lifesaver. The maze and elevated ridge patterns on a slow feeder bowl are designed to slow down your dogs quick eating habit in order to prevent gulping and choking. They are available at all pet stores, Walmart, Amazon, etc.

Many of us find it difficult to balance life with a new, energetic puppy. Keeping our pups happy and STIMULATED indoors is a struggle. Here is one fun, easy game to keep your pup occupied and challenged!

All the game requires is a muffin tin, some yummy treats, and some tennis balls (or other tennis ball-sized toys). Simply deposit a treat in each cup of the muffin tin, cover it with the ball or toy, and wait for your dog to sniff it out. Your dog will need to use their nose to locate the treats, their mouth (or paw) to remove the balls, their eyes to spot the remaining toys, and their brain to focus on the remaining treats. Excellent for engaging your energetic pup!

What mental stimulation games do you play with your pup?🐾
