Our oldest resident here at the Asylum got called home today. He reached a fantastic age and we had decided in the week it was time to call it with him, despite how old he looked, he could still sprint around my sofa and jump with the younger bucks...we are so glad he got to go on his own terms...Jon said he was only in the top hammock in the snuggle pile this morning.

Baphoboo wasn't the friendliest of rats. He didn't enjoy meeting new people, hated shows and only tolerated us as his humans. He wasn't a cuddle bug either But he was a rats rat and he was happiest with his boys and that was fine with us...he always accepted new friends to his group with no issues and was firm mad uncle to his all his boys. We never bred with him but he was one of our beloved demons.

He suffered no health issues and it looked like he curled up and went in his sleep. Which is the best way to go I think. He has finally been reunited with his half brothers Beelzebub and Asmodeus.

Sleep tight Booboo. Mind how you go. πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

(Disclaimer: treats should be fed in moderation. Ours all get one a day, usually during free range as this helps me get cute photos at the same time! They DO NOT get multiple treats a day. It's usually the only time ours sit still πŸ˜‚)

Meet:

Zephyr Fairy Ring (day name Champignon) who is a Pink eyed Chestnut.

Zephyr Truffle Shuffle (day name Truffle) who is a Chestnut.

These girls will be part of our Chestnut and Ash breeding plans in future as well as being loved pets. They are incredible girls with amazing temperaments. They are pingy and friendly and love to give kisses.

He is still in his ugly buckling stage and is heavily silvered (hence why we show him in Silvered rather than Self) but he has a nice type and is growing into a nice, friendly, handsome boy.

After a rough few months with the breeding, we are happy to announce the first Ash litter has arrived safely at the Asylum HQ.

Rattie Asylum Dancing Dead (aka Deathbat) has given birth to 10 beautiful eepers yesterday on May 1st!

Mumma is doing fantastic and is a attentive mum while still being a mummy's girl. πŸ˜‚ Babies all have lovely milk bands too. Daddy is Zephyr Enoki.

Our breeding plans for Ash have changed slightly (I will reveal all soon) and after discussing everything with Mary at Zephyr Stud, we decided Deathbat would be the best fit as she also carries Self. We believe this litter will be a mixture of Pink eyed Chestnut (there are 4 pink eyed), Ash and Silver fawn. I am so freaking excited about this litter it's unreal.

I had a amazing day today judging pets at the @nfrsoc Summer cup show. We didn't take any rats ourselves but it was still a fab day cheering our friends on. Here is my Best Pet called Feta. This video shows why she won my heart. I have judged pets 6 times now (3 for MRC and 3 for NFRS) and this is the first time ever my best pet has been a Doe (I am a buck woman normally). Today we attended the @nfrsoc Yelvertoft show. We didn't take any rats with us and we both had jobs (I stewarded normal varieties and Jon was show manager with one of our friends Abi) It was also the marked show so there was 3 different shows going on at once. Despite how busy it sounds, it was a nice, chilled day. Our Story

Rattie Asylum Rattery, based in Anstey, Leicestershire, was founded in 2014 but did not become official until 2015 when our second litter was born.

Our fist litter, born to Elsa and McClane, was only meant to be a one-off as we wanted to breed with McClane. But, as we got more involved in the rat fancy, and with the Midlands Rat Club, we realised our potential and it went from there.

Our Rattery name was suggested by a close friend as we wanted something different and dark and we name our rats along that theme - anything from Villains, Poisons, Mythology, Demons etc. Our family has always called us crazy for keeping rats so we have changed it to a positive in our motto...

Our Love Of Rats Drives People Crazy!
