Good Evening to All,

We apologize for neglecting our Facebook this year. (2023) It's with a heavy heart that I share both sad and wonderful news.

Shifu and Squish each entered hospice level veterinary care this year as a result of cancer and renal failure. Each of our furbabies crossed the rainbow bridge and we've worked to honor and process those losses.

Subsequently, we had both chosen to adopt dogs that needed experienced and loving homes. First, came the husky/Shepard mix and then came the Newfoundland/malamute mix. We are so proud that both dogs are now well-socialized, trained, healthy, and well-adjusted.

We are opening our books again to new clients, but are holding off on overnight boarding for the time-being given the current canine-flu going through the area.

Thank you to our long-term clients who have been understanding and patient as we've undergone changes.

We've been so fortunate to keep busy!! Clients have been lined up for weeks and it's been wonderful.

Keep us in mind for those pop-ins! We understand you might want to stay late to catch up with old friends, so let us swing by and feed your pets on time, letting them potty and play with people who love them just like you do. 🥰

Thinking back on some of the cuties we've had over the years!!

During the summer of 2017 an older dog was found running loose in Hickories Park. Unfortunately, her homeless owner had passed away. After a several day chase, finally, a good samaritan was able to capture the elusive older dog. She was then transported to the local animal shelter, where I (Sam) had just started working.

A week passed, the older dog showed no interest in people and even less interest in eating food, a second week passed and still no appetite or trust in people. She was losing weight, and seemed ready to give up.

As a new shelter employee, I did not know what to do. Eventually I asked my husband what he would feed his dog if he was homeless. His answer? A McDouble.

Turns out, Squishs' favorite snack ever? McDoubles. After the day of the McDouble, Squish decided I was now her person. The rest is history.

For the past 10+ years a long haired tabby cat has been spotted roaming cemetery hill and the properties at the base of the hill in Owego.

It is estimated that this one male tabby is the father of HUNDREDS of kittens up and down North Avenue over the past decade.

Trap-Neuter-Release programs had been unsuccessful in capturing this anti-social Don Juan. Until summer of 2021 when he met his match in a couple of animal welfare enthusiasts...

We watched as this giant-pawed cat would sleep soundedly as more than an inch of snow would cover his body.

He'd teach kittens to pounce on the hill and gave both of us cut-throat glares.

That is until the summer of 2021 when he got really thin; we both knew the realities faced by outdoor cats and I (Corinne) was financially unable to help. Which is when my best friend offered to handle the expenses and even find the tabby a home. (If I could catch him...)

So, we lured him with wet food and snacks day after day for more than two months. Finally, in August of 2021, while he was eating a delicious bowl of canned cat food I just kind of... pushed him into a cat carrier.

He didn't react.
He stared at me.
In a fit of adrenaline, I took him inside.
I placed the carrier in the empty bathtub and nothing bad happened.
I took him out and realized he was covered in prickers; so I started the grooming process.
It went so well that I doused him in dawn dishsoap and scrubbed his coat.
He must've still been in shock because he let me proceed to clean his ears and trim his nails.

When I finally set him down and realized all we had accomplished I called my other half. Much to my relief he immediately scheduled the cat's neuter and exam. Within two weeks he was neutered, had dental work done, and was given a clean bill of health!

After debating possible names like... Mr. Scruffles and McScruffles The Handsome Boi... a better government name was chosen; Master Shifu.

Shifu met a lot of other cats while living in my foster home; kittens that taught him how to play with toys and grown ups that showed him how wonderful fountains can be.

He still gets confused at times; new people are scary. And, he still can't quite figure out how "hands"... the greatest scratchie and treat giving gift from God to all cats... is attached to hoomans. (Who could have guessed?)

Most recently, he struggled with a urinary tract obstruction and spent a week in the hospital, but he and his kidneys are pulling through.

Sometime during the course of this handsome boy's hot mess of a year I realized I couldn't find him a new home. He was meant to be my cat and he's going to live out his days as my salty scruffly sea pirate.

Our Potty n' Play service might look different depending on the pet. These sweet senior boys wanted their "playtime" to be rubbing their face in the grass while they soaked up some sunshine.
