These 2 days are specifically designed with spaniels in mind, inspired by my Cognition Clinic this week, that consists entirely of working line spaniels, we’ve been discussing them in depth!
This workshop is suitable for all spaniels at any level, they don’t need to have even started scentwork do it at all because we will focus on hunting, engagement as well as search foundations. Also suitable for trailing dogs (although please note it’s not a trailing workshop).

I have a lot of experience working spaniels for search work, whilst also in the shooting field, I feel 2 days where I can focus on teaching and working on their specific needs as a spaniel will be hugely beneficial to teams.

Unique to DDT, we don’t offer any online courses to become a judge.
We want our competitors to be judged and have hides set by people with experience, experience of setting out a variety of odours, of actually training and competing a dog themselves, experience in different search areas and hide levels so that they can confidently and comfortably set up a suitable search area with suitable hides for the team, hides that will challenge them but also compliment the training they’re doing and the level they are at.
Our judges shadow a qualified judge at trials (for free) until we and they feel comfortable to take the lead and then eventually run and judge trials themselves.

UK 2024 Championships! 27th January 2025 will be held in a new unsearched, previously out of bounds area at the Stunning Blenheim palace! If you’ve won an element, been placed high in trial or received a diamond award in 2024* then you qualify! Please comment or email to be added to our 2024 champs group. If you’re unsure if you qualify or not please just get in touch.
* If you entered our prelim champs in the summer then you don’t need to enter this one, if you couldn’t make prelim champs in the summer you’re welcome to enter this one.

We are pleased to announce that Rob from B-Hyve K9 will be taking over the running of Detection Dog Trials in the US!
He and his team have put so much into bringing the trials to the US and this felt very natural as they are on the ground to keep growing the trials there.
I still remain the founder of DDT and although Rob’s got some fantastic ideas that will be coming, the heart and values of DDT will remain the same.

What an incredible standard of searching today at the Novice Detection Dog Trial at Shepton Mallet Prison.
Two completely different search areas for Element 1 and 2.
Element 1 was a real area clearance, moving through 4 different rooms and a corridor, including the Notorious Killers room!
There was some exceptional team work, reading and trusting dogs.
Element 1 was won by Jo and Rufus with 89 points.
2nd place was Karen and Jinx with 88 points
3rd place was Liz and Gus with 86.5 points
4th place was Elissa and Dexter with 86 points

Element 2 was in B wing, clearing cells, rooms and the middle area. Some incredible team work once again and every dog, even little Pipkin the JRT finding the inaccessible hide in the plug hole of the sink 🎉.
Element 1 was won by Karen and Jinx with 90.5 points, and the commitment to the odour and indication whilst a group of people walked past half a metre away just pipped an absolutely outstanding search from Kate and Thistle who were 2nd with 90 points.
3rd place with an incredible search was Jo and Cuba with 89 points
4th place was Liz and Gus with 83.5 points.

The HIGH TRIAL was won by Karen and Jinx, and very well deserved. 🎉
