Hello all! I thought it was time for a formal introduction. My name is Hannah and I am the owner of Nocturnal Heart Axolotl Nursery. 👋

I have been an axolotl lover for several years now and just recently started Nocturnal Heart Axolotl Nursery a few months ago. It has been an amazing experience that I would not trade for the world. I have had the pleasure of talking to many of you personally, and I have to say you guys are some of the coolest and most awe inspiring people I have ever met.

Of course none of this would be possible without my amazing friends that covered for my axolotl care duties during weekend interview trips and late night study sessions as I worked my way through my last semester of college. I am happy to report that I have officially graduated. 🎉

With graduation comes some exciting changes. I will be moving into a new place and starting my new job very shortly. That being said, I am looking to reduce the amount of axolotls that are currently in my care. All axolotls on the site have been reduced to sell. If you all could spread the word to help me find all of my babies a good home, it would be much appreciated!

I will start raising axolotls again at a date to be determined when I get settled into my new job, so stay tuned.

Did you know you have a god in your fish tank?! No, really! Allow me to explain…

Axolotls played a huge role in ancient Aztec mythology. In fact, axolotls are named after the Aztec god, Xolotl. Xolotl was the god of fire and lightning. He was generally given negative attributes, such as being associated with sickness, deformities, and misfortune.

Legend has it that when the gods created the 5th sun, the sun that we experience today, sacrifices had to be made in order to make it move. The gods were the first ones to sacrifice themselves. All but one that is…Xolotl, once finished as acting as an executioner for the other gods, used his shapeshifting abilities to evade death. In the process, he took several forms, but ultimately landed on taking the shape of an aquatic salamander known as an axolotl.

So, yes, that derpy little adorable face is actually a rather mischievous ancient god.

This little one has two gills on its right side. On its left side, it has three gills, but the top two share the same stem and are forked from each other. Look at that absolutely adorable face!😍
