Hank came to us from Texas. He was heartworm positive and underwent treatment at Marion Animal Hospital. After getting the all clear, Hank is on the way to meet his forever family in the Twin Cities. Thank you to his foster family and his drivers! This is what rescue looks like!

ADOPTED!! 💗

ADOPTION FEE REDUCED TO $100

Bette is a 4 year old German Shepherd. She weighs about 52.8 pounds. Bette has done great with other dogs. Has not been aggressive. She is extremely shy with people. It took her quite a while to warm up to us. She is doing better. She will now take treats from us. She is not polite when taking treats and can accidentally get your finger. She hangs her head low when she is afraid, She likes to have her ears rubbed. We would only recommend a home with older kids since she is scared.

Bette has been spayed and is current on vaccinations. She tested negative for heartworms. Our vet says she is apparently healthy. Bette's adoption fee is $250.00. If you are a preapproved adopter, just send us an email at [email protected] and let us know. If you are not preapproved, you must complete an adoption application at http://www.secondchancedogrescueofiowa.com. We are located in Prole, Iowa Thanks!

Please do not expect your dogs to know when to drink water or when to come in. That's your job.

AWESOME DOG ALERT: Rogue is a happy, playful girl looking for a family who will be patient with her as she gets to know her new home!

This sweet girl LOVES squeaky balls and is great at fetch. She also loves treats, especially chicken and spray cheese! Rogue might take a bit of time to warm up, but watching her come out of her shell will definitely be rewarding.

Interested in adopting Rogue? Contact [email protected] to set up a time to meet her!

This handsome fella is Clyde!

Clyde is a 4-year-old German Shepherd came to MHS as a stray, and he definitely needed some TLC! After removing ticks, giving him a bath, and brushing another dog's worth of hair from his coat and a professional grooming appointment to top it off, this guy is feeling and looking much better.

He came to MHS with his friend, Bonnie, and they would love to find a home together although not necessary. Clyde is a very even tempered boy who seems to get along with most anyone he meets. He is a typical stubborn shepherd and would love a dedicated owner who can get him motivated to learn new tricks and work on basic obedience.

Today is the LAST DAY of our 50% off adoption special on all animals over 1 year old! Visit Clyde today until 6pm or view our adoptable pets online by visiting our website at www.midlandshumanesociety.org/adopt 🐾

HELP NEEDED: When Cam arrived at the ARL, our Emergency Medical Team could not believe what they were seeing. And we quickly discovered his problems were more than skin deep.

He was in so much pain and fear he wouldn’t let us touch him.

In his kennel, he retreated to the back wall and sat hunched, nose practically touching the ground. His feet cracked and bled with every movement. He could barely see out of one eye because of scabbing. On top of that, he was uncontrollably itchy, to the point where even when he tried to sleep, it woke him and he would chew on his already raw legs in a futile attempt to try to control it.

His pain only fed his fear. He would thrash and bite at any leash or collar. With such severe behavior and medical needs, we weren’t sure we would be able save him, but we knew we had to try.

We began treating his skin infection the only way we could – by tossing him medication in balls of wet dog food. To give him a chance to relieve himself, we used movable panels to corral him outside, avoiding the leash and collar.

We still think Cam has a chance. We hope that as his pain subsides, he will learn to trust us. But his recovery will be a long one.

And that’s where he needs your help.

Your donation today will help give Cam the second chance he needs and deserves and allow us to continue to be there for him and other pets like him who arrive at the ARL with long roads ahead.

Where other people in his life have failed him, you can give him hope.

Cam remains under the care of our medical and behavior teams, and we are seeing small signs of progress. After a few days of medication, he began to look up at us and sometimes even approach the door of his kennel for food. Each day he is learning to trust little by little, and with your gift, you’ll ensure there’s never a time limit for dogs like Cam.

We are committed to giving him a chance, but we can’t do it alone. Please give today and show Cam that despite all that he has been through, miracles can happen. Just click the button with this post or go to http://ow.ly/RhaD50CZydW to donate on our website.

(P.S.: The investigation into Cam's case is ongoing. If you donate on our website at the link above, you'll automatically be enrolled to receive updates on his progress.)
