Benny had a visit with Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center this past week and apart from them falling absolutely in love with him, they told us that he qualifies for FHO (femoral head ostectomy) in both hips! Which is great news because it’s an easier recovery, easier procedure and a lot less complications that could occur!

They also got him on new pain medicine (his last pain medicine made him droopy and sleepy) but now, he is SO full of energy and seems so much happier. We can barely keep him still and it warms our hearts seeing him running around like a normal dog should❤️

We will continue to update on his journey and future appointments. Thank you for your continued support!

What a boop worthy nose. 😍

After speaking with Texas A&M again this week, they presented us with their hip replacement package (that included much more information) and it seems they will be able to suit us and Benny much better!

So we have decided to proceed with Texas A&M vs DVSC. Our consultation is scheduled for May 4th. We are excited and nervous to finally start down the path of helping Benny!

Yesterday Benny was scheduled for a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon for May!

After hearing back from Texas A&M, we realized they would be just as expensive if not more. Since it’d be about the same cost, we opted to go with a surgeon closer to us.

We look forward to working with DVSC (Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center)! We will continue to update this page along the way. Thank you all for following along, sharing, and donating to help Benny❤️

We got confirmation today that our Vet is sending the referral for Benny’s surgery to Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital in hopes to get him on the waiting list. 🤞🏻

Update: My wife was able to get him in with our Primary Care Vet for a second opinion today. He agreed with the original assessment from the ER about needing a double hip replacement. We’ve contacted Texas A&M about having him seen and they advised we need a referral from our Vet. So right now we’re waiting to hear back from the Vet.

Information from the Emergency Room visit. The X-rays didn’t show any sign of trauma being the cause so it is definitely genetic. He’s in constant pain because he doesn’t have the tissue or muscle or whatever it is to hold his hip joints in the sockets (it’s on both hips) so they are both in a constant state of dislocation.

He is dealing with the discomfort and pain of both his hips being dislocated 24/7. Without the surgery his quality of life is going to be awful. We can give him pain meds daily but that will only help so much and being that he is so young and his organs are still not fully developed that could cause organs to shut down and fail.

I’m creating this page for anyone interested in following Benny’s journey and/or to show support for him.

Recently we took our 6 month old Australian Shepherd, Benny, to the animal Emergency Room where we learned he has severe hip dysplasia on both hips. Benny has been living with this (unknown to us until now) since birth. He’s never been able to run and play with other puppies or my kids.

The vet basically told us due to his condition, he will either need both hips replaced, costing upwards of $8k per hip (depending on which Vet we go with and if we’re able to get him in with a University Vet program) or let him live his life as he is, and eventually end up living in agony and having to euthanize him.

Benny is a part of our family, and has brought an unimaginable amount of love and joy to us the past few months. Euthanizing him is off the table and not an option for us. Why should our perfectly healthy puppy have to die because he was dealt the short straw in life?

This Thursday we have a follow up with our primary Veterinarian for a second opinion. I will be keeping the page updated on all information and updates on our boy.
