Project Swizzle for Giving Tuesday:
Our beloved kitten, Swizzle, needs your help. This tiny bundle of joy was born with a rare condition called Pectus Excavatum, which causes the ribcage or sternum to jut inward, pressing on the heart and lungs. This deformity makes it difficult for Swizzle to breathe, play, and grow like a healthy kitten and is often fatal when severe. Without urgent surgery, his quality of life—and even his life itself—is at tremendous risk.
The good news? There is a surgical procedure that can correct this condition and give Swizzle the chance to live a happy, healthy life. Dr. Albin at Veterinary Specialty Hospital, a skilled surgeon who has performed this procedure countless times will use a custom-fitted brace to reshape the chest and relieve pressure on Swizzle’s vital organs, allowing him to finally breathe freely and thrive. His X-ray is in the comments. You can see where the base of his sternum jets into the cavity, pushing up his heart and lungs.
The cost of the surgery and post-operative care is significant, and we can’t do this without your support. The cost of the initial surgery is graciously being covered through our partnership with the Orphan Kitten Club making Swizzle our very first #MightyCat and this is very appreciated and a generous grant of $3000. However, this type of surgery requires several follow up visits where x-rays are needed and additional procedures performed over the 2-3 weeks of wearing the brace to gently but continuously pull the sternum gradually outward until its position is normal. These costs are not covered by the grant, and we expect them to range between $1500-2000 so are pleading with you to help us meet these costs this Giving Tuesday, Dec 3rd. His surgery is scheduled for Dec 4th.

Gia, affectionately known as "Little Miss G Thang," is a spirited firecracker with an indomitable spirit. Despite facing physical challenges, she radiates resilience and joy. Let's delve into what makes Gia truly remarkable:
- **Background:** Found injured in Lake Worth, Gia had a mostly paralyzed hind end. A compassionate citizen reached out for help, and when no one else stepped up, a local bird and pocket pet rescue took her in. Eventually, she found her way to Palm Beach Purrs.
- **Unique Condition:** Gia's spinal cord injury prevents her brain from communicating with her back end. However, her sensational spinal cord generates patterns, allowing her to move-a phenomenon known as "spinal walking." It's an involuntary motor function driven by muscle memory and spinal reflexes.
- **Daily Care:** Gia needs her bladder expressed three times a day, a routine she's accustomed to. She can also be stimulated to urinate, making it easier for caretakers new to this process. Although she can defecate independently, she requires a spacious litter box.
- **Playful Spirit:** Gia's zest for life knows no bounds. She finds joy in everything, even her own shadow. Special needs don't hinder her; she embraces each day with enthusiasm.
