๐€๐ฏ๐จ๐ข๐ ๐œ๐ก๐จ๐œ๐จ๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐ž: Chocolate is toxic to dogs & cats if ingested, causing GI upset (vomiting/diarrhea), hyperactive behavior, muscle tremors, fast heart rate, high body temperature, and possibly seizures. The darker the chocolate, the greater the toxicity.

The raisins or sultanas in these sweet treats can cause GI upset and kidney failure in pets.

Fatty meats can cause GI upset and pancreatitis, so donโ€™t share table scraps with your pets. Ham bones can also break your petโ€™s teeth and pose as a choking hazard or cause a GI blockage.

Easter eggs, either plastic or real, can be dangerous to your pets. Dogs are especially at risk, as they may chew and swallow pieces of plastic egg, causing a possible obstructive foreign body risk which may require surgery. Real dyed eggs can pose a food poisoning risk with significant GI upset if your dog or cat eats them.

Easter lilies are very toxic to cats and can be fatal if ingested. Skin contact with pollen can also be dangerous as your cat will ingest it later while grooming. Lilies not only cause GI upset and potential pancreatic injury, but they can also cause significant kidney damage and failure if your cat is not treated promptly. If you suspect that your cat has eaten a lily, contact your local vet immediately for treatment advice.

Baby ducklings, chicks, & bunnies should not be Easter gifts! Pets are not novelties, and without proper planning and responsibility, many of these animals become unwanted after the initial excitement wears off. An uneducated new owner may not have the correct supplies, dietary requirements, and housing for these animals, and many become ill or die due to improper care. Others are either put up for adoption, escape, or are released back into the wild (where many do not survive as they lack the instincts to thrive in the wild). Protect these adorable animals by taking a firm stance NOT to gift them.

Wishing you a safe and joyous Easter!
