Mojito had a big end to a long three days! She did excellent in every class, calmly completed every obstacle in the trail course, and has just overall gone above and beyond all of my expectations. She’s been very sleepy all afternoon, and enjoyed a good nap under her fan!

I hope she finds the most incredible home with someone who will give her all of the cuddles she deserves. I know I’ll be shedding tears as we head into the auction tonight, but my heart will soar for her if she is able to find her own person💕

Mojito is having such a great time on day two at the ATFO! She has met a ton of people who give her the snuggles she so strongly desires, gone for a walk around the camp grounds, and is all ready for a nap. We also played in a little swimming pool, which she was not a bit concerned about.

In the last photo, you can see Mojito’s little brother, Ares! They are full siblings!

Mojito being such a good girl while we met a bunch of people yesterday! She handled dogs, kids running, strollers, other horses, a ton of scary looking items at vendor booths, and wasn’t at all worried! Her only enemy so far has been the giant boulders. She simply stops, looks at them, and then will touch them once I touch them. She will walk through puddles to conserve energy if they are in the easiest route to where she is going, but if they’re easy to step around, she will step around them😂

Here is the video of how nicely Mojito loaded to head to the ATFO yesterday! She went on so well we barely had time to video it!😂

The first six photos are of the first and only other time I’ve taken Mojito off the farm in November. The last four photos are of Mojito’s second time off the farm, for the ATFO.

In the first photos, I had not earned Mojito’s trust and set clear boundaries for her. I was not a good leader that day, plain and simple. I then went home, started setting clearer boundaries, and she almost immediately became the horse in the last photos.

In the last photos, despite being in a new place, I still expected Mojito to sidepass in her stall while I figured out how to hang her hay bag. I still asked her to walk beside me, not lean into me when she was nervous. Because I made the expectations at the new place be exactly the same as the expectations on my farm, she behaved the exact same way yesterday as she does on my farm.

She is not a horse you have to fight with. She is not a horse you have to be nervous about. If you’re calm and are a good leader, she’s calm and an incredible follower. It’s as simple as that. She taught me to be confident in myself, because if I doubt myself, how can I expect her to rely on me?

She is not at all the same horse in the first pictures. She now prefers naps, snuggles, and walking very slowly. She has not been the horse in those photos since November, all because I became confident in myself, for her sake, to be a better leader.

I truly can not be more proud of how far this mare has come. She has taught me so much and become the most loyal, dependable, puppy-dog-like horse.

Whoever adopts this girl, you absolutely will have one of the most incredible horses in the world.

Mojito ROCKED her freestyle! She is so chill! She was a bit tired after the rough trailer ride to the show grounds this morning (the road we have to take is 100% sharp curves and 95% potholes) so I decided not to make her do any trotting during the freestyle today. I did end up unclipping her lead rope and she followed me so well!

This is her first show ever, her second time being off the farm since I began training her (the last time was in November), and her first time being around this much chaos. She acted like she’d been to shows every day of her life!

I look forward to these last couple of days with her, knowing she will give it her all no matter what. I have no doubt that her adopter will love her and that she will do great things for them💕

Thank you to one of my awesome Riding Lesson clients for these pictures! God Given Farm

Mojito is being such a good girl today! We did some light groundwork, ran through our Freestyle for practice, and then walked around and visited some people. She ground ties everywhere, and is acting like a 30 year old quarter horse who has been to 1,000 shows already! I am extremely proud of her and excited for our freestyle tonight!

As I clean this muddy mess off this morning, I can’t help but question if I’ve done enough. Have I introduced enough obstacles, saddled her enough times, practiced enough?

But then I remember who Mojito is. Mojito isn’t a horse that needs to do a hundred different obstacles, be saddled a thousand times, and practice until things become absolutely boring. Sure it would help, but when time is limited, horses like Mojito are the best to work with.

Mojito is a horse who will do anything as long as she respects and trusts her person. I trust that while we will encounter things that make her nervous these next few days, she will look to me, and I will guide her through it. I am proud of who she has become and am proud of the bond we have built. I know she is going to give me her heart and do her very best this week, so no matter what happens, she has already won in my eyes.

Whoever adopts this incredible little mare is going to have one heck of a “ride or die” horse. If you can earn her trust and respect, she would go through fire for you.

I thank all of our sponsors who helped us along our journey together.

One of my lesson students came out for a ground lesson today since riding lessons were cancelled after our heavy rainfall last night. We used Mojito!

Mojito did amazing! She did pull her back hoof away the first time it was picked up, but after one time of disengaging the hindquarters, Mojito stood perfectly, even when moving to cleaning her hoof on her bad back leg (the one with scarring).

She stood for a full body grooming, mane, tail, and forelock brushing, an anatomy lesson (which of course included some paint) all for my student. I am very proud of how far this little mare has come!!

After the lesson, Mojito stood tied nicely at my hitching post while I closed the pasture gate, and let me hose her all over with minimal fussing (she just likes to scoot to where her opposing side is against the hitching post while being hosed since she is still building some confidence about the water).

You can send Mojito a gift or donate towards her care! Below is the link to her wishlist of items Mojito could use as her training continues, and you can send a message to this page for other ways you can donate. It’s tax deductible too!

Mojito would like to let her future owner know that she needs her sunscreen! Just a bit of her nose tends to get some sunburn, and if left too long it does get a bit painful for her! While she is never thrilled about it, you can easily apply the sunscreen even when she’s loose in the pasture.

Mojito now vs Mojito upon rescue. Mojito has completely healed from her leg injury and surprisingly doesn’t favor it at the walk, trot, or canter. She has grown so much and become so healthy. Her eyes no longer show fear, but bravery and love. I am so glad this little mare was given a second chance with Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue, INC.

Mojito had a big day! She had her regular visit from the farrier AND received her vaccinations, had her coggins pulled, and had her teeth floated.

This is a massive expense, so all donations would be a HUGE help! If you would like to donate towards this expense, you can shoot this page a message and we’d be happy to walk you through the steps!

She was perfect for taking her vaccinations, no fuss at all. She was sedated for teeth, and she definitely relaxed quite well like the already fairly lazy little mare she is!

Mojito is still looking for her forever person! You MUST apply by August 15th for a chance to adopt this incredible little mare. Mojito is going to be a strong steady partner with the right person, so don’t miss out!

You can apply for Mojito here:
https://horseandridermatch.com/adopt-a-horse/

Mojito is a 3 year old QH x Arab, but she’s got much more QH personality. She is 14.2hh, the perfect height for getting on and off easily!

She is very brave and independent, but has a puppy dog personality with whoever earns her respect. She comes when called and always greets me in the pasture. She ground ties, even to have all four hooves cleaned, loads in the trailer, stands almost perfectly to be bathed (she just wiggles a little when her hindquarters are hosed), stands for the farrier, lunges both on and off the line. She has more whoa than go, and is not phased by scary obstacles or cap gun fire.

If you are looking for your next dependable steed, look no further than Mojito!

Here is the video for Mojito’s first official time carrying a saddle! She ground tied after I tacked her up which allowed me to be able to video as I asked her to take her first steps with the saddle on!

You may notice that she is a bit on the lazier side and takes a good bit of clicking for motivation to move and stay moving, but I think that is a super good thing since it means she is less likely to use up energy doing unnecessary shenanigans!

At one point in the video you see her stop during her first lap after a direction change. As you can tell by the camera, I accidentally stepped too far forward towards her shoulder instead of staying towards her hip, which is her cue to stop. (This is due to me being bad at videoing while working with horses😂). It definitely shows how well she pays attention to my every movement, which makes me very proud of her!

Mojito had an extremely big day today!!! Her first full time wearing a saddle!!

While I had previously placed a saddle on her back momentarily when she first arrived at my farm, I ended up coming to the conclusion that she had some ulcers and chose to treat those and wait until closer to the ATFO to work on saddling.

This morning I called her into the barn from her pasture. She came into the aisle while I was working on setting up for today’s horse camps and decided she likes canopies!

She then assisted me in setting up a table and some chairs before we headed into the arena. Since she seemed to be thinking really well this morning, I went ahead and grabbed a pad, saddle, and girth.

I asked her to walk and trot one lap each direction on a line before I placed the saddle pad on her back. I flapped it around quite a bit, then asked her to walk and trot with it on. I actually had her trot as it bounced back over her hind end and fell off. I like to see how horses handle things falling in case they ever have a rider fall off. Mojito let it fall, stopped, and looked at me as though she was saying “I think you’re supposed to put this back on me now”.

I then added the saddle and her walk with it without the girth. She acted as if she’s carried one a thousand times. So I attached the girth, flapped it around her legs, tied it loosely, and slowly tightened it. She did turn her head slightly to look when she heard the girth straps being tightened, but otherwise stood perfectly calm. She then ground tied while I stepped a safe distance away and took some pictures!

After ground tying, I asked her to free lunge at a walk and trot both directions with a saddle (video will be posted). She was a pro!! I am so so proud of this incredible filly!! She stood ground tied perfectly content as I untacked her too!

Mojito accomplished a big thing today!

We went for a walk around unfamiliar scary things. When she first arrived at my farm, her biggest problem was being led. Whether she just felt playful, confident, annoyed, nervous, anything she would rear and run over top of you. She hasn’t tried that since November, and while I’ve definitely put her through some small tests, today was a very big test.

The entire herd was nowhere in sight. There were hoses, deep mud holes to cross, carts moving around, metal garden fencing rattling, goats sprinting by, fire pits, and so many other things. She lead like a 20 year old dead broke quarter horse through it all!

I then decided to push her even further and lunge her a bit in the middle of it all on our way back to the barn. She walked nicely both directions with nothing more than a very small head toss during her first lap the second direction. Her stops were spot on!

We ended the evening with a bath. She has been getting hosed every evening this week and she has made drastic progress. On day one she allowed me to hose her everywhere, but was uncomfortable standing tied and needed to be able to take a few steps when nervous. Yesterday she stood tied well, but definitely moved her feet a bit. Today she took one step either direction when I hosed her hindquarters, but otherwise never moved at all!! She definitely gave me a look that lets me know she is very nervous about the water, but she sure does try her best, licking and chewing a lot during her bath today!

Mojito got to participate in horse camp this week at God Given Farm! She helped me teach how to lunge on a line, and completed an entire obstacle course.

The kids were given an entire cart full of a wide variety of obstacles, and designed their own course for Mojito to go through.

We started the course with a tarp, which she has seen before and was not at all concerned about. Then we walked through a path of spinning pinwheels. She once again wasn’t concerned. The umbrella was completely new to her, and as you can see she definitely gave it a “look”, but quickly decided she likes umbrellas. We then crossed the bridge to where two of my students were waiting with pool noodles. They both flapped the pool noodles at various speeds, but Mojito was not at all concerned. She does enjoy touching things with her nose to inspect them.

We then moved onto using a rain poncho, flapping it in the wind, rubbing it all over her, and having her carry on her back while being led. After the poncho we did the same thing with a large black garbage back. Neither concerned her at all.

Lastly the students had set out cap guns, so I loaded them with small gunpowder rounds and asked her to stand as I shot them off. She hardly even gave them a glance while they were shot on her left side, and only moved a couple steps and quickly returned to standing still when they were shot off on her right side.

This filly is seriously so brave. Nothing phases her, and if something does concern her she recovers very quickly. I am so proud of her!!
