We lost our 6-year-old chicken today, and yes, her name was Karen. She earned it with that iconic hair and her bossy “HR manager” attitude around the coop. Always quick to supervise, complain, and keep everyone in line, she was truly one of a kind. We aren’t sure she ever laid an egg in her life but she always acted like she was the most valuable.

Karen’s been sick the last couple of weeks, but in true Karen, she fought hard, filed her grievances, and made sure everyone knew about it until the very end.

She may be gone, but the coop will forever hear her clucking “Can I speak to the manager?”

Fly high, Karen — the hens won’t be the same without you. ❤️
