Olivia is just a few months old. When she was born, she could not drink her mother’s colostrum, the first milk that a mother prepares for her children, which is vital for good development and survival. That made Olivia seriously ill from intestinal bacteria. She was in such a serious condition that it was necessary to use three different treatments to help her, and the fight to live was difficult, but finally, she began to recover. Now Olivia is a healthy and happy little lamb that she doesn’t even remember being sick anymore, and she enjoys every moment of the day. One of her favorite moments is feeding time, when she is given her bottle of formula and her alfalfa ration. After a quiet moment, she gets up to play and begins to jump for joy. All animals want to be loved and live happily. 🐕 Bidduzzo is the grandpa of the sanctuary. A very sleepy canary hound who must be "forced" to do some exercise for her own health, because if we don't take he to do some movement, he would be sleeping under a blanket all day. The grandparents like him must be taken care of as much as possible. It is very nice to see how he lives with all the other animals, like other dogs, cats, hens, roosters, turkeys, sheep and goats. Despite having been used for hunting, and discarded and abandoned when he lost two toes on one foot, his heart is so big that everyone can fit without exception. Grandparents like him need a lot of attention and supervision. He can no longer get on and off the couch without help, and although sometimes he manages to do it, many other times he can't, and the risk of falling is high, so we always has eyes on him to help him. One of the basic needs is heat, being so old (15 years old) he needs to be warm in these cold winters. Olivia continues to recovering and gain strength. Here you have her drinking a bottle of milk with a lot of energy, and we love to see her so happy. For now we can say that she has beaten the disease and from now on she only has need to recover very slowly, but we continue being cautious. She suffered very strong pains in her stomach and that made her physically very weak. She is better now but need more days for her to have more energy and vitality. The little girl is more happy but she is still very tired, these days are exhausting for everyone here, especially for she who has had a lot of pain and physical fatigue, she needs time to fully recover once she has overcome the disease. We are with her permanently, we have reduced all other work and we don't sleep to be more dedicated to her 24 hours a day, and we will continue like this as long as necessary. Today is a hard day at the sanctuary. We just knew that Mami, rescued from the streets along with her two children Lisa and Shely, has a Portosystemic Shunt that is seriously compromising her life. She also has a very serious non-regenerative anemia. At this time we do not know if both things are related to each other, but what is clear is that Mami urgently needs a blood transfusion to live. When she stabilizes she will need more diagnostic tests and a very, very delicate surgery that is only performed in very few veterinary clinics and hospitals here on Spain, but the most important thing now is that she receives a transfusion to continue living. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A portosystemic shunt is a congenital malformation that basically connects two veins that shouldn't, preventing blood from passing through the liver (where toxins are eliminated) and thereby intoxicating her entire body up to the brain, which causes serious neurological symptoms and even death. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Last night we noticed that she was behaving strangely, she is usually a very unsociable cat, but she let us touch her without further ado, so today we took her to the vet first thing in the morning. She is so strong that she has hidden every symptom until she felt so bad. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What we need to help her: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The sanctuary does not have enough funds for the transfusion. We need to receive donations as soon as possible to start the process because time is running against Mami. His life was exploitation at the farm, and his destiny was to be death at the hands of hunters after his and mother were abandoned, but everything changed when we arrived and rescued him and his mother.
