New years eve is almost here and you know what that means...fireworks!

Here are 5 tips on how to reduce your pup's firework anxiety.

1️⃣ Take your pup on a walk before the fireworks start. The hope here is to miss the fireworks and tire your pup out before they start. This is also a good time for a final potty break. You won't want your pup to have to go outside right as the fireworks start!
2️⃣ Practice getting your pup used to the sound by quietly playing firework sound effects (you can find old firework shows on YouTube.) This will help your pup get used to the sound.
3️⃣ Keep your pup in the house. This will help them feel safe. To take it even a step further, if your pup has a place in your house that they feel the safest (like a kennel), put them there while you're out enjoying the show.
4️⃣ Keep the tv on and/or have a fan going. The white noise will drown out some of the sounds.
5️⃣ Talk to your vet. There are many things that your vet might suggest like an anxiety vest, CBD supplements, or even a prescription to calm them down.

Bonus tip! Give your pup something to chew on such as a Kong stuffed with peanut butter and their favorite VeggyDog treats. Bonus points if you freeze the Kong. It will take your pup longer to eat through their treat.

Here are some tips for traveling with your pup!

Whether you are traveling by air or land...
✈️🚗 pack the essentials such as water, enough food for the trip, a travel mat, medications, a leash, a collar, and ID tags with your updated info.

If traveling by air...
✈️ ensure you have all the documentation you need for your preferred airline!
✈️ do not feed your pup 6-8 hours before boarding the plane so they don't get sick.

If traveling by land...
🚗 use a pet seatbelt or travel crate to keep your pup safe and restrained.
🚗 don't let your pup ride with their head out the window as something could fly into their eyes or ears costing you an impromptu vet visit.

Snow and ice have officially hit in many parts of the country, so we wanted to remind the VeggyDog Fam to be careful which ice melt they buy as some can be toxic to pups!

When buying ice melt, always remember to read the label and check that it is dog safe as some ice melt products can cause gastrointestinal problems and/or topical irritation that may result in an expensive vet visit.

Here are a few easily accessible options to look into if you live in a snowy part of the country.

1️⃣ Morton Safe-T-Pet Ice Melt
2️⃣ Safe Paw PetSafe Ice Melt for Dogs & Cats
3️⃣ Pestell Paw Thaw Pet Friendly Ice Melter

Note: even pet-safe ice melt can occasionally cause irritation to your pet's paws or tummy if ingested so make sure you wipe your pup's paws when they come in from outside and watch them to make sure that they don't try to lick the salt off the snow! Always remember to wash your pup's paws when you come home from a walk as you may have walked through an area with non-pet-safe ice melt. It's always best to be safe!

3️⃣ Have a unique skill such as photography? Volunteer with a local shelter or rescue to take headshots of the animals to put up on their website and help get them to get adopted!
