How is sweet Romeo STILL looking for a home?

Quoting his foster METRO DETROIT MI

This is Romeo, who starts off a bit timid when meeting new people but quickly transforms into a lovable 60-pound lap dog. Watch out, because he's been known to jump with boundless excitement when he's comfortable and happy in your company.

🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Romeo is a smart and energetic pup who thrives on both mental stimulation and physical activity. He's the perfect match for an adopter who can engage his mind with puzzles, training, and playtime, while also keeping his active body happy.

🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Currently, Romeo shares his home with two other dogs of similar size, and he's proven himself to be a friendly and adaptable companion to them. He's even cohabiting peacefully with dog-savvy cats, demonstrating his willingness to make friends with his fellow furry residents.

🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Romeo's love is reserved for those who take the time to earn his trust. He's a bit wary of strangers, so a patient and understanding adopter who can provide him with a secure environment would be ideal. This is why Romeo would do best in a home without young kids, but teenagers and up who can respect his boundaries and give him the space he needs would be a perfect match.

🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

If you're someone who understands that sometimes the best relationships take a little time to blossom, Romeo might just be your perfect match. With love, patience, and understanding, Romeo is ready to become a devoted and cherished member of a forever family. Will you be the one to give him the loving home he deserves?

EMERGENCY NEED FOR A GOLDEN YEARS HOME FOR LUCY. She is available through Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue, based out of Livonia, MI.

Lucy means a lot to me. Of all the animals that have come through our rescue, she is the most special placement I’ve ever done.

Last summer, I was contacted about a woman with terminal cancer who had a cat. I was called and asked if I could help find a home for her cat, Lucy. I went over to this woman’s senior home to meet her and Lucy. As soon as I came in, Lucy greeted me. She immediately ran up to me, purring and rubbing my leg. I’ve never met a cat so excited to greet someone before. She was a very sweet elderly woman, and she got Lucy when she was a 6 week old kitten. She’s now 11 years old. As we were talking, she was reminiscing about the good times she’s had with Lucy. She told me about the silly time when the rug was moved just a couple inches, and Lucy had to sit on the rug to eat her breakfast, so she stared at her until she moved her food bowl to the edge of the rug. She told me the story of how Lucy once went exploring in the closet. She told me many stories about Lucy from her life, and even has a framed picture on her side table of her from when she was a kitten. She told me how Lucy has always loved to sunbathe on the windowsill. She told me about her favorite game with a ball, but her smile faded when she said she isn’t physically able to play with Lucy’s ball anymore. She said she still plays with Lucy’s wand toy, which she loves. Lucy really has the spirit of a young cat—she loves to chase the wand and get some zoomies. When you play with her, she gets the big eyes, shakes her tail and pounces on the toy. This woman said she can’t live without Lucy. She has been in her life for 11 years. The way Lucy looks at her is amazing. She says her name, and Lucy looks right up at her like she’s the sun and stars. They absolutely adored each other. She told me she wants to go before Lucy does…it really hit me hard. She told me when she passes, she wants to know Lucy is in a good home. This was a very hard situation for this woman. She absolutely adored Lucy, the cat she has owned for 11 years. Lucy has lived her entire life with her. I told her that she can hold onto Lucy as long as she likes, and when she’s ready, to give me the call.

One day, I got the call. She took a turn for the worse overnight. I drove right over. Hospice workers were already there packing up her things to transfer her to a hospice facility. I gave her a big hug and said my goodbyes. She cried as she said goodbye to Lucy. Lucy looked at her with those big, green eyes of hers. We both knew that Lucy knew what was going on. I promised her I would find the perfect home for Lucy. In the hospice facility, she quickly slipped into a coma and passed away a few days later.

After spreading the word about Lucy’s story and searching far and wide, I did find the perfect home for Lucy with another elderly woman who lived alone. She really wanted a senior cat to be her companion, since she is very lonely. This quiet, golden years home is exactly what her late owner wanted for her. When they met, it was love at first sight. They bonded quickly, and Lucy became very attached to her. She called me to give me updates about Lucy and tell me stories about her. I know her previous owner is still looking down on Lucy. Her new owner gave her the same nickname, “Lucy Lu.” Lucy wakes her up at the same time every morning, and sleeps on her feet or her windowsill, just as she did before. She carried on being an amazing companion for a lonely woman.

She has been in her current home since August of last year. Unfortunately, her owner has fallen severely ill. She has been in and out of the hospital. She is unable to keep Lucy. She absolutely adores her, and she said it’s breaking her heart because they’re so bonded. Lucy needs another golden years home where she can live out the rest of her life as a loving companion for someone.

Lucy spends her days sitting on her lap cuddled up, and sunbathing on the window sill. Lucy is such a sweet, social and spirited cat, and she has many years left in her. Lucy needs to be in a home where she can live out her golden years cuddled up happy in someone’s lap with a nice windowsill to sunbathe on. She is not a fan of other cats or dogs. She loves everyone she meets, and has been very adaptable when moving around. Her previous owner said even when she has moved, Lucy has always settled right in by her side. Lucy is a very healthy cat. She has a history of urinary issues which has been controlled with a daily medication, but other than that she’s very healthy. She’s declawed in the front. She’s spayed and up-to-date on all of her vet care.

Ideally, we would like another senior to adopt Lucy to be their companion. She is so happy to be cuddled up with someone. She will be 12 in August, but still has several years left in her. Please help us find Lucy a forever home.

Metro Detroit

Pirate is a sweet male 3-4 month old Australian Cattle Dog / Heeler that loves to play with others. He loves to be around his people. His current favorite thing is to cuddle up with his foster and rest his head on their shoulder. He would do best with a fenced in yard and a playmate. Based on his breed we are guessing his adult weight will be between 35-50 pounds. He is good with other active dogs though he is wanting to chase (or I am sure from his point of view herd) the cats in his foster home. He came from a hoarding case so is still working on potty training but is picking up on his leash manners quite well and walks well on a loose leash. He had his first outing to the pet store and enjoyed meeting new people there. The Australian Cattle Dog is a herding dog originally bred for herding cattle over large areas by nipping at them. They are highly energetic and have an independent streak but bond closely to their family. Please be aware that this breed then transfers that energy for herding to anyone in the household; other dogs, cats, and even their human housemates if not fully trained and even then, will sometimes herd them. Metro Detroit

Sweet Tofu is a gentle, soft and very cuddly little girl- the perfect combination of sweet and mellow. A gentle tone and soft words will get this pup by your side forever or right into your lap for a long snooze. Gruff voices, yelling and sharp commands are likely to send her running in the other direction.

While we are not sure of her breed mix (maybe lab with a bit of shepherd or hound dog in there somewhere?) Tofu tends to be more reserved and cautious around other dogs (so far). So careful introductions to friendly new puppy friends may be needed to build her confidence around them. Once she settles in with them, though, she is happy to romp and play and chase (with the occasional wrestling match thrown in for good measure).

If you are specifically seeking a fun plug-and-play pal to take with to busy, off leash dog parks, Tofu is not likely to be a good match. With her more reserved and gentle nature, you will want to be sure that most of her interactions with new dog friends that she meets will be controlled and friendly. (Something that is will not be possible in a busy dog park setting. )

So invite over your favorite friends and their mellow pups for playdates or plan to enjoy off leash parks when they are not busy or mostly empty and she should have a great time!

Better yet, have even more fun taking this girl on some agility related adventures or long hikes and watch her ears perk up. She loves climbing and figuring out new, fun and athletic puzzles.

Tofu has met the pet chickens and a non-reactive kitty in her foster home and seems to take them in stride with no big reactions.

She is currently working on going potty outside, but this is a work in progress and will require consistent attention to master. She also is learning to sit nicely and wait for her food and to keep 4 paws on the floor when she wants attention.

Because Tofu doesn’t know her own size and strength, a family with kids older than 5 will likely be the best fit for this sweet gal. She may even love a home with another dog to play and romp with. Living situations that come with breed, size or noise restrictions will not work for Tofu.

All of our foster puppies are consistently worked with from day 1 using hand feeding techniques, treat balls with their kibble inside and toys that are designed to encourage them to use their minds smelling and problem solving skills. They love to figure out puzzles and always enjoy relaxing with a good stuffed kong or a frozen licky mat after a long walk or romp outside.

We work very hard to encourage positive socialization and friendly adaptive skills in our foster pups. To the extent they are comfortable and able to handle it, we try to carefully expose them to the sights/sounds of a busy family household in a more urban environment. (This includes kids and people of all types, cats, small animals and backyard chickens. As appropriate, we also introduce them to friendly neighborhood dogs and people, car rides, different textures and surfaces and other busy environmental stimuli.)

HDDCR requires a spay/neuter contract by the adopter if puppies and kittens in our care are too young for sterilization. This is a form the adopter signs at the time of adoption, confirming that they will get the pet spayed/neutered by a certain date. We will hold a $50 deposit on top of the adoption fee until we receive proof from a veterinarian that the dog was spayed/neutered. The $50 deposit will then be returned to the adopter.

Application can be filled out on www.happydaysdogandcatrescue.org

15/05/2022

Metro Detroit, MI

Kimchi, (we think he may be a lab mixed with something else large like possibly a Shepherd or Great Dane) is just a big bundle of love and enthusiasm. (Emphasis on the BIG.) So far, he loves everyone who gives him a chance to say hi and just wants to crawl in your lap and convince you that that is where he should be. He is also a big kissing machine and relishes playing and exploring outside and chasing after toys. He really appreciates hanging out with people and is not one to be happy when left on his own for a long time.

This boy enjoys chasing and wrestling with his littermates although he does NOT like to share treats or bones with other dogs (toys seem to be fine) so care will be needed to temper this behavior as he grows older and bigger. (We just avoid leaving bones around and feed him separately from the other dogs and have had no other issues. He is fine with people giving him treats and food or taking it away from him.)

Kimchi has met chickens and friendly, non-reactive kitties and seems happy to see them and remains pretty chill about it. Because of his size and general enthusiasm/happiness/curiosity level a slow introduction to kitties and other prey animals will be necessary so he learns that he must be quiet and calm around them.

He is currently working on going potty outside, but this is a work in progress and will require consistent attention to master. He also is learning to sit nicely and wait for his food (the love of his life) and, so far, is just a huge, goofy, sweet, happy ball of delight to work and cuddle with.

Because he doesn’t know his own size and strength, a family with kids older than 5 will be the best fit for this boy. He would love a home with another dog to play and romp with. Living situations that come with breed, size or noise restrictions will not work for Kimchi.

Sailor is a sweet 13 week old Australian Cattle Dog.

He came from a hoarding breeder and was not fully socialized. He is a sweet boy that loves other dogs.

He is learning to potty outside but is not sure what he is supposed to do when on a leash. He will need a family that is willing to be patient with him. Another dog in the household is a plus.

Please no young kids since he is nervous.

Breed experience is a plus. ACD's are high energy herding dogs. He will thrive best with access to a large fenced in backyard or with someone that is super active. This breed is not a couch potato.

He is up for adoption through www.happydaysdogandcatrescue.org

ADOPTED

JJ is a sweet young dog with so much love to give. We are guessing that he is between 1 and 2 years old. He is currently 31 pounds and the best guess is he is a Border Collie x Miniature Australian Shepherd mix.

He would love to find his person/family that loves to spend time with him. He enjoys his time outside and will lay down next to you if you are outside. He is good on a leash.

His favorite toys are stuffed toys. He is good with dogs, cats, and kids. He actively seeks out other dogs to play with and would do best in a house with another dog playmate. We think that he spent most of his life outside so he is working on potty training.

Livonia, MI

This gorgeous guy is Barney. He is a friendly, loving guy. He is a Beagle Border collie mix ,we think, that is 2 years old and 30lbs. Barney is a lover and tries to please his person. Barney is active and would do best with a fenced in yard to play in. He does his best with regular exercise and would like an active family. Barney does know how to chill and will also sit and watch TV with you. He is a submissive guy and good with other dogs, and cats with proper introduction. Barney is crate trained, housebroken, knows some commands and walks well on a leash. Barney does have house manners. Someone has obviously worked on training the guy. He does jump up on people when excited which is frequently so will need training for this. He would be okay with children but due to his jumping will need older children. Barney is looking for his happy family. Fill out an application if you think that's you.
