We would like to announce Bailey joining the OOPD staff. She has been helping behind the scenes for years training and handling for our competitve trials, including confimation, scent work, and fast cat. As well as curriclum, socialization and expsoure. She has developed many skills through the years she will utilize and apply to our puppies. She helped day and night with our tree nut litter, bottle feeding and every emergency visit. Plus she is Hazel's guardian, and mom to Lennon who frequently appears on video spreading her hugs and joy.

Her skills will most specifically be applied to puppies that don't leave at 8 weeks and are still awaiting their forever families. She will focus on exposure & socialization, grooming, manners and basic training. She will be sharing their progress right here on our social media. The first 16 weeks of the pups life are so critical they get all of this and I'm excited to see her help each puppy reach their full potential.

Mystic update.

We were given 2 options to help our 5mo poodle puppy with her broken leg.

1st option is to repair the break. It comes with a 20% risk of failure. The repair involves reducing the fracture (because yep, the bone moved) and placing pins. This gives her the best chance at a normal recovery and quality of life. If for any reason this repair fails then we are still left with option 2

Option 2. Is an FHO. Removing the head of the Femeral and with rehab, relying on the muscles to maintain the joint. Mystic is set to be a large girl and it just really isn't ideal.

She is out of surgery. The surgeon is happy with the procedure and the results. We were lucky to miss both growth plates, 1 by a narrow .5 cm. We are lucky that the break resulted in 2 pieces and not several. That it wasn't in the joint and that she is young. There is the possibility that trama was still done to a growth plate, and we will just have to wait and see as she grows.

For Mystic it's lots of crate time and a few short potty walks. THIS is why crate training is so important. I don't religiously crate my dogs, but I make sure all my dogs can be crated. Groomers, vets, traveling, dog shows, vacations and injuries can all require crate time. We will be sure to give her lots of enrichment. Chewy, snuffle mats, brain training. She still needs to be engaged.

In 2 weeks she will be evaluated for rehab. We brought her into our program as a show prospect and I'm hopeful that with this repair and rehab that it's still possible to watch her strut her stuff around the show ring.

Vanilla Bean is from our Dixie & Nash ice cream litter born New Years Day. He is 16 weeks old. Fully vaccinated. Crate trained and dog door trained. He has been working on his manners and has been introduced to the leash. He is doing well with his grooming practices.

He is the last of the litter waiting for his family match. At 16 weeks he weighs 21 # and is expected to reach 40-45 #. He has been raised on a service dog exposure curriculum. Both parents are fully health tested.

He is a fun and playful pup ready for adventure or a good time with a great off switch. He has a medium energy, is assertive and confident. He loves people, but can be independent and entertain himself nearby. He gets along well with other dogs.

Our poor baby girl!

Mystic is a 5 month old standard poodle that came to us from an outside program. We've been so excited about her future here at OOPD as both a show prospect and as a future mom. Her daddy is a grand champion, #5 in the nation along with a healthy amount of other titles.

Last night she was limping after playtime. I checked her out. No physical injuries, no signs of pain other than she would t put weight on it. She put herself in her crate where she could feel safe. I checked on her a few hours later and no change.

This morning more of the same. She didn't eat her dinner, but wanted to socialize. We kept her in at playtime. Her demeanor wasn't showing me anything to worry about, but I just didn't like the way she was sitting, or pulled herself to a stand. So we called the vet.

Their exam yielded much of the same. No pain responses, no wounds. We decided to take an xray (just to be sure) and to our shock she really did a number. This poor girl should be screaming in pain, she is tough as can be. She broke her hind leg, just below the femeral head. The surgical team at an ortho specialist is working on her surgical plan and will see her at 1pm tomorrow. I haven't been informed of the treatment plan and this will likely end her show carrer before she even had a chance. Don't worry, they sent her home with lots of pain killers and administered an iv med at the office.

As a result, we did get a peak at how the joints come together, and this is what BEAUTIFUL hips look like. We would expect an excellent rating from this.

This is why we send pups home with health insurance. This is why we encourage you to persue continued insurance. This is why we carry a policy on each of our dogs. Im sure the bill will be a hefty one. I'm also sure the finial burden will not be long lived. We will send our receipts for reimbursement, and usually before the next card statement we have our check. This is not our first major incident we've used our policy. I'm sure it won't be the last.b

Today Sherbert is 16 weeks. She got her first groom and is looking good. About 2 weeks ago she entered a fear period, and we are working hard to empower her and help her overcome these new fears. We make sure to give her plenty of time to process and mark her efforts to be brave and explore - "YES!" We took a trip to the pet store and then the tractor supply store. She did great with her leash walking and has such a calmness about her. She is so eager to greet each new person

Sherbert is a future breeding girl for our program. She is from our Dixie & Nash ice cream litter. She is also looking for a guardian family to call her own

We've had the pleasure of pup sitting miss Sophie while her family was on vacation. She is such a delight. She gets along with the whole pack and just blends right in. She is so very go with the flow and laid back! We learned she can climb trees 🌳 😲

Sophie, previously princess Daisy, was our pick of the litter from Stella's Mario litter. She is fully health tested and on track for her first litter of Standard size English Ultra Goldendoodles this fall.

Ollie went out to work on some exposure today. We watched a freight train, We watched shoppers come and go some with pets in tow. We explored the public restroom.I'm flushed the toilets. We explored small confined spaces. We watched the elevator doors.Come and go before finally taking a ride. But the thing that Ollie found to be the most concerning on our adventure is this dress. After thirty minutes of working this dress, surrounding him with the dress while we just sat calmly eating treats and then walking in the circle.of dresses I created, he finally decided everything was just fine.

Ollie the SDiT has made a wonderful match with a future using all his skills. Mobility, phyc and scent. We know this boy will do amazing things.

Oillie our SDiT (service dog in training) is now fully vaccinated. He has been working on his obedience training, and exposure. Now we've also started leash work and public access.

He joined me this weekend as we headed down to Ref Bluff CA with our goldens for a dog show at the fair grounds. He has thuroughly enjoyed watching out the hotel window and was very unsure of the horses we came into contact with yesterday- so today, we will make sure to do a repeat visit - as a horse event is also taking place at the fair grounds.

This boy has such a future ahead of him and will do so much great things for his future handler. We are grateful to be part of the journey.

Walnut or as we've come to call her "wally" got her first grooming today. I loved her beautiful coat, but exposure is so important at this age, and I only know how to do 1 cut. 🫣 she looks so grown up in her big girl haircut.
