These are our permanent residents! You’ve already met, Scar, Skylar, Polar and Bolt. But we also have quite a few other residents that live here.
Firstly we have Rosie, she came in after being to her 5th home in 3 years (she was only 3!). She was absolutely terrified having been locked in a room at her last home and kept with other animals such as a dog and cats. She was left to settle and she soon came out her shell. She’s still absolutely terrified of other animals and runs away from anything. However she will scream for attention as she’s also jealous of them!
Next we have Bear, she came from an accidental litter we had before we even opened! She was one of 3, and the runt. We didn’t think she would make it and quickly became attached which is why she stayed. Over a year and a half on she’s still thriving. She’s also a classic example of a female Syrian as her tank is her 6th cage due to chewing out of them!
Thirdly we have Pumpkin, he came in after being unwanted as he was a very nervous boy. We quickly collected him as they threatened to put him to sleep as they couldn’t have him much longer. He’s since moved into a cluttered 120cmx60cm cage and is much happier. He’s not nervous and has never shown a stress behaviour since!
Next we have Churro and Waffle, they became permanent residents after we noticed they were very sick where they were living. We took them out of a cramped situation and got them the antibiotics they needed. Since then they enjoy popcorning and munching on all things veg! They still have their lives ahead of them due to being 20 weeks old when we collected them and we can’t wait to see what they do!
Next we have Zeus, Aphrodite and Hera. Zeus was the very first mouse here and quickly stole some hearts, we decided to keep him and let him teach us more about mouse care. After researching possible bonding options, we found he had a heart murmur meaning he couldn’t be neutered. After further research we found out about the beautiful African soft furs. We were then contacted by someone who no longer wanted these two baby girls and we happily accepted! After the girls were treated as they were portly on entry we got to bonding them. This was another learning experience from us and we absolutely feel in love with the girls. Since then they happily live in a Barney and thrive in it. All three love malt paste and cuddles, you’ll often seen them in hammocks cuddling and it’s shown us a beautiful and less invasive way to bond lone males!
Lastly we have Hazel! She came from a sad situation having lived in a pico XL with no enrichment or wheel most of her life. We’d been told that she’d been saved from being a toy to a cat so this was a better outcome for her. We were delighted to take her on, after an assessment we saw she was malnourished, had back leg degeneration and bald spots. Since being on a higher protein diet and having the opportunity to run around she has vastly improved. Her legs are now up to where they need to be, her fur has gotten thicker and she’s on weight! She’s so happy in her zoozone and enjoys foraging around in her soil.
We’d just like to thank people who donate and have been on this journey with us and followed all these guys lives! It has been a journey and we’re excited to see what comes in 2022!
