His housemate jumped up in excitement and one of the paws landed on his face...and another pug loses an eye.

I've never kept track but I'd guess with my eye enucleations, 40-50% are pugs and the overwhelming majority are small dogs/brachycephalic breeds. Dogs that were selected for generations to hunt or have a specific job usually have deeper orbits so the eyes are better protected from injury.

Do you have pet insurance or an emergency fund ready? It's been a sad week before Christmas for many pets and terrible for veterinarians everywhere. I've had multiple owners put down their pets (4 in a row the other day), others say "I spent all my money on Christmas shopping" or get upset at me or the hospital because "why can't you help my dog for free?"...well why can't you return all the items you bought shopping, please tell me where you work so I can go to your job demanding free services?
